2 Corinthians 8:2 Rich Generosity

In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 2 Corinthians 8:2

Giving is something that some people like to do, but most are not great at doing it. The type of giving most people do, is giving when they have an abundance or giving what they no longer need.

During spring cleaning, it is common to see many people suddenly donate many things to various organizations. Most of what is donated are things that they no longer want. Others will give a little more, but only to look good.

Paul commended the Macedonian church because of their extreme giving. At a time that they were under severe persecution and extreme poverty, they generously gave to those in need.

Giving generously is something that many people struggle with, because they are trying to survive with what little that they have. There is a feeling that if they give up what little they have to someone else, they will fall short of their own needs.

Believers who act in this way have forgotten what Jesus gave to them. Jesus left all of the riches of heaven to live here on the earth. Then in His poverty, He gave His life for each and every person to have eternal life.

God has already provided for the greatest need that a person could ever possibly have, to be forgiven and given life. Since God has already given that much, He will be willing to give anything else that is needed.

The believer must be willing to trust God to meet all of his needs as he works to give generously in order to meet the needs of others. As he finds joy in rich generosity, God will pour back into him as needed.

Most likely you know someone who is in need of something that you could provide for. Instead of hoarding what you have to survive on it, be willing to give it away with a generous, loving heart.

As you provide for the needs of others, God will in turn touch the hearts of others to provide abundantly for your needs. Give in the same way that Jesus gave to you. Be willing to give anything and everything to those in need with great joy so that God will be able to return that blessing to you in your time of need.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has already given you; that you will find joy in giving as God has given you; and that God will open your eyes to the needs of others that you can meet.

Acts 24:14 Are You Willing To Admit To Worshipping God?

However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets. Acts 24:14

Admission of doing something is often not done by many people, because it often means that they are doing something wrong. As a whole, most people do not being known as going against the flow of common society.

Instead of admitting publicly what they do, people hide it and skirt around admission. They don’t want to be seen as a crazy or bad person.

Paul was being charged in court for doing wrong. After saying he is innocent of the charges, he admits that he is a follower of the Way (that the court believed was bad) and a believer in the Law and the Prophets.

Many people are very quiet about their belief in Jesus. They know that a lot of other people are against it, or think that they are against it, so they do not want to say anything about Jesus. They will not deny Christ, but neither will they be His witness. They fear repercussions or whiplash for their belief, or it is that they do not truly follow Jesus.

True believers are not afraid to make bold, public statements that they are following Jesus. Their lives are also being lived in a way that shows that if they made that statement, it would be able to be proven as true. There is evidence that they live for God.

Admitting that one follows Jesus will often open doors to persecution and ridicule. However, at the same time, it can open other doors for others to choose to believe in and follow Jesus.

If you are a believer in Jesus, are you willing to share that information with the world?

Do not live your life as a believer in secret, but let the world know. Do not deny Jesus by a sin of omission, by being quiet when you can speak. Shine the light that has been given to you, so that everyone has a chance to know Jesus.

Trust God when you make those statements that He will take care of you, should you have to go through any persecution.

What are you willing to admit to for the world to see?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will not be ashamed to tell the world about Jesus; that there will be evidence of you believing in Jesus; and that you will trust God when any persecution comes to your life.

Philippians 1:19 Works Out For Deliverance

for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. Philippians 1:19

Bad things happen to people on a regular basis. When it occurs, people often only see the bad in it and cannot see anything good happening. Millions every year give up any hope of surviving the bad situation and end their lives.

Many people put all of their hope in situations that they can control, then get crushed when things outside of their control occur.

Paul had been in prison at the time of his writing this letter to the Philippians. the church was worried and praying for him. Paul believed that his being in prison would turn out for his deliverance.

When a person is going through a difficult time, it can be very difficult to continue to have hope. All that is seen is the trial set before them, with no apparent window of end or release in sight. Giving up appears to be the only option.

Believers will sometimes fall into the same mindset, forgetting who God is and how big He is. Looking through their own eyes, they only see as the world sees, nothing but the problem.

However, believers can have a hope and trust in God that goes beyond any logic or circumstances set before them. The God, who created the heavens and the earth, is still in control. With prayer and trust in Him, He can turn around the worst situation in a person’s life and deliver the person from the trial. This is done for His glory and honor.

God never allows a person to stay permanently in a bad trial. As a last option (in man’s eyes) God takes the person home to heaven. Otherwise, God always delivers the believer from the trial.

You may have some bad situation in your life. Do not give up or give in to it and the way of the world’s thinking. Pray to God and tell Him about it. As you are going through this trial, give God praise and put all of your hope and trust in Him.

At the right time, God will deliver you from the fiery trial you may be going through. Know that God will use what you are going through to deliver you and spread the gospel message to a fallen world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will trust God in every situation; that you will pray to God about every situation; that you will see God’s hand of deliverance in your life; and that you will give God praise in and through every trial in your life.
