1 Corinthians 2:14 Rejecting The Holy Spirit’s Things

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:14

In order for most people to accept something, they must be able to understand it. It is very common for things that are not fully understood to be rejected.

While most people will accept natural things that they do not understand, there are some things that they just refuse to accept. No one wants to appear to be foolish by accepting what appears to be foolish.

Paul says that a person with God’s Holy Spirit cannot accept anything from God’s Spirit. It takes having God’s Spirit to understand what the Spirit is saying.

God works in ways that to the natural mind, often, does not make any sense. Why would a person follow another person who lived nearly 2,000 years ago? Why would a person give up a good paying job to make virtually no money to be a missionary or some other missions work? Why would a person give up 10% plus of his paycheck to a church? These can be considered foolish by the world.

Every believer, who has God’s Holy Spirit in him and is listening to the Holy Spirit, will do things that look insane to the natural mind. He is believing in things that do not follow the standards of this world.

The believer is looking beyond this life to an eternal life. The things that the Holy Spirit will lead him to believe and do, have a focus upon the eternal, not the temporal. Understanding this can only be done if a person is led by the Holy Spirit and completely trusts in God and His leading.

As a believer, God has given you His Holy Spirit to lead and guide you. There will be times that God will lead you to say or do things, or not to say or do things that do not make sense according to the world’s standards. Many will think you are crazy to listen to God.

Hold on to the faith you have in God and trust in Him. Know that what the Holy Spirit is leading you in will be of eternal value, greater value than anything this world can offer.

Be willing to go against the flow of this world as you are led by His Holy Spirit.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will be led by God’s Holy Spirit; that the Holy Spirit will help you to understand the things and ways of God; and that you will have strength to walk the path God has for you.

1 Corinthians 1:25 Wiser And Stronger

For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. 1 Corinthians 1:25

Over the centuries of mankind, there have been some men that have been considered very wise. They were ‘wisest’ enough to have been remembered over time. People look back on what they said and marvel at it and hold on to their sayings.

Very few people hit a level of wisdom in which many around the world even recognize. Some may appear to be wise to a few people around them, but do not have a large following.

Paul tells the people of Corinth that God’s wisdom and strength is greater than any that man can produce.

The wisdom of man is very limited. No man has experienced everything that could possibly be experienced. He has never learned absolutely everything about nearly anything. It only appears to be very wise, because it is often beyond that of those around him.

God is the only being in the universe that has perfect experience and knowledge. He is the only one that can qualify for perfect wisdom in every area of life. Along with having that perfect wisdom, God also made everything, giving Him the greatest strength.

In His perfect wisdom and strength, God made salvation possible for all men. He also sent His Holy Spirit to guide every believer in how to live a holy life for Him.

Instead of looking to books and other people, every believer must be looking to God for wisdom and strength. While books and people can help some, they will fall short in the end. Only God has perfect wisdom.

To most men, God’s wisdom will appear foolish, but it is because God can see the end result clearly, whereas man cannot.

You are in need of wisdom and strength in how to live your life each day for God. Do not short change yourself by looking just to the poor wisdom of man, but look to God’s perfect wisdom.

God is waiting and ready to impart some of His wisdom to you, if you ask for it. Trust that God knows what is best in every situation and do what He says. Trust that God will give you the needed strength to get through each and every situation He allows you to be in.

Remember that His wisdom and strength is greater than that of any person, including you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will trust God’s wisdom for your life; that you will trust God’s strength; that you will seek God first for every situation; and that God will reveal His wisdom to you.

1 Corinthians 1:21 Foolishness In The Message

man in field

For since in the wisdom of God the world did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 1 Corinthians 1:21

The world claims that Christianity is foolishness. Many people do not want to follow Jesus, because it does not appear to make sense to them. People have a hard time with the concept of turning the other cheek, loving their enemies, trusting in someone who they cannot see, and many other reasons.

Most people feel that they are wise in the choices that they are making. They feel as though they do know what is best for them. Yet, in all of the wisdom of this world, they miss out on God.

God’s wisdom is outside the way of man’s wisdom. In the short view of looking at Jesus and God, it does not always make sense. Looking at the surface of the gospel message, it is foolishness. God sent His one and only son, Jesus, to die on a cross for people who hate Him, did not serve God, and did not want anything to do with Him. Jesus is willing to forgive any wrongs done, with no permanent consequence. He is willing to give eternal life to someone without payment.

Why would a man allow himself to be killed in order to save a bunch of people who do not love or want him? Why would God allow this?

It was because of His love for all people. His wisdom is found in His immense, endless love for all people.

The message is a simple one, that will astound the wise. It becomes a stumbling block, because it is so simple, it looks foolish. Yet, this is the best way to save every person on this planet. And it pleases God to work in this manner, because His goal is to save every person on this earth.

Sit back and think about what God has done for you. Be amazed at the way He was able to provide forgiveness of every sin you have ever done or ever will do. And this was done before you even loved Him.

Do not allow His great wisdom and the foolishness of the message be a stumbling block to following Jesus. Be willing to believe in it and be saved. Also be willing to preach or tell others of what Jesus has done for them.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will tell others the gospel message; that you will trust in God’s great wisdom; and that many will come to know Jesus through your message.

2 Samuel 6:22 Excited Like At A Football Game

“I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.” 2 Samuel 6:22

As King David was having the ark of brought back into Jerusalem, after being gone for a long time, he was excited. He had started leaping and dancing. His wife, Michal, thought he was being foolish and hated him for it. David told her that he would become even more undignified and humiliated in order to celebrate God more. David was excited about God’s presence coming back into Jerusalem.

People get excited when they are watching a football game, or soccer game, depending on where they live in this world. Many times people will color their face with their team colors. When a person’s team scores a point, that person will start shouting very loudly and jumping around. When the team loses a point, they get mad and scowl. They are excited about the game and are willing to let everyone know.

When God shows up, most people do not even realize that He is there. Then the ones who do recognize His presence, do not get very excited. They stand straight and dignified and quietly rejoice God is there.

Think about how great the presence of God is. Here is God, the One who created the universe and everything that is in it! He is present. He took time to be with you. How much greater is that then a temporary football team scoring a touchdown?

How excited are you about God’s presence showing up in your life?

Do not be ashamed of getting excited when God shows up in your life. Let the whole world know what is going on. This shows the world that you truly do believe in God and are following Him. It lets the world know that you are one of His greatest fans.

Do not allow the world to hold you back in rejoicing that God is there.

How do you rejoice when in God’s presence?

I pray today that you will know when God is present in your life; that you will let the world know that God is there; that you will show the world your excitement for God’s presence; and that you will not be ashamed of God being in your life.
