My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. Psalm 25:15
When there is a hurricane coming in towards land, most people are focused upon that hurricane, wanting to know where it will hit and how strong it will hit. As they are watching it, they begin to prepare for the strike of that hurricane. All the ‘small’ things in life suddenly take a back burner and are no longer a real concern. Many feel as if they are trapped with no where to go and are just waiting out the destruction.
During times of crisis, people are focused on self preservation. They are seeking ways to survive what is going on and how to get through it.
David had went through many different storms in his life that were set out to destroy him. Men were out to take his life and strived to set up a trap to capture him. Yet, he kept his eyes focused on God, knowing that it was only God who could get him released from the trap set to capture him.
Today the Satan and the world are out to trap the believer. Attacks are set up to destroy him. The problems that a person may encounter appear to be all around, snaring his feet and holding him down. The trap is an attempt to get the believer to deny God and fall into sin.
While it is easy to focus the eyes upon that trap and problems, the believer must focus his eyes and attention upon God, the only one who can release him. God has made a way out of every temptation. He has a path for every believer to make it through the storm or a way to get out of the storm.
To know those paths, one must have his eyes focused upon God and His word alone.
During the times of temptation or struggles that come your way, focus your eyes, all your attention upon God. Do not allow the trap in your path distract you from God.
God will fill you with His Holy Spirit to guide you and get you released from the trap set to destroy you. He is the only One who can overcome what is set up against you. Put your trust in Him alone and see His hand at work in your life.
Where are your eyes focused today?
I pray today that you will be focused upon God; that you will trust God in every situation; that you will allow God to guide your steps; that God will release you from traps set to destroy you; and that you will see God’s hand at work in your life.
So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty. “What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it'” Zechariah 4:6-7
Zerubbabel had been commissioned by God to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. As he was proceeding to do that, he ran into many problems. Through Zechariah, God told him that it would not be done by his own might or power, but by the Spirit of God and His mighty power. The mountains that lay before Zerubbabel would be flattened and the capstone on the temple would be brought out which much praise.
Challenges in life come up all the time for people. The first thing most people try to do is solve the challenge or try to run away from the challenge. Working in their own power, may work sometimes, but not every time.
Believers will also have many challenges in this life. God will commission a believer to do something that will present a major challenge to do. Often people will, just like the world, attempt to solve the challenge on their own.
One of those challenges is to live the holy life through Jesus. People strive to give up sin on their own. They often make vows and chastise themselves when they do not succeed. This is where a person needs to rely upon God for the strength. Only by God’s Spirit can sin be overcome.
Another great challenge is being a witness to the world. Many go out in their own power and ways to tell others the gospel message. Before one does this, he should seek God’s direction and wisdom in how to present the message to someone. For each person it can be different. Only by God’s Spirit can the gospel message be affectively presented.
Allow yourself to be guided and strengthened by God’s Spirit to do what He wants you to do. In and of yourself, you can do nothing, but through the Spirit of Christ, there is nothing that you cannot do. The mountains that lay before you will be removed, if you allow God to remove them Himself. Do not try to move them on your own.
I pray today that you will know God’s Spirit in your life; that you will rely upon God’s Spirit to meet all challenges in life; that you will do things God’s way; and that God will remove many mountains in your path and life.
“See, I will make you into a threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains and crush them, and reduce the hills to chaff. You will winnow them, the wind will pick them up, and a gale will blow them away. But you will rejoice in the LORD and glory in the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 41:15-16
Through Isaiah, God tells the Israelites that they will be made into a threshing sledge. This was not for threshing weeds or wheat, but mountains and hills. They would destroy mountains to the point the wind would blow them away.
Moving a mountain implies that they would have great power. People have removed parts of a mountain in the past in order to put a road through the mountain. It takes a lot of explosives, heavy equipment and a lot of work to accomplish that.
Believers today have that kind of power. It is found in faith. Jesus said that all a person needs is a little faith in order to move a mountain and cast it into the sea.
Most people would love to have that kind of power. The world strives and fights to have that kind of power. However, the power is not just for your own personal use. It is not just to help you have power.
The purpose of the power is to be a witness of God’s power to this world. The last part of today’s verses says that they will rejoice in the Lord. Yes, they will destroy and crush many mountains that stand in their way, but they will not boast in it. They will rejoice in God.
As you go through life, you most likely will not destroy a literal physical mountain, however, God will give you the power to destroy mountains of sin, addictions, and obstacles in your life. As that happens, do not boast about it, but rejoice in the Lord. Give God praise for what He is doing or has done.
Remember, it is not you who destroyed the mountain, but God through you. God gave you the power. Allow God to use you to destroy the mountain, then rejoice in Him for doing it.
I pray today that you will know the power of God in your life; that God will use you to destroy many mountains; that you will be a witness of God’s power; and that you will rejoice in God always for all things.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Psalm 46:1-3
When a major storm is occurring it can be scary for most people. Hearing the roar of a tornado strikes fear into to many, especially when it cannot be seen. It is unknown where it will strike and destroy everything.
The psalmist talks about a mountain falling into the ocean. Imagine the horror most people would be thinking or going through if they were any where on or near that mountain. Suddenly the earth is dropping out from below their feet, shaking. There would be extreme fear in the hearts of most people.
Yet, the psalmist says, there is no fear because God is with them. He is their refuge and strength, always there to help out.
Seeking refuge and strength is something that is talked about a lot in the news. People are attempting to flee war-torn areas all over the world.
Most, however, are not fleeing a physical war, but are fearing for their lives in bad situations in their lives. Sickness, job loss, family loss, divorce, vehicle breakdowns, bills, changes, and many other things in this life bring fear into the hearts of many. People are seeking out refuge and strength.
You may be dealing with one of these areas, or you may have another area of difficulty that you are in fear of. Regardless of what you are going through, as a believer in Jesus, God is there for you. He will always be present ready to help.
You can go to God in the middle of your storm and find refuge and strength to make it through the storms of this life. While the world does have right to be afraid, you do not have to be afraid. God will bring you life, if you seek Him and trust Him in every situation in your life.
Regardless of how much your world is shaking and falling apart, God is there for you and loves you. Find your peace of refuge and strength in Him, He will care for you.
I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will trust God; that you will find refuge in God; that God will give you strength for the road ahead; and that God will remove all fear in your life.
