Psalm 42:1-2 Who Do You Want To Spend Time With?

Deer drinking water

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:1-2

Most people have a special friend that they love to spend time with. They look forward to time together. The newly married couple are always seeking to be together. While one is at work, they are thinking constantly about each other and cannot be separated, unless it is absolutely necessary.

This can also be seen in the business world. There are certain business men or women that people would love to spend some time with. They want to learn from that person and gain their knowledge or experience. Some will spend thousands of dollars just to be able to spend a few minutes with a person.

The writer of this psalm talks about a panting desire to be with God. He is thirsting as a deer thirsts for water to spend time with God. He wants to be in God’s presence.

While spending time with people can be good, there is one who is better to spend time with. People can provide some temporary help or comfort, but God can provide for eternal help and comfort.

In church there are many people who believe in God, but He is not the center of their lives. He is not what they seek and want the most in their lives. They are busy with other things in their lives.

The picture of a deer panting for water is one of who is desperate for water. It is one of life and death. Without water, one will die, it is needed.

The same is with God. God should be the most important person in one’s life. So much so that without God, one would feel as if he would die.

There may be many things in your life that you would like to have. Some of which you may think you need to have. However, the most important thing to have is God in the center of your life.

Spending time with God should be your greatest concern in your life. Stopping the rest of life to be with God should be a common scene in your life. Without God, you will make poor choices, you will be weak, and you will lose the battles in this life.

With God you will have joy, peace, strength and comfort for everything. What are you desperate for today?

I pray today that you will know God personally; that you will desire to spend time with God; that you will know God’s presence in your life daily; and that God will be the center of your life.

Esther 2:3 Beauty Treatments

Facial treatment

Let the king appoint commissioners in every province of his realm to bring all these beautiful young women into the harem at the citadel of Susa. Let the be placed under the care of Hegai, the king’s eunuch, who is in charge of the women; and let beauty treatments be given to them. Esther 2:3

People like to look good for other people, so they will often get special treatments done to help them improve their looks. On every other corner are hair salons and beauty treatment centers for every one who desires them.

Every year, billions of dollars are spent by people wanting to look better on the outside. They put on an appearance of beauty on the outside, covering up any blemishes or faults.

The king of Persia had decided he did not like the queen any more and wanted a new queen. He began a search throughout the land for a new lady to have as queen. Many women were brought in to allow a choice to be made. Before they could be chosen, each one had to go through a time of beauty treatments to be made ready for the king.

Looking good on the outside is only a temporary fix for a person. It only deals with the here and now, but does nothing for the eternal.

Those who have chosen to believe in and follow Jesus are in the process of going through beauty treatments. They are being cleaned up and made ready for the wedding at the end of time when Christ returns to bring all believers to heaven.

While a person is saved and cleansed of all sin immediately upon belief in Jesus, there is still things to be cleaned up and changed in his life. The thought patterns and actions take a life time to change and clean up. It is the preparation for eternity in heaven.

As a believer, you must also continually go through a cleansing and being prepared for being united with God in heaven. The beauty treatments you are going through are not the temporary external treatments that this world has to offer, but the internal matters of the heart and soul. It is those things that last for eternity.

Allow God to cleanse you and change you into the person He has meant you to be. You must be like Christ and to do that you must be changed. God’s beauty treatments last eternity, not a few weeks. Be prepared to meet God.

I pray today that you will allow God to clean you up; that you will be changed to be more like Jesus; that you will be prepared to meet God; and that God will make you pure and holy as Jesus is.

Genesis 35:2 Change Your Clothes

Shot of a young man tying his tie in front of the bathroom mirror

So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.” Genesis 35:2

God had came to Jacob and refreshed his memory of who He was, that He was the God who met him at Bethel, who he wrestled with. God then tells Jacob to build an altar. Immediately Jacob tells his household to get rid of foreign gods, purify themselves and change their clothes. They had to get ready to meet God.

Changing clothes can be a sign of change in a person. The clothes often signify who or what a person is. Workers are often dressed in some type of company uniform with some label or symbol indicating what company they work for.

There are some clergy who wear white collars or a certain type of robe to indicate they are clergy members. Some people will dress in high dollar suits to indicate they are someone important. Rap artists will dress with jewelry and hats on backwards to identify themselves. When a person goes to a dinner party, he will dress up more, than when he is just relaxing with some friends at a pool party or on the beach.

As a person changes clothes, it changes who he is at the moment or what he does.

One type of clothing that everyone starts out wearing is sin and the sinful practices of this world. When a person begins to follow Jesus, he must be willing to change his clothes in order to meet with God. Although a person cannot change himself completely, God is there to help him change his clothing, to change his character.

The clothing of God is not physical clothing, but one of love, joy, peace, patience, humility, self-control, and more. It identifies the person as a follower of Jesus, a disciple of Jesus.

Take a look at yourself and determine what you are wearing. Who do you look like? Do you look like the world, living in sin and selfish ways? Or do you look like Jesus, holy and righteous?

As you notice what clothing you are wearing, take time to ask God to help you change any clothing you might be wearing that does not honor Him. God can change you, but you must be willing. Be the new person Jesus has made you to be.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will wear the clothing of God; that the world will see you as a follower of Jesus; that you will look like Jesus to the world; and that you will allow God to change your clothes.

Hebrews 10:22 Get Near To God

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:22

Having just pointed out that Jesus has removed the sins of the people and made a way for them to enter into the Holy of Holies to be with God, they are encouraged to go in. The curtain was the dividing line between the Holy and the Most Holy. On the other side was where God would dwell. The author of Hebrews wants people now to move into the inner place to be near God, but he says it must be done with sincere hearts.

One has a sincere heart who is dedicated, not false in any way, no false motives, loyal, and loving. Not every person has a sincere heart.

Everyday many people go to a workplace to do some work, but their hearts are not in it. They only do the job for the paycheck, not to do the boss a service, or to do the people they are working for a service. Often they don’t even really like their job, but it pays, so they do it. Their hearts are not in it.

Other ways people’s hearts are not in something is in giving. They give gifts or money because that is the thing to do, not because they want to do it.

There are people in the church who believe in God because it is the thing to do or just to escape punishment of hell. They do not serve God because of a love for God and for what He has done for them. They are not approaching God with a sincere heart.

If you have a sincere heart for God, you will approach Him with a great love for Him. You will have a great respect for who He is. You will not just be seeking to get something from Him, but to offer yourself to Him.

You will also know that Jesus has made the way for you to go to God. It was not something you did or earned.

How are you going before God today? Do you have a sincere heart?

I pray today that you will know the cleansing Jesus has given you; that you will know you can approach God; that you will have a sincere heart before God; and that you will know God in a new, better way.
