Psalm 81:9 No Other God

Many beliefs

You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not worship any god other than me. Psalm 81:9

All over the world there are many different religions and beliefs. Worship of many different ‘gods’ is a common thing to see among religion. Some will even worship many ‘gods’ even within one belief.

There is another type of ‘god’ that many people worship. It is things, self, position, and other people. Focus on get things is the goal of many people. Those ‘things’ can be material things or position, but is the focus of people. It takes all their focus, energy and abilities to get whatever it is they want.

Once they have what it is they want, they begin to worship it. Belief that what they have is what made them who they are or got them to where they are. There is no room for anything else in their lives.

Asaph writes a reminder of one of the ten commandments, that they were not to have or worship any foreign gods. They were only to worship God, Himself.

While the majority of believers claim to believe and worship only God, there are many who tend to worship other ‘gods’. They worship their church, their position, their job, their things, their family and more. All these things are put before God in their own lives.

Any thing, both material and non-material, that is put before God has become a god to the person. As it is before God, it is being worshipped and adored. This does not belong there.

God is the One who created everything that there is, this is His world. It is His kingdom. Those who worship Him, must only worship Him. Anything else is foreign to His house and kingdom.

Believers must not allow anything to come between them and God, or else it is a foreign god that they are worshipping over God.

Take a look at your own life. What is it that takes up your time and focus? If it is anything other than God, then it is a ‘god’ that is foreign and must be removed.

These ‘gods’ may be good or bad things, but they are wrong when they take the place of God in your life. Do not allow yourself to be caught up in the things of this world and worshipping them.

Focus your life on God and worship Him alone. Do not allow any foreign gods in your life.

I pray today that you will know God alone as your God; that you will worship only God; that God will help you to remove any ‘gods’ in your life; and that you will find all you need in God.

Psalm 72:18 God, Alone Does It

Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. Psalm 72:18

Credit is often given to a person for doing something great. People see him do something great and think that he is wonderful for doing a great action. However, the action done is not usually done completely alone. It often takes more than one to do a great action.

Businesses are known for honoring a person for some great sales, but in reality it took a whole team to make the sales happen. Often, there are several that were the real work behind the great deed done.

Solomon praises God because He is the one who does marvelous deeds. He sees God as the only one who does marvelous deeds completely on His own.

It is easy for a person to take credit for doing something, but forget about where the real credit should go.

While people can do good things, even great things, they cannot do those good things on their own. Every person needs help to do anything, whether great or small. There is always the support of other people, but ultimately there is the support of God.

God gives each and every person the ability to do whatever is done, whether great or small. However, God is able to do great and marvelous deeds with no help from anyone else. He is the One the who is able to provide food, healing, life, health, salvation and much more to anyone and everyone who needs it.

Although honoring a person is good, praising God is needed for every good deed done. God is able to do those things alone, though He often chooses to use others to make things happen. God is behind everything good.

God is the one who is worthy of all praise for the good deeds being done.

Think about all the good things that you have in your life. Think about all the good things you have done in your lifetime. Realize that it was God who is working in your life. He is the one who made those things possible.

Give God the praise for what He has done and is doing in and through you and others all over this world. He is always at work doing marvelous deeds, changing and saving lives around the world, despite the evil being done in this world.

I pray today that you will see what God has done; that you will know the work God is doing in your life; that you will know the work God is doing in this world; that you will give God praise for His work; and that you will be a witness of God’s marvelous deeds.

Psalm 35:3 A Needed Reminder

Danger cliff hanging

Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to me, “I am your salvation.” Psalm 35:3

Throughout the world there are people who are pursuing other people to destroy them. Some are physically being pursued to cause physical injury, but most often they are being pursued with words in public or in private. Words are often used to damage a person’s life or reputation. False words can destroy a person quickly.

Those that pursue others to destroy them do it for many reasons. It can be out of jealousy, anger, hatred, revenge, to make oneself look better, or to cut another down.

As this is happening, most people have no support. They struggle to find help to stop the attacks. They do not see an escape route from those against them. This becomes especially true with the online social media ability to spread words.

David was being pursued by many seeking to kill him. He cries out to God asking for mercy and for God to attack his enemies. He asks God to remind him that He is his salvation.

While people are being attacked, they often seek help from others. These are often lawyers, costing thousands of dollars in court cases. They seek to retaliate against the attacker, just as the world is attacking them.

Believers understand and know that the salvation of the soul is found in Jesus, but often forget that being saved from attacks can also be found in God. The believers trust must be in God first and foremost, even in God alone.

Trusting in self or the ways of this world will fall short and fail. Trusting in God will never fail. Every believer needs to be reminded by God, once in a while, that He alone is their salvation in every situation met on this earth.

Just as you trust God for the salvation of your soul, trust Him to save you in every attack against you. Trust that God will take care of you, regardless of what the world throws your way or how the world tries to destroy you.

God is greater than any rumor or false lies that the world attacks with. He is greater than the physical attacks of this world. He is an overcomer and will win the war in the end for you.

Each day remind yourself that God is your salvation. There is no other name or help by which you can be saved from anything or anyone.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that you will know that God is on your side; that you will see God’s hand of protection in your life; and that you will trust God in every situation.
