Hebrews 3:12 How Is Your Heart?

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. Hebrews 3:12

All over the world some people are willing to put their hearts into something that they believe in. It is what gives the athlete the ability to win the gold medal. He is focused on one thing and keeps at it, never allowing his heart to move to something else.

Others, however, do not stay as focused. There is constant change as to what they are focused on, constantly turning away from something to go to something else.

The author warns the people to make sure that none of them have a sinful heart that turns away from God.

The church is filled with many people who, at some point, chose to believe in Jesus and follow God. At the same time, there are many of those people who have also chosen to step into sin and allow their heart to be turned away from God. Some continue in the church and others have left the church completely.

Leaving God does not always happen quickly. It is often a slow change over time. One decides to start dabbling with some sinful activity, thinking it is fun and acceptable. Later he goes into more and deeper sins, pulling his heart further from God, until at last he walks completely away from God.

Staying on path with God, requires that one keeps his heart focused upon God. He does not allow the distractions and sins of this world to pull him off course, but stays in the center of God’s world, drawing closer and closer to God everyday.

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. One will only continue to believe as long as he stays in God’s word and obeys it.

Take a look at your life, if you have chosen to be a believer at some point. Is your life still focused upon God? Or have you allowed sin to creep in and take over, pulling you away from God.

Make time daily, even multiple times daily, to refocus upon God and His word. Do not allow sin and the pleasures of this world to rule your life and turn your heart away from God.

Keep running the race in faith that God has called you to run and don’t give in.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will keep your heart focused on God and His word; that God will strengthen you to reject all sin in your life; and that your faith in God will grow stronger each day.

1 Thessalonians 4:7 How To Really Live Life

For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 1 Thessalonians 4:7

All around the world there are many different views on how one should live his life. Each culture has a slightly different norm as to what is expected of a person in living life. Some are extremely focused on education, while others are on careers, and yet others are on family.

The one common theme throughout the world is that one lives to please self without being too separated from everyone else. If it pleases self, then it must be acceptable.

After talking about living like Jesus, Paul tells the people that God did not call them to live an impure, but a holy life.

Living a holy life is something that is different, it is being separated from the world unto God. Very few people like to be separated or different from others. Everyone wants to fit in with those around them.

In reality, the world does not have any set standards of how to live life other than to please one’s own self in whatever way that means or is needed. With that type of mindset, there is no true moral standard.

Sin does not exist according to the world, thus any action is acceptable, causing the world to live an impure, sinful lifestyle in anyway possible. Nothing is off limits.

The believer is to live to a different standard, by God’s holy standard, a pure and sinless life that pleases God. Living in this way is living on a different path than the world. It is choosing to not sin or follow the ways of this world. It is going against the flow of the world around him.

Jesus lived the expected standard, setting the example of how to live life and He gave the Holy Spirit to strengthen and guide a believer to live that same way of holy living.

As a believer, you are called to be separate from the world and its ways of living. Jesus has forgiven you of past sins, so do not go back to those sins or ways of living.

Come out from among the world and live a life that is separate and holy unto God. Choose daily, even moment by moment, to reject a sinful lifestyle and be holy as God is holy.

He has given you everything you need to live the holy life, now live it.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the standard God has called you to live; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in living a holy life; and that God will strengthen you to turn from all sinful ways of living.

Ephesians 2:1-2 Originally The Walking Dead

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. Ephesians 2:1-2

The world loves to watch movies about the living dead, zombies, without realizing that they are living just like the zombies. Most people in the world are living in a sinful way thinking that they are really living life, when in reality they are dead.

Paul points out to the believers that they were dead at one time, when they were living in sin following the sinful ways of this world.

Sin appears to be fun and exciting, full of life at the time of one doing it. However, all sin brings about death. It is immediate death to one’s relationship with God. Later it can and will bring about death to relationships with other people, and ultimately death to one’s own self, both physically and spiritually.

Every person who has chosen to believe in Jesus is no longer dead, but now made alive. He has been made alive, because he has been forgiven of the past sins that caused him to be dead.

Sadly, many believers go back to being dead. They choose to live in sin and follow the sinful practices and beliefs of this fallen world. Jesus did not save a person to allow him to go back to sin and become dead again. He is saved to be alive for all eternity.

Each believer has a choice to make each and every day. He can choose to be alive and remain alive, or he can choose to go back to being dead in sin. No true believer will go back to being dead.

As a believer you, also, were once dead in sin. You used to follow the sinful ways of the world. At some point you chose to believe in Jesus, repent of your sins and were made alive.

Do not allow yourself to go back to being the living dead. Do not succumb to the sinful ways and practices of this fallen, sinful world.

Live the life that Jesus purchased for you. Live a life of obedience to God and His ways. Only in doing this, will you know what true life is while walking in this dead world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will be alive in Jesus; that you will obey God’s word; that God will guide you in fleeing the sinful ways of this world; and that you will be an example of the life of Jesus to this dead world.

Isaiah 55:7 Let There Be A Change

Bend in road

Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Isaiah 55:7

Changing personal ways is something most people do not ever want to do. It is something that is difficult and can often be somewhat painful.

Most people like the way they are and don’t see a reason to change. This can even be true when the change is for the better in the long wrong. Humans want the benefit immediately, not after a long time and lots of work. They want the benefits now without the hard work.

Through Isaiah, God calls those who are wicked to change their ways and thoughts and turn to Him. God is willing to have mercy upon them and free them from all guilt.

There are people every where who claim to follow Jesus, yet their lifestyle and thoughts do not show it. In fact, many will just claim that is who they are and they cannot nor will change. They stay living in a sinful way or keep on with the sinful thoughts in their hearts.

Churches are filled with people claiming to be believers, but are not willing to change. God has set a standard of living that is above the ways and thoughts of mankind. It is a holy and righteous standard of living.

One cannot earn his salvation by living a righteous life and turning away from sin, because that price was paid for by Jesus. However, turning from sin and changing the thoughts is a love response for what Jesus has done. It is showing that one is truly grateful for the salvation that Jesus has provided. It shows a change to a new creation in Christ Jesus.

As a believer, you have been forgiven and saved by Jesus. Your sins have been removed. Now it is time to change your ways and not go back to those sins or sinful thoughts. He will pardon you from your sinful ways when you turn from them.

Allow God to change you into the new image of Jesus. Be willing to forsake and turn away from old sinful habits and thoughts. Allow the Holy Spirit to change you from the inside out. Do not stay the same in the old sinful ways.

God is ready to have mercy upon you and freely pardon you. Let Him do so.

I pray today that you will know the forgiveness of Jesus; that you will allow Jesus to be your Savior; that you will turn from all sin towards God; that you will live your life as an image of Jesus; and that you will not abuse the mercy of God.
