Ezekiel 33:7 Be The Watchman

Two guards watching

Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. Ezekiel 33:7

The watchman is the person who stands out ahead, closer to the enemy territory, to give warning of anyone who is coming. He is a type of a guard for those being guarded. They are to watch for any activity that is occurring that may have an effect upon those being guarded.

In order to be a good watchman, the person must stay alert and be watching. Then he must be quick about warning what is going to happen, giving the people a chance to react to the situation.

God calls Ezekiel a watchman and charges him to speak whatever God tells him to say. Ezekiel is to give the people a warning.

Being a watchman for God is not some light and easy task. It takes effort to listen to what God is saying. It is having a discerning heart to know what is really going on. It also takes strength and bravery to speak out when danger is on the way.

In the spiritual realm, the danger is often not seen as a physical danger. It is often a danger of the heart and soul. The greatest event to come is when Jesus returns to judge the world and the heart and soul of every person.

Every believer has been charged to be a watchman, a witness, for God. They must warn the people of the coming judgement and the path to death that they are on.

The world cannot see the danger that they are in, because they do not have discerning eyes or ears. They cannot hear the word of God. It is the responsibility of the believer to warn them and let them know.

As a believer you know what is going to happen some day. You can see how the world is living in sin and headed down a path to destruction. You can also hear God’s word to the world today.

It is your responsibility to warn the people. Jesus has charged you to be His witness to all of the world. It is not your responsibility as to how the world reacts to God’s word, but you must share it with them.

Do not be afraid to speak God’s word. Allow God to reveal to you what must be said and to whom it must be said. Be God’s watchman today.

I pray today that you will know God’s word in your heart; that God will reveal to you what is to come; that you will warn the people of what God is going to do; and that you will be God’s witness to all people.

Isaiah 56:11 Seeking Self Gain

Policeman watching

They are dogs with mighty appetites; they never have enough. They are shepherds who lack understanding; they all turn to their own way, they seek their own gain. Isaiah 56:11

Gain of something more is what people usually desire. They desire greater wealth, larger bank accounts, higher position, more things, and the list goes on. Nearly all of these things and much more are desired for self.

People look to their own ways to get as much as possible. There can never be enough of anything as long as there is more out there to be had.

This type of greed is found in little children all the way up to senior adults. It is promoted in tv shows, movies, advertisements and music. The desire for more is everywhere.

Isaiah calls out the watchmen of Israel for being greedy with a great appetite for more. Everything that they did was out of selfish gain.

Sadly this selfish desires is found even inside the church. There are many who seek their own ways to gain what they want for themselves, rather than seeking out the good for others. The seek position, title, power, or recognition in the ministries that they do, rather than just seeking God’s will and desire.

Jesus did not act in this way. He left heaven and His God-head to live as a man on this earth. He not only left all of that behind, He also laid down His life in a painful way to bring salvation to everyone. The focus of Jesus was not selfish but for the good of others.

Every believer is to first focus on what God wants. This puts self on the back burner and puts God first. Then as one is seeking God’s will, he will also put others before Himself. Believers are to be focused on building God’s kingdom, not their own kingdom.

As you go through your day, what is your focus on? God’s top two focuses are on you loving Him and building His kingdom.

These two things are not about self, but about God and others. You are a watchman, just as the Israelites were. You have a job to watch out for the coming of the Lord’s return. As you do this, you need to warn others about His soon coming.

Being a witness for Jesus does not allow you to be selfish or to seek your own gain. It is only about building others up. Instead of seeking your own way, seek God’s today.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will have a vision of God’s mission for you to reach the lost; that you will seek to build God’s kingdom; and that you will be a watchman warning of the return of Jesus.

Ezekiel 3:17 Be A Watchman

Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. Ezekiel 3:17

God was making Ezekiel a watchman to the people of Israel. God would show Ezekiel what was to happen in the future, what would happen if they changed and followed Him, and what would happen if they rejected Him. Ezekiel was to be the person that would be on the lookout for what was to happen and let the people know about it. Ezekiel was told that some people would listen and some would not, but he had to speak to them either way. Ezekiel would also be responsible for the lives of the people if he did not tell them what God was saying.

People read horoscopes all the time trying to find out what is in their future. Predictions are made all the time about what is going to happen next. Some things happen, while many things do not.

God has made statements about what is going to happen in the future. The individual choices of each person will have an effect on what will happen in their future. Most people have not been told what God has said about their future. They do not know that if they continue to live in sin and not follow Jesus, there is only death and punishment ahead. They do not know that if they turn from sin and follow Jesus, that there is eternal life ahead.

You have learned what God has for you, if you are a follower of Jesus. Knowing that, you also know what is ahead for every other person. Every person on this earth has two paths set before them. One is rejecting Jesus and dying. The other is accepting Jesus and living.

You have the responsibility to go out and tell people what is going to happen. You are the watchman who sees what is coming up and can warn them. If you do not warn people about the coming destruction, it will also be on your head for their death. If you warn them, then it is only upon their head.

Jesus said that you are to be His witness in all of this world. Being a witness is being the watchman that Ezekiel was. Are you a watchman today?

I pray today that you will be God’s watchman to the people; that you will speak to everyone about Jesus; that many will know Jesus because of you; and that God will show you what is coming.
