1 Corinthians 4:12-13 What Are You Willing To Go Through?

We work hard with our hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world–right up to this moment. 1 Corinthians 4:12-13

Very few people are able to take cursing or trouble and accept it without retaliating. It goes against their personal rights and will usually fight back.

Some will go to the authorities to fight back, while many will physically or verbally fight back. This can easily be seen by the amount of violent crimes that occur on a daily basis.

Paul talks about all the things he and his co-workers go through to spread the gospel message. When things are done bad to them, they endure it and are kind, though often seen as the scum of the earth.

Throughout the world there are many places where believers are looked down upon and often hated. The belief of Christians goes against the norms of this fallen world and the world does not like it.

As a result, the world will treat believers badly, by cursing them, persecuting them and slandering them. The treatment that believers can receive is not any different then how Jesus was treated by the people.

How the believer reacts to these types of treatments is what makes all the difference. Many will slip into the ways of the world and react in the same way as the world does, striking back with a vengeance.

Unlike the world, neither Jesus nor Paul struck back at the people treating them wrongly. They answered with strong, but kind words that pointed the people to God. They turned the other cheek when struck, rather than strike back. Doing this is showing God’s true love for all people.

As you stand strong and true for God and speak His word to all people, you will face times of trouble from this world. People will speak badly about you and may even physically try to harm you.

You have a choice as to how to react in each and every situation. You can react as the world does and strike back. Or you can choose to react as Jesus did and continue to show His love with no vengeance. One way will cause the world to fight more, the other way will point them to Jesus.

What are you willing to go through for God?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow God to strengthen and guide you; that you will know the love God has for all people; and that God will strengthen you to make the right choices in every situation.

Matthew 24:9 It Will Get Worse First

Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. Matthew 24:9

Very few people actually like to be hated. They will do whatever they can to keep from being hated. It is for this reason that many people fall for peer pressure to do something that they normally would never do.

A few people will do what is right, regardless of who likes it or not. During the process of doing right, many hate it and come against the person, both socially and physically.

As Jesus was talking about the end times, He promised that they would be persecuted, killed and hated because of Him.

Often when believers are talking about their life as a believer, they do not talk about persecution or being hated. The talk is about God’s love, mercy and forgiveness. While these things are good and true, Jesus also promised persecution, death and hatred.

The majority of the world does not like a strong, true believer because he is for Jesus, who is against their ways of living. A standard of living is higher than the world desires to be and the world hates it.

If someone claims to be a believer, and no one that is not a believer does not like him, there is a question of who or what he is following. Jesus was hated, persecuted and killed. His followers are to be just like Him.

Instead of backing down and being quiet, timid little believers, every believer must be bold in their faith and witnessing as they follow Jesus. There was power promised to those who walk in faith in Jesus. The world will hate that power and will fight back, but the end result is eternal life for the believer.

Ask yourself who hates you and why they hate you. If the world is not angry with your walk with God, then check yourself to see if you are really following and being like Jesus or not.

The world hated Jesus and will hate His followers. The world will do what it can to stop you from following Jesus the more closer to Him you get.

Do not give up under the pressure of hatred, persecution and threat of death. Be like Jesus and go all the way. Go for the goal of eternal life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that the world will know you believe in and follow Jesus; that God will give you strength to endure hatred and persecution; and that God will draw more people to Jesus through your testimony.

Matthew 24:9 You Will Be Hated

Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. Matthew 24:9

Very few people like to be hated. Most people want to be liked. On every social media platform people strive to get more people to like and follow them. The more they get, the happier they are.

When a person is not liked or is directly hated, he will often wonder why it is that way. Most often people will think that there is something wrong with them, because they are hated.

Jesus gave a promise that in the end times, those who follow Him would be hated and persecuted.

Just as the world likes to be liked, many believers like to be liked. No one wants to be hated, so they will often do what it takes to be liked.

The sad part is that many believers will compromise their walk with God in order to be liked. They will choose to overlook sin. They will choose to participate in sin and even promote it. Many will water down the gospel message that people are to leave their life of sin and follow Jesus. Some will even say that there is more than one way to God.

When a believer is truly following hard after God, he will be hated by this world. Satan will paint a large target on him to try and destroy him.

Hatred and persecution will occur, no matter how nice of a person the believer is, because he goes against the ways and thoughts of this world. The believer does this because of Jesus. The world hates him because of what Jesus stands for.

Persecution is not a matter of ‘if’, but ‘when’. Following Jesus will bring it on.

You may not have had to suffer persecution yet, but it will come if you fully follow Jesus and are vocal about it. Do not be surprised when it occurs. They persecuted Jesus and they will persecute you.

Count it a joy when they hate you because of your belief in Jesus, because then you know you are most likely doing what God wants. Do not seek to be liked by this fallen world. Seek to be loved by God and have God be pleased with who you are and what you are doing for Him. God loves you regardless, but wants you to live for Him.

Today I pray that you will live by God’s holy standards; that you will not seek to please this world; that you will be a true witness of Jesus; that God will strengthen you in times of hatred and persecution; and that you will remain true and pure before God.
