His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3
Every person in the world needs something in order to live life. They need food, water, shelter, and clothing in order to live on this earth. While many have all of these things, there are many who do not have most of these things. Look in every major city in the world and people will be seen without shelter, food or clothing.
Most of the world thinks that they need more than what they have. They feel as if they do not have enough.
This type of feeling has bled over into the church. People feel as if they need more in order to survive or make it. Although this is often seen as needing just physical things, it also means more to live a godly, holy life for God. Many believers feel as though they cannot really live the godly life as Jesus lived His life.
Peter tells the believers that God has used His divine power to give believers everything they need to live a godly life. This great power can be found in the knowledge of God the Father and in Jesus.
Knowing God’s great love towards the believer can help him be motivated to live a holy life for God and to love others. Knowing how Jesus removed all sins can keep him from going back into sin. Knowing how Jesus stayed away from temptation, can strengthen the believer to flee temptation. Knowing God’s mercy can help a believer to have mercy towards others.
Many people say that they really cannot live a holy life, yet, everything that a believer needs to live that Holy life is provided in knowing God and His word.
Seek to know God and His word more. He will give you what you need to live for Him. He did not call you to live a holy life, and then leave you on your own. God wants you to succeed in this.
Be willing to take the power God has given you and live the holy life God called you to live. Jesus removed the sin, now live like it has been removed and be holy as He has made you holy unto God. You have everything you need.
I pray today that you will know what God offers you; that you will know what God has for you; that you will know His power in your life; that you will live a holy life for God in this dark world; and that you will be a holy witness for Jesus everyday.
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, Philippians 1:9-10
Gaining knowledge is something many people are seeking. Millions of people around the world go to college every year to gain some knowledge in some field in life. They want to do better in life and feel that knowledge will help.
Knowledge can be good, if it is the right knowledge and used in the right way. Knowing how to sin and promote sin, does not do a person any good at all. The reality is that every person has built in knowledge in how to sin and promote it. It is the sinful nature in man that does that. All that knowledge will do is bring death to the person.
There are many who are seeking knowledge of God, they want to know who God is and what He is like. Thousands of people are in bible colleges or in bible studies around the world, just to know more of the bible. They are seeking head knowledge of who God is and what the Bible says.
Paul tells the people of Corinth that he is praying that God will fill them with knowledge through the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. However, the purpose is so that they can live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him with bearing good fruit.
There are many believers who can quote many scriptures and every doctrine, yet are not living for God. They cut people down, they lie, they cheat, they steal, and do not make any disciples. They are doing their own thing and not pleasing God by doing what He wants.
You have to seek God to find out what He wants for you. You need to find out what good works He wants you to do each day. How can you live your life in a way that is worthy of what Jesus did on the cross for you?
How can you use the knowledge that God has given you to build His kingdom?
Strive to please God in every way.
I pray today that you will know God’s word and will for your life; that God will show you how to live for Him; that you will bear good fruit for God; and that God will fill you with His wisdom.
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3
Needs are a common thing that every person has. What is considered to be needed is can be different for each person. The very core things that every person needs is food, clothing, and shelter. How much of each of these things are actually needed is what is different for each person.
For some people having one full meal a day and two changes of clothing would be great. For many others, they want a feast at every meal and several changes of clothing for each day.
The problem with looking at just these needs, is these are only temporary needs. These do not help one live a godly life for God.
Peter points out that God’s divine power has given you everything you need…for a godly life. It is not everything you need to live comfortably or to keep up with the neighbors.
Often believers are looking to God to provide the temporary things of this world for our pleasure. God may provide those things, but those are not the things that are truly important. These things may be good, but look for God’s provision for things that will last for eternity.
God has provided forgiveness of all sins and paid for your sins. He has given you His Word to show you what He wants. He has given you His Holy Spirit to guide your every step. He has given you His promises to know what He will do for you. He has given you ways to reach others for Jesus. He will provide ways to serve and love others.
All of these things will allow you to live a godly life, a life just like Jesus. As a disciple of Jesus and a child of God you are supposed to live like Jesus did. What things are allowing you to live like Jesus? Or are keeping you from living like Jesus?
He has already provided all that you need. Do you trust Him?
I pray today that you will know what God has given you; that you will live like Jesus did; that know the calling God has for you; that you will walk the path God has for you; and that God will use you to reach the lost for Jesus.
