Proverbs 28:4 Accepting Instruction

Crossing instructions

Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked, but those who heed it resist them. Proverbs 28:4

Listening to and accepting instruction is an annoyance to many people. The classic example is of a dad who spends hours attempting to assemble a new toy on Christmas morning, because he does not want to read the instructions. He thinks he can do it without the instructions.

People do not like to be instructed because they want to do things their own way. Getting instructions is like being the underdog or the worker and not the leader or boss.

Everyone wants their freedom to do what they want, how they want and when they want, thus instructions are ignored. Many will try to find a loop-hole in the instructions to get out of following them.

Solomon says that those who would ignore instruction are actually lifting up those who are wicked.

Being given instructions is something that has occurred since Adam and Eve walked on their earth. God gave them a few instructions on how to tend the garden, yet they ignored the instructions and fell into sin. They gave honor to the devil and praised him.

Believers are to obey God and those in authority over them. Leaders will give instructions on how to do something, just as God does. Rejecting those instructions is being selfish and praising those who are wicked. It is saying that those who do things the wrong way are right. It is rejection of God.

However, accepting instruction is admitting one does not have all the answers. It is admitting that someone is greater. It is allowing God to be in control. In doing this one will be resisting the wicked and all sin. They will seek to walk on the path of righteousness in Christ Jesus.

God has some instructions for you on how you are to live your life. Some of those instructions you will read in the Bible. Some you will hear God speak to your heart. Others will be spoken to you through someone else.

You have two choices when you hear some instructions. You can ignore it and be selfish, self-knowing and walk the wrong path. Or you can accept it in obedience and walk the path God has for you.

Do not allow the ways of the wicked and this world lead you down the wrong path. Take the instructions God has for you and walk His path for you. Resist sin and follow God.

I pray today that you will hear God’s voice in your life; that God will reveal His instructions to you; that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin; and that you will walk the life of righteousness in Jesus.

2 Chronicles 36:16 Despising God’s Word

Warning sign

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the LORD was aroused against his people and there was no remedy. 2 Chronicles 36:16

Warnings are seen all over the place, all around the world. Warnings about road work, dangerous gases and fumes, speed limits, falling rocks, and more. They are put into place to protect people from a great danger that is possible.

While most people do heed the warnings, there are also many who just ignore the warnings and continue moving forward. When these warning signs are ignore, often there is a accident that occurs. Vehicles run off the road, illness and injuries, and sometimes even death occur.

People often think that they are immune to the dangers that are warned about, that they can overcome the danger and are willing to take the risk.

God had sent many prophets to warn the people of the dangers of refusing to obey and follow Him. The people often just ignored the message and mocked His messengers. Occasionally they would follow God for a short time, but would quickly resort back to their old ways of sin and refusing to follow Him.

While God is very patient and long suffering, His patience does come to an end eventually. There came a point of no return and God had to punish the people, destroying the nation of Israel.

God is still sending out messages to the world and to the church. He is still in the process of warning people of dangers of living in sinful ways. While there are many who follow God faithfully, there are also many who mock God’s word and refuse to obey Him. They choose to live in ways that are contrary to God’s ways.

There is coming a day of final judgement. Ultimately it will be when Jesus returns for the final judgement. However, there can be consequences endured upon this earth until then.

Take a look at your own life and see how well you are heeding to God’s word. Are you striving to live as Christ Jesus lived? Or are you living like the world?

Every action that you do and word that you speak has a consequence. God is watching and listening. God’s message on how to live is beig given to you through the Bible and through other people, pastors, teachers, prophets and more. Will Jesus know you when He returns, or will He have to reject you?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will hear the warnings of God; that you will obey God’s commands to you; and that you will live as Jesus lived serving God.

Romans 9:27 Only The Remnant Are Saved

“Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved.” Romans 9:27

Paul quotes Isaiah 10:22 in this verse. During the time of Isaiah, the nation of Israel was about to be overcome and destroyed as a nation. They had stopped following God and were worshipping idols and He was about to destroy them. Yet, God left a remnant to be saved. There were still a few that followed Him faithfully.

About 600 years later, the quote was able to be used again. The Israelites were refusing to really follow God. This time, however, they were rejecting Jesus in trying to following God. There were several million Israelites, yet only a remnant were going to be saved. Only a few would actually choose to follow Jesus.

Now fast-forward to today and the scene is really no different. Although today one can look at the entire world and all the people of every nation, rather than just Israel. There are approximately 7 billion people on the earth. Estimates say that about 2.2 billion are Christian. This number includes anyone who claims to be Christian. It does not weed out those who never go to church, read the Bible, or pray, but just claim Christ in name only. That number is about 32% of the world’s population.

This means only 1 out of every 3 people claim Jesus is some form or other. Remember that Jesus said not everyone who claims His name will be saved. It is only those who do His will.

There is only a small remnant of people today who will be saved. Only a small remnant who will actually do what God wants them to do. Only a small remnant who will stand strong for God’s ways. Only a small remnant who will strive to be holy as Jesus is holy. Only a small remnant who will be a light in this dark world. Only a small remnant who will love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. Only a small remnant who will love their neighbors and enemies as God loves them.

Are you one of the remnant? Or will you be like the many who claim God, but rejected Jesus? Will you be saved in the end?

I pray today that you will love God with everything in you; that you will do the will of God for your life; that you will be a part of His remnant who will be saved; that you will be His witness in this world; and that you will love all others as Jesus loves them.
