Deuteronomy 7:26 Keep The Trash Out

Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Regard it as vile and utterly detest it, for it is set apart for destruction. Deuteronomy 7:26

Everyday people all over the world accumulate trash that needs to be tossed out. Most people gather it together and put it in the trashcan to be removed and hauled to a dump. Very few people like to have trash sitting around in their house.

The few people that don’t mind trash all over their house are rejected or looked down upon by most others.

God told the Israelites that they were not to bring anything that was detestable into their house. If they did, they would be set apart for destruction. It was to be rejected and set apart to be destroyed.

While most believers are unwilling to have physical trash in their house, many are willing to bring trash into their homes and lives on a daily basis. The trash that they bring in is the sinful things they allow to enter their home.

Movies are watched by many believers that contain sexual scenes, pornography, promotion of sin as good, rejection of God, filthy words, senseless murder, witchcraft, and much more. In same way music is listened to that contains filthy words, rejection of God, promotion of sinful activities, sexual promiscuity, and much more.

Often believers say that it is just a little thing, but God sees sin as utterly detestable and needs to be destroyed at all costs.

True believers that want to honor God with their lives, will strive to not bring sin into their lives. They will flee sin and run to God. They will find contentment in the holy things of God, rather than the sinful things of this fallen world.

Take an honest inventory of what you allow in your home and life. Whether it is just a little thing or something big, all sin is extremely horrible and worthy only of death and destruction.

Satan and the world desire to cause you to step into sin. They want you to bring some of their sin into your life to cause you to slip away from God.

Rather than be set apart for destruction, reject the sin of this world and run to God and grab onto the things of God. Set your life and home to be holy unto God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal sinful things that are in your life; that God will give you strength to reject all sin in your life; and that you will live holy and righteous before God.

Numbers 35:34 Don’t Defile The Land

Do not defile the land where you live and where I dwell, for I, the Lord, dwell among the Israelites. Numbers 35:34

Environmentalists are very quick to desire to protect the land from any physical pollution or destruction. Some will go to extreme lengths to protect the land. Due to their work, some areas have been cleaned up and protected very well.

The focus of these environmentalists is that the land is where people and live and it needs to be kept in good health to provide for and protect the people and animals.

God told the people to not defile the land, specifically with bloodshed of murder, because He dwells there.

While taking care of the physical land is helpful, it is only a temporary help. The entire earth will be burned up and destroyed some day after Jesus returns.

There is another ‘land’ that is even more important to not defile and that is the body and soul of a person. Once a person chooses to repent of his sins, believe in Jesus and is saved, God now dwells in him. He has now become a land where God lives.

God, holy, pure and perfect, cannot dwell in a place that is defiled and dirty with sin. Too often many believers allow the sinful things of the world to defile their lives. Sin is allowed into their hearts and minds through many different methods, bringing filth into God’s dwelling place.

In the passage here, the defilement is about murder. Many believers allow murder in their hearts by hating and cursing others.

Believers are to flee all sin and all appearances of sin. They are to seek to live pure and holy, righteous lives before God and man because they are now the temple of God–the land where God dwells in.

As a believer, you are now the dwelling place of God. You have choices each day as to what you will allow into your life.

Do not allow yourself to be polluted by the sinful ways of this fallen world, since Jesus has removed all the filth of sin in your life. Do not go back into sin and defile God’s dwelling place. The temporary pleasures of sin will only bring about death.

Live the abundant life Jesus has purchased for you by His shedding of His blood upon the cross by living pure and holy before God and man.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow Jesus to purify you from all sin in your life; that God will strengthen you to flee all sin and anything that defiles your life; and that God will be pleased to live in you.

Leviticus 15:31 Stay Away From Filth

You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place, which is among them. Leviticus 15:31

Keeping physically clean is the desire of most people. Many will avoid getting dirty, if at all possible, but when they do get dirty, they will quickly clean up afterwards.

While remaining physically clean on the outside, many will get themselves filthy dirty on the inside. This can happen with eating junk food that harms their body or with playing with sin or sinful things.

God told Moses that he was to keep the Israelites separate from anything that would make them unclean. This was to keep them from defiling the tabernacle and being killed.

Keeping clean on the outside is common among most people, both believers and non-believers. Everyone understands the need to be clean.

The majority of the world does not look at being clean on the inside as a priority. Taking care of the inside, to the world, is to please one’s self and be happy in the moment. The world does not realize that living in sin may bring a temporary pleasure, but is also bringing about an eternal death.

Along with the world, there are some in the church who claim to believe in Jesus, but defile themselves with the filth of sin of the world. Lies and gossip is spoken, porn and immoral sex are used, sinful filth is watched and listened to, drunkenness occurs regularly, and anything else the world does that is sinful.

The true believer will flee all sin and appearances of sin to remain true and holy unto God. Because of what Jesus had done for him, the believer will not want to get himself defiled with sin, but remain pure and holy, keeping himself separate from the sin of the world.

Every day you probably strive to avoid getting filthy dirty on the outside. You strive to keep yourself clean and presentable to people.

Just as you are keeping yourself physically clean, you must also keep spiritually clean on the inside. Repent of all sin and God will forgive you and make you clean. Then avoid being around sin and partaking in it.

Mistakes will occur and you will sin, but do not make it a part of your lifestyle. Be separate from the world and be holy as God is holy.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will repent of all sins to be forgiven by God; that you will be separate from the sin of the world; and that God will guide you in being holy as he is holy.

Cleansing Fire

IMG_1085

Living out in the country on six acres of land has a lot of brush, branches and debris. Over time it can clutter the land and create an eyesore to be seen. Along with that, it also creates a spot for unwanted critters, such as snakes and opossums, to hide in.

Along with just regular branches that fall, and the brush that dies and we move into the burn pile, we also had tree full size oak trees that had fallen that needed to be burned up. The trees had fallen on our house about a month ago. You can read about that in my post: God’s Protection And Favor.

In the past we have attempted to sell or even give away the oak wood for fireplaces, if someone wanted to come and cut it up and haul it. We never had anyone take us up on it. Probably because we live in central Texas where it is always hot year round (at least hot to a northerner from Wisconsin). So we learned to just move it into a burn pile and burn it.

I had to do it soon before the burn bans start taking effect in this area. Usually about mid-July is when the burn bans start, unless we are in an exceptionally dry year or very wet year. This year has been neither very wet or dry.

The burn that you see in the picture above is just one of two large piles of wood and brush. It also includes some old chairs that were broken beyond repair and not saleable. I cleared some area around both piles of wood to keep the fire from getting out of control. The brush and weeds were cut back to keep it from spreading where it was not desired. I also kept a water hose on and ready near the fire. Every so often I would spray water around the base of the fire to keep the grass from catching on fire and spreading.

As I was burning this pile I was thinking about how burning in that spot is great for the ground around it. For one it removes all of the weeds. It also puts a lot of nutrients back into the ground.

In past years I have seen where a large area of forest had been burned to the ground. Years later, usually ten or more, one will see the ground where the fire had been growing lush and green with a lot of vegetation. I have known a few people, much older than I am, that used to burn their yards every other year for that same reason. It would clean out the unwanted weeds and put much needed nutrients into the ground. The grass always grew much more green than anyone else in the area.

While thinking about these things, God pointed to me that there are fires in our lives at times to do the very same thing. God looks at our lives and sees some unwanted weeds growing in our personal lives. These are weeds of deception, lies, impure thoughts, cheating, jealousy, pride, anger, and the list goes on. They do not belong in the life of a believer.

Situations come up in our lives that are painful and hurt a lot. They may feel like fire burning around you. Although there may be a million different reasons why God is allowing that fire in your life, one of them may be to clean out garbage in your life.

When there is a large fire that is burning, people look to someone else for help and strength to stop it. A fire in your life may be the thing needed to push you back towards God. It may help you focus back on what is really important in your life and get rid of the rest. Or at least not put so much time in the rest.

As you focus back on God and get back into His word and times of prayer, it will give you the needed nutrients to really live a full life after the fire dies out. It will strengthen you for greater works for God.

Going through a fire will also give you a testimony of God’s work in your life and His provision through the tough times. It can light a fire of testimony to be a witness to those in the world.

Just as with the fire that I burned on my property was controlled to keep it from becoming a wild fire, the fires in your life are controlled by God. Satan cannot give you anything more than God allows. There is nothing that God will allow in your life that, with His help and strength, you cannot overcome.

During the times that you are going through the fire, ask God to reveal to you how you can grow closer to Him and how you can use that fire as a witness to others. Do not allow the fire to force you to get out of control and remove God from the picture.

Never forget that God works all things for the good of those who love Him. That fire in your life can be a good thing. It can remove unwanted stuff and get your focus back on what is really important–God.
