Numbers 8:14 Set Apart For God

“In this way you are to set the Levites apart from the other Israelites, and the Levites will be mine.” Numbers 8:14

God had set up a series of sacrifices and ceremonies to be done that would cleanse the Levites. This was to prepare them for the work He wanted them to do in the tabernacle. Once all the sacrifices were done, they were set apart from all the other Israelites. They were to belong to God and God alone. Their whole purpose was to serve God in the tabernacle. They were God’s priests for the people.

In the Old Testament it was people who had to do the work to set others apart for God. There was a variety of sacrifices offered that would cleanse a person. The person had to be cleansed from sin in order to approach God. Anyone who went into the tabernacle was approaching God.

Jesus became the sacrifice to cleanse people. His blood was shed in order to remove all the sin. The difference is that Jesus is not just coming to saving one line of people, but to save everyone. Any person who believes in what Jesus said and did, and repents of his sins will be saved. Every person who is saved is now a priest before God.

As a priest you have the ability to go before God. You have been cleansed and set apart. Not every person in the world will be set apart. You are bought by God and are now His.

What does this mean for you?

It means that you are God’s and God’s alone. You are here to do whatever God wants you to do. You are in service to God. You are to be different in the way you live and act. You are to no longer live like the rest of the world.

Think about the great honor this is. Many people think it is a great honor to serve some famous person. Here you are in service of the creator of the world. You are in service to the one who owns it all.

Are you set apart for God today?

Are you serving God today?

I pray today that God will reveal His plans for you; that you will be set apart for God; that you will live to serve God; and that God will guide and strengthen you by His Holy Spirit.
