“This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Hebrews 8:10
Here the author quotes Jeremiah 31:31, in how God talked about making a new covenant with the people. The old covenant, which was the Old Testament Law, could only bring about death. This was because if you broke any one of the laws it had the punishment of death. No one could perfectly follow all of the Law of God. God stated in the Old Testament that there would come a time when He would make the new covenant. This time had come.
In Jesus, God now writes His Laws on the hearts of the people. God’s Spirit touches every man in the world today. The Holy Spirit reveals to every man what is right and wrong. Those who follow God can hear the Holy Spirit in his life. Every person who is truly trying to follow God will know in his heart what God wants him to do or not to do. If a person states that he does not know what God desires, then either he is not listening, or has sin in his life that he refuses to repent of.
Again God talks about wanting to be our God, and for us to be His people. God wants to be with us in a loving relationship. He is doing everything He can to make that relationship work. Each one of us need to be willing to make that relationship work also. We need to keep our ears open to what God is telling us and be willing to obey what He is telling us.
I pray that today God will open your ears and heart to hear what He is telling you; that God will reveal to you His laws; that you will make God your God; and that your relationship with God will grow closer and stronger every day.
