Joshua 8:34 Read All Of It

Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law–the blessings and the curses–just as it is written in the Book of the Law. Joshua 8:34

Most everything comes with a set of instructions in how to use the product correctly. Some of these sets of instructions are very detailed, long and boring to read and understand.

The majority of people ignore reading all the instructions, thinking they know what to do. They just pick and choose which parts they will read and ignore the rest. In doing so, sometimes important information is missed, and problems occur.

After winning a battle, Joshua read the book of the law of Moses to everyone in the assembly of Israel, to include women, children and foreigners.

Very few people actually read the Bible on a regular basis. Fewer people yet will read the whole Bible. Most people will pick and choose what verses or portions of the Bible that they will read, ignoring the rest.

Focus is often on reading about the blessings God will give the believer. No one likes to read or hear about the curses God has for people who choose to refuse to obey His commands.

In the process of ignoring parts of God’s word, people will allow sin to creep into their lives and think of it as acceptable. They hold onto and claim God’s love and grace, but ignore His judgement against sin.

Knowing and understanding all of the blessings and curses of God will guide the believer in the correct way to live for God. By His Holy Spirit, God can bring to memory the verses, that had been read, needed to help the believer overcome the temptation to sin against Him and to live the holy life as Jesus lived.

Unless you have the entire Bible memorized, you need to read the entire Bible. From the beginning to the end God’s word gives directions on how to live for God and what will occur if you choose not to obey and live for God.

Take time every day to read the Bible. Read all of the Bible, not skipping anything. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in understanding all of the curses and blessings of disobeying and obeying God.

Then share what you learn from God’s word with others around you. Everyone needs to hear all of God’s word, both the blessings and the curses.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will read God’s word daily; that you will know and understand all of the blessings and curses God has given; and that you will obey all of God’s word.

Exodus 16:28 Will You Refuse To Obey?

Then the Lord said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my instructions?” Exodus 16:28

Regardless of who a person is or where he lives, there is someone he must obey. There are rules and regulations that are expected to be followed.

While the majority will follow the majority of the rules, there are some that refuse to obey. They choose to do their own thing, disregarding the regulations that have been put in place thinking that they know best. Leaders and commands are ignored in rebellion.

God had given the Israelites some directions on how to collect up food and some chose to do it differently. God asked how long they will refuse to keep His commands.

Every command and rule are put in place for purpose. Many are for the protection of the people in some form or other, while some are for power and control by those in authority.

Any time that someone chooses to disregard and not obey a command or ruling, there will be a consequence. This can be anything from a light reprimand all the way up to punishment by death in the eyes of man. The more one chooses to disobey the law, the more severe the consequence.

God has great love, mercy and patience when working with His people, the believers. However, many believers choose to not always obey His commands. Although one may not see the consequence immediately, there will be a day that God calls the person to account for his disobedience.

The same question asked of the Israelites can be asked of many believers today as to how long they will refuse to obey His commands. Every believer must choose every moment to obey and keep all of God’s commands and instructions. He is to live as Jesus lived, obeying His Father.

As a worker and a citizen of a nation, you have rules you must obey. Just as you are willing to obey those laws, be willing to obey the commands of God even more so.

The commands God gives you are perfect and for making you perfect and holy as Jesus is perfect and holy. Do not allow yourself to become like the world and disregard and refuse to obey God. Turn from the wicked ways of the world and your sinful past and obey God. His commands are perfect and with love.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the commands God has for you; that you will obey all the commands God has given you; that you will trust God’s rules for your life; and that God will strengthen you as you obey Him.

2 Peter 1:3 Everything Is Provided

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3

Every time a person gets ready to do a project, he has to make sure that he has everything that is needed. He does not want to get into the middle of a project, only to find out that he is short some of the required materials.

The only way to know if someone has all he needs, if he reads the instructions on how to complete the project. Many choose not to read the instructions and just wing it on their own, thus failing to complete the project.

Peter opens his second book with telling the people that God’s divine power has given them everything needed to live a godly life. God called the people and provided for them everything needed.

Although people strive to live a godly life on their own, they will always fail. No one has the ability, on his own, to live a perfect Godly and holy life on his own. He will fail, falling into sin sooner or later.

Often people in the church refuse to listen to the Holy Spirit and choose to do things their own way. In doing so, they fail at living a Godly life and begin to live as the world does, in sin.

Instead of relying on his own abilities, every true believer will rely upon God’s power and direction. Throughout scripture God has given directions on how to live a Godly life. In the New Testament, God sent His Holy Spirit to guide the believer in living the Godly life.

God has given everything needed, but the believer has to accept and use what God has already provided.

When you see yourself struggling to overcome sin and failing to live for God, take note of where you are drawing your strength from. Are you trying to do it in your own power and abilities? Or are you relying upon God’s divine power and abilities?

Look to God for His strength and Holy Spirit to guide you in living as Jesus did, a holy and Godly life. Do not allow pride and self to control, or else you will fail and sin.

God has given you everything you need, are you using His materials and instructions?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow yourself to be led by the Holy Spirit; that you will live your life as Jesus lived His; that you will rely upon God’s power to be holy; and that you will rely upon God’s provision in your life.

Proverbs 28:4 Accepting Instruction

Crossing instructions

Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked, but those who heed it resist them. Proverbs 28:4

Listening to and accepting instruction is an annoyance to many people. The classic example is of a dad who spends hours attempting to assemble a new toy on Christmas morning, because he does not want to read the instructions. He thinks he can do it without the instructions.

People do not like to be instructed because they want to do things their own way. Getting instructions is like being the underdog or the worker and not the leader or boss.

Everyone wants their freedom to do what they want, how they want and when they want, thus instructions are ignored. Many will try to find a loop-hole in the instructions to get out of following them.

Solomon says that those who would ignore instruction are actually lifting up those who are wicked.

Being given instructions is something that has occurred since Adam and Eve walked on their earth. God gave them a few instructions on how to tend the garden, yet they ignored the instructions and fell into sin. They gave honor to the devil and praised him.

Believers are to obey God and those in authority over them. Leaders will give instructions on how to do something, just as God does. Rejecting those instructions is being selfish and praising those who are wicked. It is saying that those who do things the wrong way are right. It is rejection of God.

However, accepting instruction is admitting one does not have all the answers. It is admitting that someone is greater. It is allowing God to be in control. In doing this one will be resisting the wicked and all sin. They will seek to walk on the path of righteousness in Christ Jesus.

God has some instructions for you on how you are to live your life. Some of those instructions you will read in the Bible. Some you will hear God speak to your heart. Others will be spoken to you through someone else.

You have two choices when you hear some instructions. You can ignore it and be selfish, self-knowing and walk the wrong path. Or you can accept it in obedience and walk the path God has for you.

Do not allow the ways of the wicked and this world lead you down the wrong path. Take the instructions God has for you and walk His path for you. Resist sin and follow God.

I pray today that you will hear God’s voice in your life; that God will reveal His instructions to you; that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin; and that you will walk the life of righteousness in Jesus.
