Ecclesiastes 1:2 Meaningless

Question on paper

“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” Ecclesiastes 1:2

People search for meaning to why things occur as they do. Children are always asking why they have to learn some subject or topic in school. They do not see any meaning or reason for it.

Murders occur on a regular basis and people wonder why a person does the killing, especially in mass levels of killing. People want to know the meaning of why there are wars going on.

Disasters and sickness occur in the lives of people and people are always asking why. There does not appear any reason for these events to happen.

As people seek to find answers to why things happen, most often the answer appears that the event was meaningless, with no reason that one can see or understand. When this occurs, there are many who find life is meaningless and want to end it.

Solomon starts out this book with stating that everything is meaningless. There was no reason for anything.

Looking at most things there does not appear to be any meaning for why they occur. From the world’s viewpoint of everything that occurs, there is often no reason. Things often look hopeless and with no real purpose.

Those who believe in God, however, see things from a different perspective. Events in this life are seen from God’s eternal point of view, though often it is also difficult to see or understand.

The believer knows that things that are bad that occur happen because of sin. Sin brings people to do what should not be done. Sin has brought death, sickness and meaninglessness to many things in the lives of people.

Only in Jesus does one begin to see reason and meaning to everything that occurs. Without God there is no purpose for anything. God is the one who gives life and purpose to a person.

Going through your life, you will encounter things and events that do not appear to have any meaning or purpose. Turn your focus off of those events and onto God. Gain an eternal perspective of what is going on.

Realize that a lot of things that occur are because of sin and sinful choices.

Holding onto and believing in Jesus gives meaning and purpose to everything. Never forget that God works all things out for those who believe and trust in Him.

Your life does have meaning and purpose in Christ Jesus. Lean on Jesus and hope in Him.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will reveal your purpose in this life; that you will know the hope you can have in Jesus; and that God will reveal meaning to events in your life.

Psalm 73:28 Where Are You?

But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds. Psalm 73:28

Searching for a home to live in can be difficult for many people, especially when moving into a new area. One does not know the new city and what different areas of the city is like. Some of the areas are high-end with great security, but high cost. Others are low-cost, but with a lot of crime.

Finding the right place is challenging and scary. One does not want to make the wrong choice.

Along with finding the place to live, people are also searching for their place and purpose in this world. Many go through life constantly struggling to find where they should be and why they should be there. Most of what people are looking at are temporary fixes.

Asaph states that for himself it is good to be near God. He had chosen to make God his refuge, his place of dwelling.

God is the one who has created everything and is in control of everything. He is the one who gives meaning and purpose to everything and everyone. He is the one who gives true life to every person.

Those who believe in God, need to allow themselves to dwell near Him. In order to be near God one has to turn away from sin and turn towards Him. God will not turn anyone away who comes to Him, but one must come to Him.

This is a conscience choice upon the individual as to where he will dwell.

Often a person chooses to walk away from God and step into sin. This is stepping out from God’s protection and refuge.

Being near God gives one His protection and favor. It gives one a life that is full of purpose and full of life.

As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you. He will never turn you away. Find out why it is good to be near God by making Him your refuge.

God is on your side when you are on and by His side. Stay near to Him by staying in His word and talking to Him daily. Do not turn away to the temporary things of this world, but live with eternity in the front of your mind and actions.

Where you are today?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will stay close to God; that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin; that you will find refuge in God alone; and that you will know the full life God has for you.

Psalm 67:7 Blessings For A Purpose

Tropical sunset sea

May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him. Psalm 67:7

People always want good things to happen to them. They want to be successful in what they do. No one wants any trouble or even struggles at all.

When things are going good, they feel that they are blessed. At that point, many feel as if they can relax and enjoy life and do what they want with no fears or worries.

In these types of cases, the blessings are desired for personal gratification. The desires for a blessing are completely selfish and greedy. When this occurs, the purpose of the blessing can be completely missed. Sin begins to reign in the heart of the person.

The author of this psalm talked about people praising God for all the blessings He has already given. Now he prays that God will continue to bless them, but not just to bless them for themselves, but so the world will fear Him.

While blessings help a person out tremendously, they are given for a purpose, and it is for more than just making life easier. Blessings are to be a witness to the rest of the world. They are to allow the world to realize that God is in control and those who follow Him have His hand of favor upon them.

The world believes that a believer in God is weak and living a dead life with no real hope or life. They do not believe in God. Yet, when they see a believer being blessed and pouring that blessing out upon other people, they begin to revere God.

Believers are to take the blessings that God is giving them to help bless others. This is not just blessing other believers, but those in this world. It is to show the world how God loves everyone and is reaching out to them.

You can look at your life and see how God is blessing you in many different ways. Count the number of blessings in your life and be amazed.

Now ask yourself what are you doing with those blessings? Don’t just sit back and enjoy them, but pass them on to others. Allow those blessings to become a witness of God’s great love and control.

Give the world a chance to know who God is because of what He is blessing you with. In this way many can come to know Jesus through your testimony of His blessings.

I pray today that you will know how God is blessing you; that you will see all the blessings God is giving you; that you will share God’s blessings with others in this world; and that you will be a witness of God’s love to this world.

Psalm 56:13 Your Purpose In This Life

For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. Psalm 56:13

Survival of a major disaster or sickness often leaves people wondering why they were able to survive when someone else did not. The greater the disaster, the more questioning occurs.

People want to have purpose in life, but few find true purpose in living. Then when they suddenly make it through a challenge they are seeking reasons as to what their purpose must be in life, since they survived.

Some begin to go around speaking to others about how they survived. Others drum up support to help others survive similar situations. While these and many others things may be good, they are all temporary in their nature.

David had been delivered by God multiple times from life-threatening situations. He realized this and knew the reason for the deliverance. His deliverance was so that he would be able to walk before God in true life.

Every believer has been delivered, at a minimum, from death of sin. Sin in the life brought about an eternal death that no person can overcome on his own. Through Jesus, that death has been removed.

Along with salvation, many have been delivered from life threatening situations in their life. There has also been many who have been delivered from difficult situations in life that challenge how they live. Some will wonder why God has delivered them.

Either way, the purpose is the same–to be able to walk before God in His light and in His life.

Walking before God is walking in the path He has for each person. This can bring about more life and purpose than anything else in this life. It is an eternal purpose, not just a day-to-day living purpose.

God’s love for you is greater than anything or anyone on this earth. It is eternal and perfect.

He has a purpose for your life here on this earth. It is to walk in His ways and follow Jesus. It is to become more like Jesus everyday. This is the true light of life.

Realize that when God delivers you from sin or some great tragic situation in your life, it is so that you may walk before Him and be His witness on this earth.

God has delivered you for His purpose. Now go out and live that purpose out each day.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus brings; that God will reveal your purpose in this life; that you will walk in the ways of God; and that you will God with all of your life.
