2 Samuel 11:2-3 Going To Far

Apple and snake

One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 2 Samuel 11:2-3

Temptations are something that every person has to face. It is something that cannot be avoided. What a person does with that temptation, however, is a choice.

The world does not believe in sin, so they are willing to do anything and everything, every time an opportunity opens up the door. Most people will not think twice about doing something, regardless of what it is, when the door is opened for them.

David had stayed home from the battles and was out one evening looking around. From his roof he saw a woman bathing and she was beautiful. Immediately he sent to find out about her. This woman was Bathsheba. In the end he sleeps with her and she gets pregnant.

When David had seen her, he had a choice to make–to turn his eyes away or keep looking. He chose to keep looking and to find out who she was. Then he had another choice to make–to leave her alone or do something with her. Again, he chose the wrong path and slept with her, causing many problems.

Every believer meets up with temptations and choices to be made. Often, like David, believers will keep looking at the temptation, not immediately doing anything, but playing with the thought. As they hold onto those thoughts, the temptation gets stronger and the chance of making the right choice lessens. Many will then fall into the trap of sin.

Allowing the temptation to play in the mind, is allowing oneself to go to far. It allows the temptation to grow. This is with any temptation, not just sexual sins as David did.

There will come a time when a temptation rises up to face you. You will begin to have choices to make. You can continue to look at the temptation and allow it to rise in power. Or you can immediately turn away and flee the temptation.

The longer you look, the less likely you will make the choice. Do not allow yourself to go to far and make the wrong choice. Turn your eyes and thoughts onto God and seek His strength to overcome the temptation.

I pray today that you will keep your eyes on God; that you will allow God’s Holy Spirit to guide you to make the right choices; that you will turn to God for strength; and that you will honor God with your life and choices.

Deuteronomy 7:26 Keep Your House Clean

garbage can

Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Regard it as vile and utterly detest it, for it is set apart for destruction. Deuteronomy 7:26

Keeping the house clean is something most people want to have. There are some people who are obsessed with keeping the house clean, while there are others who do not care about their house. They allow the house to get dirty and stay dirty nearly all the time.

Very few people would openly say that they want someone to bring dirt and garbage into their house, regardless of how clean or dirty their house is. They know that garbage is not good to have.

Yet, everyday people are filling their houses with garbage on purpose. They will allow movies, books, music, internet, and more that is filled with garbage into their homes. The world sees most of this garbage as good and not as the filthy sin as God sees the garbage.

Moses told the Israelites to not bring anything that the nations they destroy have, that is detestable, into their house. Everything of the world was to be destroyed because of the sin it was.

Along with the world, many believers are allowing garbage to enter their homes. They watch the same movies, listen to the same music, see the same internet, read the same books and magazines, and more, allowing sin into their lives. This garbage is often praised as good, not the filth God calls sin. Many will try to claim the freedom that they have in Jesus to bring in the filth. Yet, that filth is meant for destruction.

Those who allow sin into their lives, will be set apart for destruction by God. God does not, nor every will condone sin in the life of a believer. There is no room for garbage.

Think of the things that you allow into your home or life. This can be in your physical home or in your life when not at your physical house. Does it honor God? Or is it an abomination to God?

The things, ways, beliefs of this world are being set apart for destruction. Any person who holds on the things, ways, or beliefs of this world, will also be set apart for destruction.

Keep your house clean from any garbage or sin of this world.

I pray today that God will reveal garbage in your life; that your life will be dedicated to God; that you will allow God to clean your home/life; and that you will destroy all things that are a sin against God in your life.

Numbers 34:2 Boundary Lines

Fence line

Command the Israelites and say them: When you enter Canaan, the land that you will allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries: Numbers 34:2

In life it is very common to have a boundary line. Countries, states, counties, and cities always have a boundary line. These boundary lines are put in place to show where ownership is located. The authorities are not able to cross those lines with their power.

Even individual people have boundary lines on their own personal property. They often will put up a fence to let others know where that line is. They want to protect their property from their neighbor.

As the Israelites were getting ready to go into the land of Canaan and take the land, God gave them boundary lines where they could live and own. They were not free just to live anywhere, but in a specific area of land.

This type of boundary is often accepted by most people. However, there are other types of boundaries that are not always accepted as easily. Many businesses have a dress-code boundary for their workers. They are given boundaries on how they can dress for work. There are boundaries on how fast a person can drive down the road, boundaries on what a person can say in public, how a person may act.

God has also given people non-physical boundaries in this life. The believer is not to step over the boundary line into sin. They are not to stray off the path that God has set them upon on their journey to heaven. They are not to step off into the boundary of hate and harm, but to stay in the boundaries of love.

Boundaries are set by God to help each person individually and everyone as a whole.

Although it is common to not fully understand why God has set up a boundary in your  life, you can trust God that it is for your benefit. God never sets boundaries without love in mind.

Do not be like some people and attempt to step across the boundary line into territory that God has forbidden you to take. Keep clear of the line so that you will stay in God’s purpose and will for your life.

Know that God has your best in mind when He sets the boundary line. It is for your benefit, not to hold you back.

I pray today that you will know the boundary lines God has set up in your life; that you will stay on the path God has for you; that you will trust God’s choices in your life; and that you will know the inheritance you have in Christ Jesus.

Leviticus 21:11-12 Don’t Play In The Dirt

Boy with mud

He must not enter a place where there is a dead body. He must not make himself unclean, even for his father or mother, nor leave the sanctuary of his God or desecrate it, because he has been dedicated by the anointing oil of his God. I am the LORD. Leviticus 21:11-12

Little boys are known for wanting to play around in the dirt. They like to drive their toy trucks through the dirt, racing them. They like to run around playing games in a field of dirt, playing football or some other sport.

As children get older, they usually turn away from the dirt. They learn that it is not good to get so dirty.

However, people do not completely leave the dirt. As adults, they change the type of dirt that they play in. Instead of physical dirt on the ground, they play with the dirty things of the world, porn, slander, immoral sex, drugs, gossip, cheating, lying, and anything else sinful.

God had set the Levites aside to be His priests in the tabernacle. One of the things that changed for them was they were not to touch a dead person or make themselves unclean in any way, for any reason. They were anointed as holy and dedicated to God. They could not make themselves dirty even for their parents.

Believers have been made clean, set apart as holy unto God. Once they are set apart unto God, they are no longer to go back and make themselves dirty, dirty with the things of this world.

Some believers attempt to keep their foot still in the world. They want to continue to play in the dirt and filth of the sin of this world. Yet, they are to be a shining, clean light before God and this world of what Jesus has done for them.

There may be things that you are tempted to go back and play in. Things that are dirty and filthy to God. Do not allow yourself to get dirty after being cleaned by the blood of Jesus. Turn away from all sin.

When Jesus cleansed you from sin, He set you apart as holy and righteous unto God to minister in His sanctuary.

Seek God’s guidance to keep yourself clean from all sin. Follow God’s path for your life in order to stay out of the dirt of this life.

I pray today that you will know the cleansing salvation of Jesus; that you will be holy in Jesus before God and this world; that God will strengthen you to stay out of the dirt of sin; and that you will be a clean light of Jesus to this world.

Leviticus 13:52 Defiling, Destructive Mold

Moldy orange

He must burn the fabric, the woven or knitted material of wool or linen, or any leather article that has been spoiled; because the defiling mold is persistent, the article must be burned. Leviticus 13:52

For most things and most types of mold, mold is something that no one wants to have. Mold can get into many different things in different ways. Most often mold is destructive. Once it is in something, that item has to be destroyed.

Some molds, such as the black mold, is not only destructive of what it is on, but also contaminates the air, causing serious sickness. Mold is alive, once it is in or on something it does not stop reproducing and spreading, destroying.

Cleanliness has to be maintained strictly in order to keep mold from infesting some item. Old food must be tossed out, places in a house/building must be cleaned regularly, and spilled water must be dried up. There is an active work to be done to keep mold from occurring and even more work to be done in order to get rid of it.

Mold is just like sin. Once sin gets into a person’s life, it begins to destroy and kill. It will continue to spread throughout the person’s life, until he is dead. It will not only spread in that one person’s life, but will also spread to others, causing death in others.

Also, just like mold, sin takes an active, persistent effort in order to get rid of it and keep it out. The blood of Jesus, which He shed upon the cross, is the only thing strong enough to wipe away the sin in a person’s life.

The passions of sin must be destroyed. The person must become dead to sin, just as the item must be destroyed when contaminated with mold.

You, along with everyone else, has been contaminated with the mold of sin in your life. Seeking the forgiveness of Jesus will get the sin removed. Once that is done, however, there is work to be done to keep the sin from re-infesting your life and soul.

You must take an active effort to keep your eyes on God and keep sin out of your life. Do not allow the ‘little’ sins in life to get a hold of you. Just as mold, it will continue to spread until it has killed you.

How much mold are you allowing in your life?

I pray today that you will know the forgiveness of Jesus; that you will allow Jesus to remove the mold (sin) in your life; that you will turn away from all sin and follow God; and that your life will be productive, holy and pure for God.
