“Oh, the depths of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” Romans 11:33
It was just seen in the previous verses how God used the disobedience of the Jews to bring salvation to the Gentiles, and the same with the Gentiles to save the Jews. Now Paul quotes Isaiah 40:13, in talking about how great the wisdom and knowledge of God is. He says it has great depths.
When something has great depth, it means that there is a lot to it. One can search for a long time to get to the bottom of it. Think of the ocean that has great depth. Men have searched the ocean for many years and have yet to discover everything about it. They have a difficult time getting to the bottom of the ocean. In the same way men can search God’s wisdom and knowledge and it seems to go on forever.
People are always trying to come up with a way to get into heaven the is good, equal, and fair to everyone. Yet, every man-made religion falls short somewhere. It has spots in it that cannot be equal to everyone. Every one requires work on the part of the person, which not every person can do equally well.
With the death and resurrection of Jesus, there is only one way to get into heaven. The one way is through faith in the grace and mercy of Jesus in His death and resurrection. This is the work of the amazing, profound wisdom of God.
Outside of the salvation, think about the intricacies of this world and the universe. God made it all and it all works great together. Such great wisdom!
