Revelation 3:1 Walking Dead

“To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.” Revelation 3:1

The church of Sardis had a great reputation of being alive. This church was probably one that had some great exciting worship services and great speakers preaching God’s Word. Yet, Jesus is saying that they are in reality a dead church.

Times have not really changed much. There are churches today that appear to be really alive and on the move. The worship services seem to be exciting and will pump you up for God. The sermons seem to be great and seem to build you up. Yet, the church is dead.

These churches can seem to be alive, but be dead, because everything done is just on the surface. All of the “great” worship is just to have a good time at church, not really to worship God. The sermons are to help you feel good about yourself, not to tell you what God is saying right now.

This does not happen just as a church as a whole, but also in individual lives. There are people who appear to be on fire for God, yet, it is only when around other believers as a show. In private or around non-believers, they live like the world. They forget about God.

It is people like this that are the walking dead. They appear to be alive, but really have no relationship with God, thus are dead. They are dead spiritually.

If you are alive in Christ, you will worship from the heart. You will be willing to hear the hard messages of God also. You will be willing to go out and spread the gospel message everywhere you go, to everyone you can. You will live your life like Jesus did.

Are you truly alive?

Or are you just going through the motions today?

I pray today that God will touch your heart today; that you will truly live alive for God; that you will do things for God from your heart, not just to do them; and that you will do what God wants you to do with joy and excitement of doing things for God.
