Acts 2:40 Be Passionate

With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Acts 2:40

Most people have something that they are very passionate about. When they are around others who do not believe the same way, they will attempt to persuade them to the same way of thinking.

Often they will double down on the persuasion attempts when the other person is on a path that is seriously dangerous. Very few people want to see another person go down a path that will harm them. They will do what they can to get them to change their path.

After the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Peter told the people what was happening, because they did not understand it. Then Peter worked hard at persuading the people to be saved.

Every believer has come to a point in his life that he realizes he is on a path to death and needed to be saved. He has chosen to believe in Jesus.

While many believe this for themselves, many do not really believe it for others. They do not want to tell others about Jesus and the salvation He provides. They are afraid to offend others.

Those who do not tell others about Jesus, do not have the heart of God. They are not passionate about the things of God and refuse to warn others of the danger they are in.

Once a person has the heart of God, he will do all he can to warn others and get them to follow Jesus. It will become his passion, just as Jesus had. He will plead with the people and provide every reason he can for others to choose to follow Jesus. He will not be lukewarm, but hotly passionate about being a witness, not wanting to see others perish.

As a believer, you have seen the need for Jesus. Now you must see that others also need Jesus just as much as you did.

Do not allow yourself to be passive and quiet about helping them in their greatest need. Be passionate and willing to speak up and persuade them to be saved.

Not telling them about Jesus is hating them, not showing true love. This is opposite of what Jesus did and calls you to do.

Be passionate about Jesus and do all you can to point them to salvation in Jesus.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will have the heart of God; that you will be passionate about telling others about Jesus; that you will warn others of God’s coming judgement; and that you will be God’s witness.

Matthew 27:20 The Power Of Persuasion

But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed. Matthew 27:20

Persuasion is a powerful tool that is used everywhere for many different things. It is persuasion that drives people to purchase items that they often do not need or cannot afford. It is persuasion that often changes a person’s heart.

By the power of persuasion, a few people, with a few words, can change the mindset of many people. The many are deceived into thinking that everyone thinks that way, when often it is only a few.

Once Jesus was tried, Pilate wanted to release Him because He was innocent. However, the chief priests had persuaded the crowd to convict and kill Him. This was the same crowd that the day before was worshipping and praising Jesus.

Following Jesus goes against the ways and standards of this world. The world will do what it can to persuade a believer to stop following Jesus.

Most believers would be quick to say that they would not have cried out to have Jesus crucified if they had been there. Yet, many of those same believers are quick to fall to temptation to sin. Every time a believer sins, he is laying a strip across Jesus’ back and driving the nails into His hands and feet. It is as though they are crucifying Him again and again.

The only reason that a believer does this is because they are persuaded that sinning is the way to go. One is being persuaded that he needs to live as the world does and crucify Jesus, rather than lay one’s own self and desires upon the cross.

Rather than be led by persuasion to sin against God, believers need to persuade the world for their need of Jesus. That is the whole gospel message Jesus was brining.

Every day the world will work hard to persuade you to sin against God. You will have a choice to make, as to whether to go with the crowd or go with Jesus. One brings death, while the other brings eternal life.

Do not allow yourself to be persuaded to walk the path of sin and death. Do not choose to crucify Jesus again. Instead live for God, following Jesus and be His witness. Use your words and actions to persuade the world their need for Jesus.

Be the persuader, not the persuaded.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will guide you to not be persuaded to sin; that you will persuade others to follow Jesus; and that you will live your life for God.

Acts 28:23 Try To Persuade

Peaceful Waterfall

They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus. Acts 28:23

Paul had been taken as a prisoner to Rome because of his preaching about Jesus. God had a plan to bring the gospel message to the people of Rome through Paul. Once he was there, even though under house arrest, he was given opportunities to talk to people about Jesus. He did all he could to persuade them to believe in Jesus.

When a person believes in something very strongly, he will do what he can to get others to agree with him on it. This is especially true if it is something that is good for a person. All over people are trying to sell some product saying it is the best for a person’s health. Movies are talked about all the time as though they are the best thing in the world to see. Every car dealership has a salesman who tries to tell everyone that they need to get a new car today.

While all of these things may be good, they are also only temporary. There is one thing that every person needs that is eternal–Jesus Christ. He is the only one who can offer forgiveness and eternal life to a person.

Many believers do not talk a lot about Jesus in the public place. Some don’t because they feel it is a private thing. Others don’t out of fear, fear of rejection or fear of ridicule.

Telling other people about Jesus should be the first priority of every believer. Focusing on striving to persuade a person to believe in Jesus is important. This gives people eternal life.

Each day you get up, make it your priority to tell someone about Jesus. Strive to persuade a person that He is exactly what he needs. Every person needs salvation through Jesus.

Tell people why you believe. Tell people how Jesus has changed your life. Tell them what He has done in your life. Persuade them to believe.

Some will reject it, but others will accept your message. Give every person a chance to accept or reject Jesus.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will tell others about Jesus; that God will draw people to Jesus through you; and that you will not fear telling people about Jesus.

Acts 26:28 Persuasion Opportunity

“Then Agrippa said to Paul, Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?” Acts 26:28

While Paul is being held in Caesarea by Festus, King Agrippa comes to visit Festus. He is given a chance to hear Paul’s statements. Immediately Paul tells his story of how Jesus got a hold of him when he was traveling on the road to Damascus. As he finishes he challenges Agrippa to believe what he knows to be true.

Every believer is supposed to be a witness for Jesus. They are to tell others about who Jesus is and what He has done for them. This telling people is not to be done in secret code or in quiet action, but openly and clearly.

When you are telling a person about Jesus, you must not just stop at the telling. Yes, it is important to tell of what Jesus has done for you and can do for the other person, but there must be more. There must be persuasion.

Persuasion is the urging of a person to do something. The thing they do can be changing thoughts, or actions, or saying something, or physically doing something. It is encouraging the person to do the next step.

As you tell others about Jesus, you need to persuade them to make a choice in whether to believe in Jesus or not. Do not allow the testimony you give to just be some information they hear and forget about in the next five minutes. Seek a response to it.

In the case with King Agrippa, Paul was not able to persuade him at that time, but the challenge was there. King Agrippa realized what Paul was trying to do.

Not every person will believe in Jesus with your testimony. Yet, your testimony should be set in a way to challenge their belief. Do they see what you are doing? Or are you just giving some interesting information?

Every time you speak of your testimony it should be with the idea of drawing someone to believe in Jesus. Give that person the opportunity to believe.

I pray today that God will open doors for you to be His witness; that you will persuade people to believe in Jesus; that people will see your desire for them to believe in Jesus; that the world will be challenged through you; and that many will come to Jesus through you.
