Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel! Amos 4:12
Meeting someone of very high position or authority can sometimes take special preparation. It may mean that one must dress a certain way or learn certain protocols on what to say and do or not say and do in the meeting. Such a meeting is different than meeting a close friend or buddy that can be joked around with. One must put forward the best character out of proper respect.
Amos records God saying that there are things He will do to Israel because of their sin. Then He tells them to prepare to meet Him.
The world understands needing proper protocol to meet people of high authority. Going in to meet the president of a large corporation, people are expected to dress in a suit and tie and not be joking around. One is to put on the best for the leader being met.
While the world puts on their best for their leaders, they ignore God and continue to put on sin. Some in the church will tend to do the same. As they go to church and claim to believe in God, they clothe themselves with sin, disrespecting and disobeying God.
At some point every person will have to meet God. This meeting of God will be one of joy or one of terror. Those who have repented of their sins and strive to obey and follow God will have a meeting of joy. Those who choose to disobey Him will only have a time of terror in the meeting.
The preparation to meet God is a time to repent and be forgiven of all sin. Jesus will remove all sin and clothe one with His righteousness so that one will be prepared to meet the Father.
You may have had opportunities to meet someone of high position. God is giving you the opportunity to meet with Him. It is completely up to you as to how that meeting with God will go.
Take time to prepare yourself for that meeting. Repent of all sin and allow the saving blood of Jesus to cleanse you of those sins. Put on the saving righteousness of Jesus and go before God the Father as pure and holy. Do not give God a reason to have to strike you down, but to say, ‘well done good and faithful servant’.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will always be prepared to meet with God; that God will be pleased with your heart, actions and word; and that you will know the forgiveness and love of God.
