Hebrews 2:18 Help in Temptation

“Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” Hebrews 2:18

When Jesus went through the time of temptation in the desert He had gone for 40 days without food or water. During this time it was a real struggle and time of suffering. He knows what pain is more than you or I could ever know or understand. He knows about temptation more than we could ever know and yet never gave into it. Think how hard it must have been for Him to be offered the entire world for free. This was what He came to the world for. Yet He turned it down because He knew He could not get it that way. Because of this, Jesus knows the best way to help you get out of a temptation to sin.

God always makes a way to get away from temptation. Throughout the Bible we are told to flee temptations and evil. The problem many of us have is that we like that temptation or sin. We do not want to give it up. If we have the heart of God we will despise all sin in our lives, we will flee all temptation.

Look to Jesus and see how He was able to overcome temptation. Follow in His steps. The primary way He was able to overcome temptation was looking to the Word of God for strength. He quoted the Words of God. God’s Word is alive and has power for you…if you are willing to use it. If you are living your life for God, His Words are there for you. They are there to build you up, not tear you down. They are there for you to escape temptations to sin.

I pray that today God will open your eyes to how to avoid temptation and how to get away when temptations arise; that God will give you the strength to flee temptations; that God will give you victory just as Jesus had done.

  1. I think that many people in this day and age struggle with temptations even i do. I am 15 years old i have seen both pros and cons of this world. I have learned that if you can answer these questions you will know exactly when Satan plans to attack you. Where are you when you are tempted? What are you being tempted to do? Are you alone? Almost every time we are alone we sin in secret thinking that we will never be put to shame. You feel in your spirit what is right and wrong. You are convicted and Satan silences you by telling you that know one can ever know. To flee temptation you must first relies you cannot do it on your own. You need the help of our savior. You must confess your sins not only to God but to someone you trust. Have that person hold you accountable you think they wont love you any more you may just be surprised. Many times people get so far away from that sin that they think it will never come back. And they have a little celebration between you and Jesus. Then suddenly your back into sin. And you feel like you are worthless the scum of the earth but no. Every time i slip up Jesus reminds me that he already knew before he went on the cross that i would sin. So look strait ahead its not hopeless. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.
