Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
Everybody loves freedom no matter what part of the world they come from or their position in life. Being able to do what one wants, when he wants, and how he wants is the dream of many people.
People will fight hard to have and keep their freedom. Yet, many are not free, including those who believe they are free. They are bond by someone else, or by a set of rules that hold them back and very often themselves.
As Paul talk about the differences of the old and new covenants, he tells the people that the Lord is the Spirit and that where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.
The old covenant of the Old Testament, was a list of regulations that if a person did not do them, he was to die. There was no freedom to really live, because no one could keep all of the commands of God on his own, thus was sentenced to die. He was bound up on death row.
Once Jesus had died and rose from the dead, He broke the power of the law over a person. He was able to forgive the sins and allow the person to really live life. The new believer is set free from sin.
Some will take this freedom to live as they want, going back into the sin that they were set free from.
The Spirit of the Lord does not set a person free to live in sin, but to be able to live for God. His freedom is to be used to love God with all of his heart, soul, mind and strength and to love his neighbor also.
You have been set free by the Spirit of the Lord when you chose to follow Jesus. Do not allow this new found freedom to find ways to sin or please self, but use it to find ways to love God and others more and more.
Use your freedom to live for God and please God with your entire life. Use your freedom to spread the great gospel news that every person needs to hear across the entire earth.
God has give you this freedom, do not abuse it or misuse it, but use it to His glory.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the Lord’s Spirit inside of you and leading you; that you will use the freedom God gives you to glorify Him; and that you will use His freedom to obey God and serve God.
