1 Corinthians 11:11 Mutual Dependence

“Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 1 Corinthians 11:11

After pointing out that man has authority over woman, Paul quickly points out that neither man nor woman is independent of the other. Man needs woman, just as much as woman needs man. Over both of them is God, the ultimate authority.

In many parts of the world, the independence of woman is praised. America is highly praised for the independence of women and what they can accomplish. Since the early 1970’s women have tried more and more to prove that they can work independent of men. They try to show that anything a man can do in the workplace or at play, they can do. In the current days this has been taken even further with marriage and raising children.

However, as a believer in the Lord Jesus, this type of thinking should not occur. Yes, woman came from man, but a man is born from a woman. When God created Adam, He decided that Adam would need someone to help him, that is why He created Even, to be a help-mate.

Men and women need to work together, building each other up. In Jesus there is no competition. All have equally sinned against God. All are saved only by faith in Jesus by the grace of God. It does not matter if you are a man or a woman.

Previously it has been shown that you should work at serving others. You are to put other people first. This includes men and women. Each should be putting the other first. Build each other up.

It does not matter if you are married or are still single. Each person needs the other person in some way or the other. Do not be like the world and try to be the boss of another. Work at being a servant to others, both men and women, as Jesus was and is.

Point each other to Jesus and strive to be more like Jesus every day. Seek God on how you need to be dependent on the other. You need each other to fulfill God’s plan for your life.

I pray today that God will reveal to you ways to serve others; that you will see how you are dependent on others; that God will give you strength to not be the boss of others; and that you with all men and women will grow in the Lord Jesus together.
