Ephesians 4:22-23 Get A New Mindset

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put of your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; Ephesians 4:22-23

In the business world, people are expected to change, to increase in their abilities to be the best in their field of expertise. Corporations are always giving training on how to be better on the job. Changes are made to improve production and sales.

In order to make the needed changes, people must be willing to change their old habits and mindsets.

As Paul is giving instructions on how to live as a believer, he tells the people that they have been taught to put on their old sinful self by having a change of their mindset.

At the moment a person chooses to believe in and follow Jesus, there must be some change in his life. If there is no change, then the belief is made pointless and of no value.

Too many people have chosen to follow Jesus without changing their lifestyles. They want to have the best of both worlds, sin and heaven. This comes from thinking that sin is good or cannot be stopped.

Believers who have chosen to allow God to rule in their life will be given the ability to change. God’s Holy Spirit will come into a person and change their mindset to one that is like God’s. They will learn to hate sin as God hates it and then choose to flee from it. They will choose to put off their old sinful self so that they may live a holy and righteous life unto God.

Until a believer changes his mindset, he will be unable to live a holy life unto God.

If you have chosen to believe in and follow Jesus, you are a new creation. Allow your mind to be changed. Your old mind lived in sin and was dying. Learn to hate sin as God hates it, so that you will flee when temptation comes your way, as it will.

Renew your mind so that your thoughts and attitudes will be those of God. Live your life as Jesus lived His. With God this is possible. He has called you to live a holy and righteous life and has provided everything you need in order to live that life.

Change your mindset and live for God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God to make you a new creation in Jesus; that your mind will be set on God’s ways; that you will live holy and righteously as Jesus did; and that you will think, speak and act as Jesus did.

Acts 9:22 Radical, Instant Change

Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah. Acts 9:22

Change in life is something that typically occurs over a period of time. Unless there is a major disaster, most people do not like change and resist it.

People are usually very content with where they are at. Or they are discontented, but not enough for them to do what is needed to change the way things are.

Change often requires work and effort to accomplish. It also changes one’s identity and purpose.

Saul had been a major persecutor of believers for some time. After a supernatural encounter with Jesus, he changes. He begins to go around proving Jesus is the Messiah and baffles everyone.

Every day there are people who choose to believe in Jesus and begin to follow Him. They may choose to go to some church to worship God. Other believers will support him.

However, it is very common in many churches that there is no radical change in the person’s life. He continues to hold onto some sinful activity and it is widely accepted in the church as acceptable. Churches and believers do not teach that to serve Jesus means there should be a radical change in one’s life.

Saul had such a radical change in his life that it baffled everyone who knew him. He went from being a hater of Jesus and His followers, to a promoter of Jesus.

Every person who becomes a believer should have a radical change in his life. There must be a turning away from sin. There must be a heart to tell others about Jesus. He must become a new creation in Jesus. This change should be so great that it baffles those who see him.

As a believer, your life must be radically different than your old self. Do not allow yourself to hold onto old sins and patterns. Do not try to keep one foot in the church and one foot still in the world.

Become a follower of Jesus that is so radically changed, that the world and the church stand amazed and baffled at the change. Be who Jesus saved and called you to be.

Jesus was a radical person among the people. Be a radical person for Jesus in this world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow God to completely change your life; that God will give you strength to turn from old sinful ways; that the world will see you as a follower of Jesus; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to the world.

Proverbs 4:14-15 Where To Avoid Walking

People on a street

Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. Proverbs 4:14-15

There are many different paths in life for a person to take. It is most common for a person to take the path that the most people have taken.

Choosing that path is easy because it goes with the flow, it does not create ripples or hardships and there are others on that same path. It appears to be the best path because many others are on it.

Solomon says that one should not set foot on the path of the wicked at all. One should avoid it at all costs and go another direction.

The path that the majority of people take in this world is one of selfishness and sin. It is usually a path that goes against God and leads one into more sin. The paths are ones of hatred, vengeance, greed, violence, pride, gossip, jealousy, and more.

There are many ‘believers’ who are taking the path of those in the world, the path of the wicked. They choose to watch, listen or do sinful things, because that is what every one else is doing. Often they do it with the claim that they are free in Christ and not bound by the law.

Jesus did not die to allow a person to sin more, but to free him from the bondage of sin’s punishment. It is to free the believer from continuing to sin on purpose. He has given a new path to walk on that is narrow and straight and leads to life and victory in love, grace and mercy.

Turning towards sin and accepting it as a part of life is to deny Christ and what He has done. The believer must avoid all paths of sin and run the other way, flee temptation.

The world will strive to get you to walk on their path. They will make it look and sound good for you. Avoid it, run from it. Avoid walking in any type of evil or sin.

God’s path for you has true life. It may be narrow and difficult, but it is full of life, leading to eternal life. Do not walk it to earn your salvation, but because you are saved. Walk it to thank God for what He has done for you. This is not to be done out of legalism, but out of love for God.

I pray today that you will know the path God has for you; that God will reveal to you paths that are wicked; that God will guide you from paths of the wicked; and that God will give you strength to avoid sinful paths.

Leviticus 11:43 Stay Clean

dirtyhands

Do not defile yourselves by any of these creatures. Do not make yourselves unclean by means of them or be made unclean by them. Leviticus 11:43

Being clean is something that most people strive to do. When a person gets done working hard and has been made dirty, he is quick to take a shower and clean the dirt off. He does not want to be found dirty around others.

Though the concept of being physically clean, there is another type of clean that most people ignore. That type of clean is being spiritually clean. Every person is born into a world of sin and quickly adapts to the sinful ways of the world.

As God was giving Moses the directions on what to do to worship Him and how to be holy, one of the things stated was staying away from some animals that can cause defilement. God had listed groups of animals that a person was not to eat or even touch because they would defile the person and make him dirty.

Although with the coming of Jesus the defilement of animals was erased, there are many other things or ways that a person must not defile his body with. These things are not so much physical as they are spiritual things.

For the believer in a fallen world, it is easy to get defiled with sinful things of this world. Going through life day by day he will always come in contact with sin. If he is not careful, he will take a part in the sin and become unclean.

Sin shows up in how people talk, act, react, see and think. Walking down the street, turning on a tv, walking among the world are just a few ways that a person can be swayed to touch something sinful. The world wants the believer to join them in sin and be made unclean.

Every day you will be tempted to defile yourself before God. While the world will choose to be unclean, you must keep yourself clean from all sin. Turn away from sin and do not even touch it in any way. Do not set yourself up to be tempted to sin.

Jesus cleansed you from all sin with His death upon the cross. He made you clean before God. Don’t go back into sin and become dirty again. Do not defile yourselves by touching the sin of this world.

I pray today that you will know the cleansing of sin by Jesus; that you will not touch anything sinful in this world; that you will focus your life upon God; and that you will be holy in God’s sight through the power of Jesus.
