While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew 17:5
Millions of voices are speaking every day throughout the entire world. Technology allows people to speak from any part of the world to any other part of the world instantly.
All of these voices are saying different things. Some will distinctly contradict others, while some will be similar in what they are saying. Challenges arise as to who one is supposed to listen to and which ones are telling the truth.
While three of the disciples and Jesus were on a mountaintop, the voice of God spoke from a cloud to them They were told that God was pleased with Jesus, His Son, and that they were to listen to Him.
It is easy to hear someone speak, but it is an entirely different thing to actually listen and put into practice what another person is saying.
Every week people go to church services all over the world and hear words of what Jesus had said. While they heard what He said, very few actually choose to obey what He said. They do not actually listen to Him, but only physically hear Him.
Since Jesus and God are examples of perfect love, they only want what is best for every believer. They are both eternal and know what is best because they can see the eternally big picture of every thing in the believer’s life and this world.
Jesus only speaks the truth and what the Father wants Him to say. If He is speaking what God is saying, it is best for the believer to listen and obey it, not just hear it.
Every day you will hear thousands of voices speaking to you through many different types of media and in person. You have to make a choice as to who you will listen to.
While people may have some fair advice to give you, God has perfect advice for you through His Holy Spirit and His word. Focus on what God is saying. Listen and then obey His every word to you.
God will never lead you astray nor deceive you in any way. His perfect love will only lead you on the perfect path for your life.
Who are you listening to today?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will hear God’s voice in your life; that you will know what God is saying to you; that you will obey God’s every word to you; and that God will be able to say that He is well pleased with you.
