Galatians 1:6 Are You A Deserter?

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel. Galatians 1:6

A person who chooses to leave his post during a battle is a deserter. It is giving up or going over to the enemy’s side during a battle.

Very few people like a person who is a deserter. Soldiers in the army who choose to desert during a battle are punished with some of the highest forms of punishment. At one time, they were even killed for deserting their post.

As Paul opens his letter to the Galatians, he immediately talks about how he could not believe that some were deserting Jesus for a different gospel.

At the moment a believer chooses to follow Jesus, he is enlisted into the army of God and is put into a battle for his life and the lives of others. There is only one way to be in this army and that is through the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is by the grace of Christ that one is allowed to be in God’s army.

The gospel of Christ is the only way and the only truth. However, many in the church, after being a believer, have chosen to follow a different gospel. Many have chosen to call things that God calls sin as though it was not sin. Some have chosen to believe that there are other ways to God besides Jesus. Some have chosen to continue to sin, because God will forgive them.

Making the choice to believe in things that are not from God as though they are, is deserting Christ and following a different gospel or truth. It is choosing to side with the enemy–the world. It is denying Christ, something a true believer would never do.

If you have chosen to believe in and follow Jesus, you are now in God’s army and there is only one way to live. That way is by the commands of God. God is your supreme commander and with only one truth to follow.

Do not allow yourself to be deceived by the world to cause you to desert Christ so that you may live in sin. Do not live a lie, but live by the truth of Christ–the gospel message.

You are a soldier in God’s army, will you become a deserter?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the truth of Jesus; that you will remain faithful in God’s army; that you will not desert God’s truth; and God will open your eyes to the deception of the enemy.

Galatians 1:6 Leaving The Faith

desertion

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel–Galatians 1:6

Paul opens his letter to the Galatians with a kind greeting, then quickly talks about how some were deserting the faith in Jesus. They had chosen to turn to a different gospel that was not the truth. They had left Christ.

Throughout the history of the church, there has always been some people who have begun to be a believer in Jesus, then later walk away from God. They completely leave the church for various reasons. Some change to other religious beliefs, while some just leave God altogether.

However, there are some who change to a new gospel, one that is not the truth and yet, staying in the church as a believer. There are churches that are preaching a gospel of love and forgiveness, but no change of character or turning away from sin. This is a false gospel.

There are also churches that claim to be Christian that also preach that a person can be of any religious belief and still get into heaven. They refuse to see that Jesus stated that He is the only way to the Father in heaven, no other belief will get a person to heaven.

These people have abandoned what the bible teaches and followed after a false gospel. Churches are following the ways of this world and the deception of the devil.

Every believer must be grounded solidly in God’s word. He must be willing to follow Jesus and what He taught no matter what the world tries to say. False prophets will be everywhere, yet, one who knows God’s word and is filled with His Holy Spirit will know the truth. They will not be swayed to something false.

Take time to look at your life and what you believe. Is it the same as what Jesus and Paul preached? Or is it different?

It is easy to get off track if you close your eyes to the bible and your ears to God’s Holy Spirit. Do not allow yourself to believe something that is not from God. Do not deceive yourself in thinking you are follow the true gospel, yet are not really following God.

Do not leave Jesus, but follow after Him with all of your heart.

I pray that you will know what Jesus has done for you; that you will have full faith in Jesus alone; that God will open your eyes to deceptions around you; and that your life will match that of Jesus.
