“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.” Hebrews 3:1
As you go through the day where are your thoughts? Often as you are driving down the road heading home from work you may be thinking about what to eat that night; then you start to think about what you have to do the next day; then you start to think about what happened at work; then you start to think about what happened last week. Your mind continues to wander with all kinds of thoughts. Most often our minds wander in fear of how to deal with something, such as paying a bill, or a sick relative, or car repairs. Other times the mind will wander into thoughts and fantasies of a sinful nature.
The author here tells us where our thoughts should be–focused on Jesus Christ. What does this mean? We should be thinking about: what Jesus had done for us; what Jesus taught and did; what Jesus is currently doing for us; what Jesus will do for us; and how great Jesus is. All these thoughts will do two things: 1) keep us from sinning 2) give you something to praise God for.
If your eyes are focused on Jesus you will not get distracted by anything going on around you; you will not fall into temptation to sin; and you will not get off the path God has set before you. Jesus will not guide you wrong. He will only lead you on the path that will lead you to God.
Today I pray that God will strengthen you to be able to fix your eyes upon Jesus alone; that you will be able to take every thought captive for God and God alone; that you will not be distracted by anything in this world.
