Leviticus 26:1 Who Is Your God?

Man on a cliff

Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 26:1

While there are large numbers of people around the world that believe in physical idols, there are also many people who do not believe in them. There still some very advanced nations in this world that believe in idols and will set offerings before them and pray to them, believing that the idols can do something for them.

As a whole, the majority of people in the European nations and America’s do not believe in idol worship, yet, the majority worship idols on a daily basis. Instead of worshipping a statue, many will worship a thing. Instead of bowing down and praying to the idol and calling it a god, they worship an idol in different ways.

More commonly people worship things by spending their time, money, and effort with it, to the expense of everyone and everything else. The list is infinite in what the item can be. Some common ones are: jobs, cars, homes, hobbies, careers, celebrities, and money.

It is seen many times where a person focuses so much on his career and advancement in that field, that he neglects his family, friends, church and God. Making the position or pleasing the boss is all that matters to him, at any cost.

Others may be focused on a hobby–watching or playing sports. They do it to the point of neglect of everything else. It is all that matters to them. It consumes them. The hobby has become their god.

Believers are no exception to worshipping idols. There are believers who are so consumed with ministry, that they neglect time with God, family and friends, things that are important. They can also get consumed with the position and do it out of greed and pride, rather than love and for God.

What a person worships, may also change with time, but it is still putting something before God–an idol.

Take a look at your life. Where do you spend your time, money, efforts, and focus?

What is most important to you in your life?

Think of your top three priorities in life. If the top three is not God, family, and being a witness, then you may have an idol in your life.

I pray today that you will know God as your only God; that you will serve God with all of your life; that God will help you remove all idols in your life; and that God will be your highest priority in this life.

Exodus 32:8 Quick To Turn Away

race car turn

They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’ Exodus 32:8

Although most people do not really like change, they are also very quick to change. Looking at how society changes who they follow will show how rapidly things can change. There are celebrities who are followed by everyone today, and suddenly, within a short time, they are no longer the highlight of everyone, but someone else is.

What people follow changes almost daily. A big news article comes out about some event happening somewhere in the world. There is a big uproar about it for a few days, then suddenly, one no longer hears any more about it. There is a change of what is being followed.

God had done some great miracles for the Israelites right before their very eyes. When Moses went up onto the mountain to hear from God, the people suddenly changed from following God to following some idol. They quickly forgot what God had done for them.

Changing like this is still common to this day. People go to church, follow God, believe in God today. Suddenly things change in life and their focus is no longer on God, but upon something of this world. It is no longer God who supplies their needs, but it is the almighty job or money or something else.

This type of action even occurs inside the church with believers. Instead of relying upon God, they rely upon a person or some type of work inside the church. It is their hands that made things possible, not God. Their focus has turned to self or someone or something else instead of God.

Take a look at your own life and see where your trust is. Who or what is it you are following. Have you taken your eyes off of God and began to trust in the idols and other things of this world?

Do not be quick to turn away from God, but trust Him when He is silent. He is still working in your life. It is not the world or the things of this world that has brought you to where you are, but it is the hand of God. Don’t turn from God.

I pray today that you will remember what God has done for you; that you will trust God’s work in your life; that you will not turn to things of this world; that you will not allow idols in your life; and that God will be your God.

Psalm 48:14 Who Is Your God?

For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. Psalm 48:14

The term God is used by many people in many different ways. Each person that uses it, is serious in what he is saying or believing.

Millions around the world think of Allah, the god of Islam, when they use the term “God.” Millions more think of the one of many gods in Hinduism when the term in used.  Others will think of themselves or some other person in their life when talking about God. Christians think of the God-Yahweh and Jesus.

The only thing in common with each of these beliefs, is that the person attempts to follow his God’s every command. People believe that they are serving the true God(s).

Each person must choose who his God is. Choosing who that God is, means that the person will dedicate his life to that God and follow that God’s every command. He will allow his God to guide his every step.

As much as many want to believe that there are many gods, or that they are all the same god, this cannot be true. Each one teaches something different, so they cannot be the same. Only one of the gods is the true God.

God-Yahweh can be seen as the true God. There are no contradictions in His words. Time and again His words have been proven true.

Knowing this, then you should be making God-Yahweh, your one and only God. You need to be following Him with all of your life.

If God is the one true God, then you know that you can trust Him with everything. He is the One who made everything and is in control of everything. He is the perfect guide for your life.

There are map programs that are good, and then there are map programs that are much better or the best. Which one do you want to guide you on a trip?

You will want the one that will guide you perfectly, every time.

Is God your God? Make Him your God for ever and ever. Do not allow any other God’s in your life.

Are you allowing God to guide you? He is the perfect guide in this life.

I pray today that you will personally know God in your life; that you will allow God to guide your life; that you will never turn to others gods; and that you will know God’s direction in your life.

Nehemiah 9:6 Knowing Who God Is

You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry hose, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you. Nehemiah 9:6

After the Israelites had stood and listened to the Book of the Law of Moses being read from beginning to end, they realized what they had done wrong. They realized how they had walked away from God’s commands and why they were sent into captivity. Now they began to confess their sins before God. The Levites were leading the people in this confession. The first thing they point out is that God is to be praised and that He alone is God. It is God who made everything that is and deserves all the worship.

The world does not recognize who God really is. They want to believe that there are many gods, or even no god at all. When there is one god, then there is accountability to his ways and rules. People do not like to be held accountable to anyone, even a god. Therefore, in the eyes of the world, sin does not really exist. One cannot sin against something that does not exist.

As a believer in Jesus, however, there is a God. With God existing, there also exists His commands. When those commands are broken, there has to be either a punishment or a confession.

Those who have decided to follow Jesus have learned to confess those sins. The first part of confession is recognizing who God really is. He is the One who created everything and is in absolute control of everything. Because of this, He is the One who can make all the rules.

As a believer you must know this in your heart and mind. Realize that God is the only god there is in all of creation. Do not allow yourself to believe the way of the world that there are other gods out there.

God is the only one who should receive praise and worship for being God. He is the only one who should be sought for forgiveness and obeyed.

Who is God to you?

Is He just a god among other gods?

Or is He the God of all?

I pray today that you will know God personally; that you will know who God is; that you will worship God alone; and that you will let the world know who God is.
