James 1:5 Ask for Wisdom

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

Every person has knowledge about many things. Many people have a lot of knowledge about something. Few people have a lot of knowledge and wisdom about anything. Think about the person who just finished reading a book on how to drive a car, no one would want him to go out and start driving the car alone. Why is that? It is because he does not have the experience or wisdom on how to drive that car. There is a difference in knowing to push the brake pedal to stop and knowing how hard to push the brake pedal to safely stop. This difference is the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Wisdom is knowing how to correctly use the knowledge you have. Many people have a lot of knowledge with very little wisdom in how to use it correctly.

In this passage you are told that if you lack wisdom ask God for it. God is above all, sees all and knows all. He has perfect wisdom. God knows how to best do anything that needs to be done. Man in his finite mind only knows a little. No person would have on his own came up with the idea of providing salvation for the enemy by killing His own son, but God did. In His perfect wisdom He set up the plan for salvation from the beginning. God not only has perfect wisdom, but He is also willing to share it generously with you.

Often people feel that they cannot have the wisdom of God because of something in their past or that they have not had proper training. Training provides knowledge, but cannot always provide wisdom. Remember God has wiped away the sins of your past from His memory and He uses the foolish things to confound the wise. God wants everyone to have the same perfect wisdom He has. Having this perfect wisdom allows you to work and speak in perfect harmony with God’s will.

Today if you need direction in some area in your life ask God. He will give you the wisdom to make the correct decision. Trust God in providing the correct wisdom and act on it accordingly. Do not doubt God and His wisdom. Do not try to do things in your own wisdom or the wisdom of man, seek God’s wisdom.

I pray that today God will give you all the wisdom you need; that you will accept the wisdom of God; that you will not doubt God’s wisdom; that God will get the glory for the choices you make based on His wisdom and direction; and that God will use you in a mighty way to build His kingdom.
