“The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.” Exodus 15:2
As the Egyptians were coming towards the Israelites to re-capture them, the people were afraid. God had Moses stretch out his staff over the edge of the Red Sea. As he did so, God parted the waters of the Red Sea and created dry ground down through the middle of it. This allowed the people to cross over safely.
As they crossed, the Egyptian army chose to follow also. Once the army was in the middle and all the Israelites safely across, God put the water back in place. The entire Egyptian army was destroyed by God. The Israelites did not have to do anything. Afterwards they gave Him praise.
As you go through life, there are times of great difficulties. You see a wall ahead of you and the enemy behind you, and there seems to be no way out. Suddenly the wall is removed and you move on to safety.
Many people at this point suddenly thank their “lucky stars” for what happened. They got a lucky break in the situation. Yet, luck had nothing to do with it. It is the hand of God.
Others may point that there were some good friends who helped them just in time. Although the friends did the work, it was only done by God’s work. They would not have done anything if God had not been in the center working.
In yourself you cannot do very much. In reality the enemy, the devil, is stronger than you are. Alone you have no authority against the devil. He can and will overpower you.
It is only in Jesus that you have any authority or strength. It is God who brings about salvation. Just as your salvation of your soul is completely God’s doing, so it is with being saved in a bad situation in life.
When something goes right for you suddenly, while in a bad situation, remember that it is God who made it happen. Give Him the praise for the salvation you received. He is your strength and defense in this fallen world.
Who or what will you give praise to for the good things that happen?
I pray today that you will see God’s hand at work in your life; that you will know that God is taking care of you; that you will rely on God’s power and not your own; and that you will give God praise for all the good things in your life.
