Acts 20:24 The Main Goal

“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” Acts 20:24

Paul had been traveling all around to Gentile cities preaching the gospel message. He now feels led to go back to Jerusalem. He was run out of there by the Jews and so would not know what would happen when he goes there. He does know that everywhere he went he had to face persecution and prison a lot. He now says that, to himself, his life is worthless. His whole goal in life is to do what Jesus wants him to do–to preach the gospel message.

There are many books on the shelves on how to succeed in just about anything you want to succeed in. Thousands of books are written on how to succeed in making money. Everyone has the “key” to success. Speakers travel all around the country and world talking about how to be successful.

The most common thread in all of the ways how to succeed is to have a goal. You are to set your mind on a goal and how to achieve it. Then you are to go for it with everything in you.

The world looks at success in measuring what you have or don’t have as to whether you are successful or not.

Paul look at success as completing the task Jesus gave him to do. Jesus had the view of success in completing the work the Father gave Him to do.

Jesus has a plan for you. He has a work for you to do. The bottom line of that plan for you is to be like Jesus and to tell everyone you can about Jesus.

The plans Jesus has for you are for eternal value. The plans the world has for you to succeed are only temporary, in this life alone.

Where is your focus and aim today? Are you striving to be more like Jesus? Are you working hard at telling others about Jesus? Or are you working hard to get rich and have a great retirement plan set up? What is your goal today?

I pray today that Jesus will impress up your heart His goals for your life; that you will know the plans Jesus has for you; that you will aim to do the work Jesus has for you to do; that you will be more like Jesus everyday; and that Jesus will draw many to Himself through you.
