Acts 2:40 Pleading With Others

“With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Acts 2:40

Right after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples and other people in the upper room, things started to happen. Those that received the Holy Spirit started telling others about Jesus. Peter gets some extreme boldness to tell the people about Jesus. He points out that it was the people who killed Jesus, but it was God’s will that it should happen. He also points out that Jesus rose from the dead. In this verse it states that he kept on pleading with the people to be saved.

Peter saw the people as lost and heading to hell. He also saw them with the eyes and heart of God. He did not want any of them to be lost for eternity in hell.

Very often believers will, if they witness at all, will only tell others about Jesus a little bit. It will be mentioned only in passing.

Although there is nothing wrong in this, there does not seem to be any urgency in getting saved. The importance of being saved is not really presented.

No person knows how long he will live or how long someone else may live. Doctors cannot even get diagnosis right on patients with a deadly illness. All any person has is today, right now. There is no guarantee of the next moment.

Every believer must keep this in mind. When you have a chance to tell someone else about Jesus, look at it as though it may be that person’s last chance to be saved on this earth.

When Peter talked with the people he was pleading with them. This was almost to the point of begging the people to be saved. He used many more words than what was recorded to encourage them to be saved.

Are you willing to tell others about Jesus? Do you see them as lost and heading straight to hell? Do you realize you know the solution for them? How much are you going to tell them?

I pray today that you will see the lost as Jesus does; that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit to guide you; that you will be filled with the boldness of Jesus to tell others about Him; that you will plead with others to be saved; and that Jesus will draw many to Him through you.

Revelation 1:18 The Living One

“I am the Living One; I was dead and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys to death and Hades.” Revelation 1:18

Jesus is speaking to John in this verse. He just finished telling John to not be afraid. Now He tells him that He is the Living One.

Only one person in all the history of mankind has died and rose from the dead on his own. That one person is Jesus.

He points out that He was dead and is now alive. There are some people who try to state that Jesus never really died. This then makes it even more amazing in that He would now be nearly 2,000 years old and still living.

Most try to say He never really rose from the dead. This also would be amazing because of the many people recorded who had seen Him after His death.

Along with being alive, Jesus is now alive for ever and ever. He will never die again.

Because Jesus had died and rose again, He alone holds the keys to death and Hades. Hades is the name of hell. What is the one thing that no man can overcome? It is death.

Many diseases have been overcome by men. As time goes along more and more cures are found for many diseases. But there is no cure for death.

Men dream about how to live forever. Movies are made all the time with a person living forever. Most people fight death all the way. Look at people with a sickness that will end in death. They are unable to do anything and are in severe pain, yet they still cling to life.

You are made to live. God did not create you to die. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were created to live forever. That was the case till sin entered their hearts.

How can this help you today? If Jesus has power over death, which is the one thing no man can overcome, does He not have power over everything else?

Your trials and tribulations that you are going through are nothing compared to death. Look to Jesus for strength and wisdom. He knows how to deal with every situation in your life. Remember: He beat death at its own game.

Jesus came to give life and life abundantly. Seek the Living One–Jesus for that life. See the hope and future you have in Jesus of life for ever and ever.

I pray today that God will reveal the life He has for you; that you will grasp the life He has for you; that God will remove the fears you have; that you will follow Jesus daily; and that God will give you life for ever and ever.
