“You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” Hebrews 1:9
Here the author talks about Jesus. That Jesus loved righteousness. What is righteousness? It is being right with God. In the Old Testament this meant obeying all of God’s rules and doing all the sacrifices.
These rules were never done away with, but the sacrifices were changed. Instead of sacrificing animals God had sacrificed His Son Jesus for our sins. All we have to do is accept Jesus and repent of our sins and follow Him.
When we follow Jesu with everything that is in us we are turning away from sin and wickedness and being right with God. In Jesus we will have our righteousness. Then God will anoint you with the oil of joy. You will have a joy in your heart and life that the world cannot understand.
Today are you turning from sin? Are you doing what God wants you to do? Are you being right with God? Or are you doing your own thing?
I pray that today each person will give their lives and wills over to God and be right with God; that every one will turn from wickedness. Let God fill you with the oil of joy today.
