Matthew 17:5 Listen To Him

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew 17:5

Millions of voices are speaking every day throughout the entire world. Technology allows people to speak from any part of the world to any other part of the world instantly.

All of these voices are saying different things. Some will distinctly contradict others, while some will be similar in what they are saying. Challenges arise as to who one is supposed to listen to and which ones are telling the truth.

While three of the disciples and Jesus were on a mountaintop, the voice of God spoke from a cloud to them They were told that God was pleased with Jesus, His Son, and that they were to listen to Him.

It is easy to hear someone speak, but it is an entirely different thing to actually listen and put into practice what another person is saying.

Every week people go to church services all over the world and hear words of what Jesus had said. While they heard what He said, very few actually choose to obey what He said. They do not actually listen to Him, but only physically hear Him.

Since Jesus and God are examples of perfect love, they only want what is best for every believer. They are both eternal and know what is best because they can see the eternally big picture of every thing in the believer’s life and this world.

Jesus only speaks the truth and what the Father wants Him to say. If He is speaking what God is saying, it is best for the believer to listen and obey it, not just hear it.

Every day you will hear thousands of voices speaking to you through many different types of media and in person. You have to make a choice as to who you will listen to.

While people may have some fair advice to give you, God has perfect advice for you through His Holy Spirit and His word. Focus on what God is saying. Listen and then obey His every word to you.

God will never lead you astray nor deceive you in any way. His perfect love will only lead you on the perfect path for your life.

Who are you listening to today?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will hear God’s voice in your life; that you will know what God is saying to you; that you will obey God’s every word to you; and that God will be able to say that He is well pleased with you.

Matthew 17:5 Listen To Him

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew 17:5

Hearing someone speak is easy to do. Everywhere a person goes he can hear other people talking. Just because he hears a person talking does not necessarily mean that he understands what it being talked about or that he even cares about what is being said. Most of what people hear goes in one ear and out the other, it is ignored.

While up on mountain with Jesus, some disciples were with Him and a bright cloud covered them. God spoke out of the cloud telling them to emphatically listen to Jesus.

Listening takes hearing to a whole new level. It is much more than just hearing words. It is understanding and following those words. It is carefully paying attention to what is being said and putting into practice what is being said.

Jesus taught many things about how to live life on this earth and how to please God. Many believers have heard these words, but never attempt to put them into practice. Or they do not understand what He said. They are not really listening.

To follow Jesus means that one will leave his past behind and become someone very different. This is not a option, as many think and act like it is. In order to be different, one has to emphatically listen to what Jesus says and then apply it his life. It is no longer about self, but about pleasing God.

Later when Jesus left the earth He sent the Holy Spirit to remind His followers of what He said and to guide them in how to live that way. Every believer still needs to listen to Him.

As a believer, you have probably heard many things that Jesus said, whether by reading it in the Bible or hearing it preached. Do not allow those words to just go in one ear and out the other, but actually emphatically listen to what is being said.

Allow Jesus to change you into a new creation by His word abiding in your heart and life. Take time every day and throughout every day to meditate and think about what Jesus has said.

Are you hearing or listening to Jesus? You need to listen to Him!

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will hear Jesus speaking into your life; that you will listen to what God is saying; and that you will apply God’s word to your life.
