Proverbs 22:5 Stay Far Away

Motorcycle jump

In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls, but those who would preserve their life stay far from them. Proverbs 22:5

Daredevils love to live life on the edge. They want to get as close to something dangerous as possible, without going over the edge. Doing something like this gives a person a adrenalin rush of great excitement.

Doing an action like this may produce excitement, but it may also cause one to slip up and get injured or killed. The dangers are real, yet, some will go forward anyways.

Most people claim that they do not like to push themselves into danger. They claim that they will stay away from the edge of the cliff, rather then step into the danger zone.

However, the reality is that the majority of people purposefully walk into the danger zone and get injured. They willingly walk off the cliff.

Solomon knows that the wicked are on a path that is full of snares and pitfalls, that is dangerous. Those who are wise and want to live will stay far away from that path.

The danger that the world purposefully walks into is sin and sinful acts. Every act that is sinful is done and is promoted to be done by others. This can be expected of those who do not follow God.

There are many in the church, those who are believers in Jesus, who will try to walk up as close to the edge of sin and try not to get burned or destroyed. They want to walk as close to the path of sin as possible.

Doing things like this is asking to be destroyed. It is endangering one’s life. When one is close to the edge it is easy to fall over the edge into sin.

Desiring to have real life will cause one to stay as far from the edge of sin as possible.

In your life there will be and are temptations for you to step into sin. How you live your life will determine how close to that sin you will get.

As a believer, you must flee from the temptation to sin. Get as far away from the edge of sin to lower the amount of temptation that will come upon you. If you walk close to edge, you will have a greater chance of falling into that sinful way of living.

Run the path God has for you and flee the path of the wicked.

I pray today that God will open your eyes to see the pitfalls of the world; that you will run after God; that you will walk the path God has for you; that God will help you flee from all sin; and that God will preserve your life for His righteousness.

Psalm 134:2 Show Your Excitement

People raising hands

Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord. Psalm 134:2

At football games people get excited when their team makes a touchdown score. They will jump up and shout loudly with excitement. As they are shouting and raising their hands in triumph, they do not care who sees or hears them. This is done for something that they did not directly have any part in. The team members usually don’t even know their name, unless it is a small high school team.

People will also raise their hands and shout with excitement at a concert with their favorite singer or band performing. They will do things that are a bit crazy and don’t care who sees them. The things done are things that should not be done in a workplace or in regular public, but people don’t care.

The author of this psalm is telling the people to lift up their hands and praise God in the sanctuary. This was not even in the normal public places, but in the place where praising God is expected.

In many churches one can hear some great worship music being played. While the music is playing people are sitting and singing, but that is all. The majority do not raise their hands in praise to God. There is a good number in the front of the sanctuary that may do it and a few scattered around the rest, but most won’t do it.

Many people will say that it is just not their style. Yet, some of these same people are the ones who jump and shout at their football team scoring.

Every believer has something greater than a football team scoring to shout about. God has done things of greater value than anything temporary on this earth. He has given forgiveness of sins and eternal life. That is something worth jumping and shouting about.

As you think about what God has done for you, how does it make you feel? This should be the greatest news of all time. It should make you want to jump and shout, praising God with all your might.

Each day you live on this earth, God is forgiving you of your sins. He is constantly working with you to make you more like Jesus. This is of eternal consequence and value, not just something temporary.

Give God praise for what He has done and is doing in your life. Do not be ashamed to raise your hands and voice in praise to the eternal, loving Almighty God.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know what God has done for you; that you will not be ashamed to praise God openly; and that you will give God praise everywhere you go.

Psalm 98:1 Singing A New Song

Happy boy

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. Psalm 98:1

There is found a new excitement in life when a person survives a near death experience. When a person is in an automobile accident and by all normal means should have died, but did not, he is excited and full of joy. He will burst into song about how glad he is that he did not die.

That is a joy that bubbles up from the inside and pours out. It is a joy that cannot be contained or kept quiet.

Most people, however, do not experience something like this. They just keep going through life day to day with nothing major happening. If anything, they are dreading each day and depressed. They do not see anything to sing about.

The author tells the people to sing a new song because of what God has done. God had worked out salvation for the people.

God had made a way to save a person from His sins by sending Jesus to die on the cross. With His death and resurrection, Jesus was able to destroy sin and provide life, eternal life. A person can be saved from sin and death.

This is something that a person can get excited about and sing for joy. It gives a person a new song in his life, one that will not end. It is no longer dependent upon things going well, because this is the best and is eternal. No one can take away the salvation that Jesus has provided.

Instead of going through life with dread, fear or depression, one can go with a song of joy. This is a new song in life, one that the world does not know or understand.

If you know Jesus as your Savior, think about what He has done for you. You were on a path to death. You had a death sentence upon your head, with no hope of missing it.

Now you have life for eternity. You have been forgiven of sins done wrong. You have been given a new lease on life, a reason to live. Sing for joy.

Burst out in song letting the world know what God has done for you. Let the world know the power God has for them.

This is the new song you can sing, regardless of what is happening in and around you in this world.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides you; that you will know the joy of walking with God; that God will put a new song in your heart; and that you will let the world know about what Jesus has done.

Psalm 66:1-2 Shouts Of Joy And Praise

Cheering crowd

Shout for joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious. Psalm 66:1-2

When something exciting has happened or is happening, people shout for joy. They are excited about what is going on and want everyone around to know it. In the process of the excitement, people will drop all inhibitions and go crazy with their excitement.

One area that people get excited about is when watching a sport. When their favorite team makes a winning score against a large, difficult team or in a challenging game, they shout for joy. People will jump up and down in excitement, screaming and hollering for joy at what had occurred.

Shouting for joy at a winning score in a game, is only temporary and has no real value in the larger scheme of life. Yet, the joy is there for a moment.

The writer of this psalm tells the people to shout for joy to God and to give Him praise.

God is always doing great things in a life of a believer. However, many believers are quiet about it. They might tell a few friends, but not very loudly and not enough for the world to hear.

Every day God is showing a believer new mercies. Every day God is showing His grace. Every day God is working in the life of a believer. These are just a few reasons to shout for joy.

The world needs to know what God is doing. They need to know that one is excited about God and what God is doing or has done in his life. This does not have to be quiet in a corner or only inside the church service.

Shouting for joy to God needs to be done in the open for all the world to hear.

Take a moment to think about all the great things God has done in your life. Think about what He has saved you from. These are some reasons to shout for joy.

Now go out and shout for joy. Let the world know what God has done and is doing in your life. This will encourage other believers in being His witness and it can be a great witness to those who do not know God, yet.

Be excited about God to the point that everyone will know it and get excited with you. Go out and shout some praise to God today!

I pray today that you will know what God has done for you; that you will know how great God is; that you will shout praises to God; that your joy in God will be evident to all around you; and that you will praise God at all times.

1 Chronicles 15:28 Excitement With God’s Presence

Excited girl on bridgeSo all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouts, with the sounding of rams’ horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps. 1 Chronicles 15:28

As a famous singer or band comes out on stage for a concert, the people go crazy. They shout and scream with excitement at the idea of the singer coming out. They are excited to see the person or band.

People love to be in the presence of someone famous. The closer they are to the celebrity, the more excitement there is. Many want to be as close as possible. Some will even fight to get closer, just so they can say they were near the person.

For a number of years, the ark of the covenant had been captured by the Philistines. Then as they began to bring it back, an accident occurred, causing them to leave it out of the city. Finally, David was able to go and bring it back to Jerusalem.

As they were bringing the ark back into the city, the people were shouting, dancing and making a lot of noise. They were excited for it to be back. The ark meant God’s presence was back with them. They had the hand of God’s favor on them again and there was no holding back the excitement.

Believers can have God’s presence with them every day. Yet, many do not show any joy in their lives at what they have. They let the cares and fears of this world to overcome them, stealing their joy.

God’s presence, means that the believer has the King of the universe in their presence. This should bring joy and excitement, a joy and excitement that cannot be contained. One should be willing to shout it out loud what is happening. Let the world know that God’s presence is there.

God’s presence is also with you, if you are trusting in Jesus. Open your eyes and heart to see and know His presence with you. Then realize Who is really with you.

With God’s presence in your life, you will have victory over this world. There is peace and a joy that the world cannot understand.

As you allow God’s presence in your life, let the excitement and joy begin to show. Let the world know that God is with you.  Be willing to shout and dance with joy at God’s presence. God is in the house today!

I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will know the joy of knowing God; that you will not be ashamed of Jesus; and that you will let the world know who Jesus is.

2 Samuel 6:22 Humiliated For God

Girl dancing in field

“I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.” 2 Samuel 6:22

Being humiliated is something that most people do not like to have happen to them. It creates embarrassment and humbles a person. The majority of people will do some things crazy and that will be slightly humiliating but will not cross a line, they will only go so far.

The reason most people will only go so far is that they know people are watching them. They do not want to stand out as very different. Most people want to fit in with what others are doing, instead of going against the flow.

For a number of years the ark of the covenant had not been in Bethlehem. David had his army go and get the ark back from the Philistines. As it was being brought into the city, David started dancing like crazy. He was jumping around with excitement, knowing the ark was back where it belonged.

His wife, Michal, saw him and was upset. She did not like how he acted, since David was the king of Israel. He was not acting properly for his position. David told her that he would act even more undignified and be humiliated in his own eyes.

David knew the value and importance of the ark of the covenant. He was willing to show his true emotions of extreme excitement at getting it back.

Although today, the ark is no longer used, there is God’s presence in a believer’s life. The believer can show extreme excitement for God when He shows up.

Many believers hold themselves in check. They want to be prim and proper around others. They do not have the extreme joy of knowing God in their lives. They do not want to stand out as different.

When God is present in your life, you will not care about what others are thinking. Your focus will be on God. You can become like a little child before God and show your love for Him in ways that are not always conventional.

This can be humiliating, because that is not the way most people do things or act. Yet, if it is done out of true love for God, it is great before God.

Do not worry about what others think, but allow your heart to follow after God with extreme excitement.

I pray today that you will know the joy of knowing Jesus; that you will know the excitement of having God in your life; that you will allow Jesus to be raised up as you are lowered; and that the world will see your love for God.

Psalm 138:1 Praise With Heart

I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; before the “gods” I will sing your praise. Psalm 138:1

Going through the motions is a common practice of most people. People go to work each day and do the job they are required to do, but most are not excited about going to work. It is just something that they must do. They need money to buy the needed food and pay for the housing, so they must work.

Children go to school each day, because they are forced to go. Most children would not step foot in school if they did not have to do so. Those that would go to school, mainly go to be with their friends, not to learn.

The common thing in these situations are that people are not putting their heart in what they are doing.

Sadly this can often happen in the church. On Sunday mornings during worship, many sing the songs of praise just because that is what they do on Sunday mornings. Even throughout the week a person may be playing music from a Christian radio station, but are just hearing the music, not really listening or worshipping God.

Putting your heart into something means that you are giving it all you have to do it. You are not leaving anything behind.

David said that he would praise God with all of his heart. He was giving God everything he had.

The heart is what pumps the blood through the body. It is what gives the body life.

Each time that you choose to give God some praise, it must be done with all of your heart. Give life to your praise. Do not do it as just another ritual that must be done. Anything that is done as a ritual is dead and lifeless.

Anyone in the world who sees a dead, lifeless praise will not want to be a part of it.

When God hears a dead, lifeless praise coming from a person, He knows it does not mean very much.

How is your praise to God today?

Is it coming from your heart?

Is it alive with excitement and joy?

Or is it just a ritual, that is lifeless and dead?

I pray today that you will be filled with the joy of the Lord; that you will sing praises to God from your heart; that you will put all of your heart into your praise to God; and that you will have a song of praise in your heart all day long.
