1 Kings 19:8 Strength From God’s Food

So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 1 Kings 19:8

There is some type of diet for nearly every situation a person may find himself in. These diets are made to give a person the nutrition that may be needed. Finding strength and energy for a long and difficult journey is the desire of many people. Often people will look to fast foods and energy drinks to get them through it. These will provide a fast, but short burst of energy with a crash in the end.

After eating some food that an angel of God had given Elijah, he traveled for forty days and nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.

Getting through each day is difficult for many people. They lose energy and motivation to keep moving forward. Often what they are eating or not eating can have a severe effect on their energy levels. Most people are quick to eat junk foods, drink energy drinks, drugs and other things of the world to give them the ability to make it through their day.

Jesus had told the disciples that He found His food in doing the will of the Father. Believers are to eat or take every word of God into their lives. Eating of God’s word is taking and applying it to one’s life. It is obeying and doing the will of God in every area of life.

As one eats of God’s word and does his will, it can provide joy, peace and strength as needed beyond anything that the world can give. The strength provided is there until the mission is completed, which may be in this life or at the end of one’s journey in this life.

God has a mission for you to do, a journey to go upon. It will be difficult and sometimes long. In order to complete this journey in life, you must be well nourished with what is needed.

Find your nourishment and strength in God’s word and doing His will. God will feed you what is best and what you need to be able to finish the journey He has you on. Do not turn to the things of this world that will fail and destroy you in the end leaving you weak and unfulfilled.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has to feed your spirit; that you will eat the food of God; that you will know God’s word and will for your life; and that you will have God’s strength for your mission.

Deuteronomy 14:3 What Are You Eating?

Do not eat any detestable thing. Deuteronomy 14:3

What one should or should not eat is a topic that can be found world-wide. There are thousands of debates as to what foods are healthy and what are not healthy.

Some cultures will eat foods that other cultures will think of has horrible and would not touch it at all. In some places people will eat certain bugs that others would rather die than touch to their mouth. Whether some food is bad or not is often left up to the personal individual and is often based upon taste.

Moses told the people not to eat any detestable thing, then later goes into detail of what they can and cannot eat.

Under the Old Testament law there were many regulations on what foods were acceptable to eat or not eat. The grace of Jesus removed these regulations and requirements. Eating food, however, is only one thing that a person can take into his body or life that may be good or bad for him.

Along with physically eating food, people will eat of other things. Everyday people are ingesting things into their life through what they listen to or view.

The world, with no solid foundation of standard, is willing to partake of anything and everything. What makes one happy is the only standard by which the world lives, thus they take in things that are detestable and sinful.

Believers are to be holy unto the Lord in all that they think, say or do. God tells them to flee all sin and all appearances of evil. Sin should not be purposefully taken into the life of the believer but fled from as detestable.

Ingesting oneself with the things of God that are pure and holy should be the desire of every believer.

You may or may not have a physical diet of special foods in your life, but you most likely have foods that you will not touch for various reasons. Just as you are unwilling to eat certain foods, you must be unwilling to take in the sinful things of this world.

In the same way that junk food looks good on the surface, but can harm you if eaten, so the sinful things of this world look good on the surface but will harm your spirit. Reject the detestable things of this world and fill your life with the holy things of God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God wants you to take into your life; that you will seek the things of God; that God will give you strength to reject the sin of this world; and that every area of your life will be holy unto God.
