Romans 6:11 Be Dead To Sin

In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:11

In the eyes of the world there is no solid line of right and wrong. Everything depends upon the situation as to whether it is right or wrong, which can change on a regular basis.

Life is about pleasure of self for most people around the world. It is about how they can be happy, regardless of what the action is. If it makes a person happy and successful, then it is acceptable. In this way, there is no such thing as sin in the eyes of the world.

Paul says that believers are to count themselves as dead to sin, but alive to God.

When a person has died, there is absolutely nothing that can affect them any longer on this earth. No one can make them work, or stop working. No one can entice them to do something or not do something. They are dead with no feelings or abilities to do anything anymore.

Prior to becoming a believer, a person is dead to God, but alive to self and this world. His life is governed by the standards of this world–that anything that makes him happy is good.

Once a person becomes a believer and begins to follow Jesus, he is to die with Christ to sin. He is allow himself to be dead to sin so that sin has no more power over him. All desires to sin are done away with, because he is no longer alive, but dead.

Instead of hiding behind faults and past actions, one must be dead to sin. God can and is willing to change a person, to make him a new creation who does not purposefully walk in sin. This only happens when one is alive to God in Christ Jesus.

As a believer you no longer have to sin. Every sin is a choice that you make by your own free will that God has given you. Instead of falling to temptation and sinning, live for God.

Allow yourself to become dead to sin and alive to God. When you are living for God all the time, you will no longer have the time to sin, nor the desire to sin.

Focus all of your life and being upon living for God now that you are dead to sin.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will choose to be dead to sin; that you will live for God; that you will turn away from all sin towards God; and that you will know the life God has for you.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Give It Your All

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24

Playing sports is something that a lot of people like to do in their spare time. Most people like to play some sport just for some leisurely fun every so often, but not on a regular basis or with any real seriousness to it.

Very few people are able to have the drive and put in the hard work and effort that professional sportsmen put in. They are content to just be an amateur.

Paul compares the believer’s life to that of a runner. He told the people to run the race in order to win the prize.

In every sport there is one person or team that gets the grand prize. Only one can be number one. In order to win the number one position, one must put in a lot of work and dedication to playing his best or improving to become the best.

As with playing sports, many people become a believer, but do nothing beyond that. They are content to stay right where they are.

Every believer ought to be running hard after God. He should strive to do his best and most for God all the time.

No matter how much a person knows about the bible, there is more to be learned. No matter how much a person prays, there are more prayers to be made. No matter how much a person flees from sin, there is more sin to flee from. No matter how much a person looks like Jesus, there is always room for improvement.

One should always strive to be the best for God in every area of his life, not out of pride, but out of love for God.

Examine your life and see how you are running the race to be more like Jesus and to do things for God. Have you allowed yourself to become lazy and not give your best? Or are you always striving to give your best to God in every area of your life?

Live your life for God in such a way as to be running for the grand prize that only one person can get. Do not allow yourself to be lazy and accept only second place. Every believer can qualify for the grand prize as he runs for it.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will strive to live more like Jesus everyday; that God will give you strength as you run hard after Him; and that you will not be disqualified to gain the prize of eternal life when Jesus returns.

Romans 14:8 What Is Your Purpose In Life?

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Romans 14:8

All over the world, people are searching for their purpose in life. They want to know why they are there and what they are to do.

Some will find their purpose and reject it. Others will find that purpose and pursue it with everything in them. Many will never find that purpose. Never really knowing what they are to do, they just wander through life, lost.

As Paul points out that all foods are good to eat, he also points out that each person is to live or die for the Lord.

Without God in the picture, man has no real purpose on this earth. He lives for a short time, eats, drinks, works, and then dies. It is all over, with no lasting purpose.

The world has no real, solid standard to live by, anything goes. With no standard, there can be no purpose.

God made man for fellowship with Him and with others. He has set the rules for living a full, worthwhile, purposeful life. Every person can have a life that is full of meaning and purpose, beyond anything that this world can offer.

The life of a believer is to be lived for God in life and in death, in everything that one does. Jesus came to bring life to every person. He bought their lives with His blood, thus every person belongs to Him. Most, however, do not know that.

Sadly, many believers do not fully realize that they belong to Christ. They live their lives trying to please themselves and others. Living for God means that one will do everything he does for God and by God’s methods. He does not live for self or others.

As a believer, you also are to live for God in all that you do. Examine your life and see what your real purpose is in this life. See if it is for self or for God.

Seek God to find out what His purpose in this life. Then pursue that purpose and really live for God in every area of your life. This is turning from all sin, then becoming His witness and making disciples as you worship God with all of your life. This is the same purpose as what Jesus had.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will live for God; that you will know God’s purpose for your life; that God will open doors for you to do His will; and that you will be a witness for Jesus everywhere you go.

Isaiah 44:22 Redeemed…Now Return

Misty mountains

I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you. Isaiah 44:22

When a person purchases something, he expects to get it. The object purchased is expected to become his property and he is allowed to have it and do with it as he pleases.

Loans are often received with some object put up as collateral to ensure that the person will pay back the loan. As soon as he has made the last payment, the object that was put up for collateral is expected to be returned to him. It becomes his property again, because the full payment was made.

God is telling the people of Israel that He has paid the price for their sins and wiped them out. He had purchased their lives and now belonged to Him. Since they belonged to Him, they were to return to Him.

At the moment Jesus died upon the cross, He had paid the price for sin for every person, for all time. He bought back the people for God’s use.

Every person who has chosen to follow Jesus, has realized that he was redeemed, bought back. However, some have chosen to walk away from God in order to live in sin. They turned their backs on the redemption that Jesus had provided. Some of these fool themselves into thinking that they are following God, because they go to church, but in reality are living in sin, following the world and the devil.

God is telling these people to return to Him. Regardless of what sin a person does, God is right there willing to forgive and forget and move on. He wants every person for Himself. Because of what Jesus did, God owns the rights to every person.

If at some point in your life you have chosen to accept what Jesus did for you, you are redeemed. You were bought back at a price, the price of life. God owns you now.

Do not allow yourself to go back to the old life of sin and death. Don’t choose to give yourself back to the devil and reject the redemption Jesus has purchased for you.

If you have slipped back into a old sinful past way of living, turn around, reject sin and return to God. God is waiting for you with open arms, because you belong to Him, He has purchased your life.

I pray today that you will know the forgiveness Jesus offers; that you will know you are redeemed by God; that you will know you belong to God; and that you will live your life for God.

Isaiah 31:6 Return To God

Rejected paper

Return, you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted against. Isaiah 31:6

The greatest thing that most people like to follow is self or other people. They believe that man is the greatest thing there is and is in complete control of everything.

With following self or other men, rejection of God occurs on a regular basis world wide. Many will never choose God in the first place. Other gods or no god will be chosen by many. People want to live the way they want to live and not be guided by God.

Living in this way is seen because of sin in the lives and heart’s of men. They are blinded to the real truth. Others live this way, because they have never been shown the truth.

In today’s passage, there is a call to the Israelites to return to God. They had chosen to reject God and rely upon others.

While the majority of the world is blind, there are many who chosen to follow God, yet have still rejected Him after choosing to follow Him. There are many believers who have chosen to purposely live in a sinful lifestyle, rejecting God. They have chosen to follow the ways of man, rather than those of God.

All this occurs while claiming to believe in God. This is a sign that the people have turned away from God and rejected Him, just as the Israelites had done. They claimed to still be God’s people, but in the same breath rejected Him following others.

Every believer needs to make the choice in his heart to only follow God. They are to turn away from sin and run after God. Instead of rejecting and fighting against God, they are to live for Him, following His rules and ways of living.

Every day you are alive on this earth, you will have a choice to make. It will be the choice of who you will follow. The world will tell you to follow others and your own heart, that you can be who want to be and live like you want to live.

Living this way is living in revolt against God. It is rejecting God and His plan for your life.

Choose in your heart to live for God every day. Live in a way that is pleasing to God. He has the best plan for your life, do not reject it. As long as you have breath, you have a chance to return to God and live for Him.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will live for God every day; that you will not reject God’s plan for you; and that you will not revolt against God by choosing to follow self or others.
