Psalm 66:1-2 Shouts Of Joy And Praise

Cheering crowd

Shout for joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious. Psalm 66:1-2

When something exciting has happened or is happening, people shout for joy. They are excited about what is going on and want everyone around to know it. In the process of the excitement, people will drop all inhibitions and go crazy with their excitement.

One area that people get excited about is when watching a sport. When their favorite team makes a winning score against a large, difficult team or in a challenging game, they shout for joy. People will jump up and down in excitement, screaming and hollering for joy at what had occurred.

Shouting for joy at a winning score in a game, is only temporary and has no real value in the larger scheme of life. Yet, the joy is there for a moment.

The writer of this psalm tells the people to shout for joy to God and to give Him praise.

God is always doing great things in a life of a believer. However, many believers are quiet about it. They might tell a few friends, but not very loudly and not enough for the world to hear.

Every day God is showing a believer new mercies. Every day God is showing His grace. Every day God is working in the life of a believer. These are just a few reasons to shout for joy.

The world needs to know what God is doing. They need to know that one is excited about God and what God is doing or has done in his life. This does not have to be quiet in a corner or only inside the church service.

Shouting for joy to God needs to be done in the open for all the world to hear.

Take a moment to think about all the great things God has done in your life. Think about what He has saved you from. These are some reasons to shout for joy.

Now go out and shout for joy. Let the world know what God has done and is doing in your life. This will encourage other believers in being His witness and it can be a great witness to those who do not know God, yet.

Be excited about God to the point that everyone will know it and get excited with you. Go out and shout some praise to God today!

I pray today that you will know what God has done for you; that you will know how great God is; that you will shout praises to God; that your joy in God will be evident to all around you; and that you will praise God at all times.

1 Chronicles 15:28 Excitement With God’s Presence

Excited girl on bridgeSo all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouts, with the sounding of rams’ horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps. 1 Chronicles 15:28

As a famous singer or band comes out on stage for a concert, the people go crazy. They shout and scream with excitement at the idea of the singer coming out. They are excited to see the person or band.

People love to be in the presence of someone famous. The closer they are to the celebrity, the more excitement there is. Many want to be as close as possible. Some will even fight to get closer, just so they can say they were near the person.

For a number of years, the ark of the covenant had been captured by the Philistines. Then as they began to bring it back, an accident occurred, causing them to leave it out of the city. Finally, David was able to go and bring it back to Jerusalem.

As they were bringing the ark back into the city, the people were shouting, dancing and making a lot of noise. They were excited for it to be back. The ark meant God’s presence was back with them. They had the hand of God’s favor on them again and there was no holding back the excitement.

Believers can have God’s presence with them every day. Yet, many do not show any joy in their lives at what they have. They let the cares and fears of this world to overcome them, stealing their joy.

God’s presence, means that the believer has the King of the universe in their presence. This should bring joy and excitement, a joy and excitement that cannot be contained. One should be willing to shout it out loud what is happening. Let the world know that God’s presence is there.

God’s presence is also with you, if you are trusting in Jesus. Open your eyes and heart to see and know His presence with you. Then realize Who is really with you.

With God’s presence in your life, you will have victory over this world. There is peace and a joy that the world cannot understand.

As you allow God’s presence in your life, let the excitement and joy begin to show. Let the world know that God is with you.  Be willing to shout and dance with joy at God’s presence. God is in the house today!

I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will know the joy of knowing God; that you will not be ashamed of Jesus; and that you will let the world know who Jesus is.

2 Samuel 6:22 Humiliated For God

Girl dancing in field

“I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.” 2 Samuel 6:22

Being humiliated is something that most people do not like to have happen to them. It creates embarrassment and humbles a person. The majority of people will do some things crazy and that will be slightly humiliating but will not cross a line, they will only go so far.

The reason most people will only go so far is that they know people are watching them. They do not want to stand out as very different. Most people want to fit in with what others are doing, instead of going against the flow.

For a number of years the ark of the covenant had not been in Bethlehem. David had his army go and get the ark back from the Philistines. As it was being brought into the city, David started dancing like crazy. He was jumping around with excitement, knowing the ark was back where it belonged.

His wife, Michal, saw him and was upset. She did not like how he acted, since David was the king of Israel. He was not acting properly for his position. David told her that he would act even more undignified and be humiliated in his own eyes.

David knew the value and importance of the ark of the covenant. He was willing to show his true emotions of extreme excitement at getting it back.

Although today, the ark is no longer used, there is God’s presence in a believer’s life. The believer can show extreme excitement for God when He shows up.

Many believers hold themselves in check. They want to be prim and proper around others. They do not have the extreme joy of knowing God in their lives. They do not want to stand out as different.

When God is present in your life, you will not care about what others are thinking. Your focus will be on God. You can become like a little child before God and show your love for Him in ways that are not always conventional.

This can be humiliating, because that is not the way most people do things or act. Yet, if it is done out of true love for God, it is great before God.

Do not worry about what others think, but allow your heart to follow after God with extreme excitement.

I pray today that you will know the joy of knowing Jesus; that you will know the excitement of having God in your life; that you will allow Jesus to be raised up as you are lowered; and that the world will see your love for God.

Psalm 138:1 Praise With Heart

I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; before the “gods” I will sing your praise. Psalm 138:1

Going through the motions is a common practice of most people. People go to work each day and do the job they are required to do, but most are not excited about going to work. It is just something that they must do. They need money to buy the needed food and pay for the housing, so they must work.

Children go to school each day, because they are forced to go. Most children would not step foot in school if they did not have to do so. Those that would go to school, mainly go to be with their friends, not to learn.

The common thing in these situations are that people are not putting their heart in what they are doing.

Sadly this can often happen in the church. On Sunday mornings during worship, many sing the songs of praise just because that is what they do on Sunday mornings. Even throughout the week a person may be playing music from a Christian radio station, but are just hearing the music, not really listening or worshipping God.

Putting your heart into something means that you are giving it all you have to do it. You are not leaving anything behind.

David said that he would praise God with all of his heart. He was giving God everything he had.

The heart is what pumps the blood through the body. It is what gives the body life.

Each time that you choose to give God some praise, it must be done with all of your heart. Give life to your praise. Do not do it as just another ritual that must be done. Anything that is done as a ritual is dead and lifeless.

Anyone in the world who sees a dead, lifeless praise will not want to be a part of it.

When God hears a dead, lifeless praise coming from a person, He knows it does not mean very much.

How is your praise to God today?

Is it coming from your heart?

Is it alive with excitement and joy?

Or is it just a ritual, that is lifeless and dead?

I pray today that you will be filled with the joy of the Lord; that you will sing praises to God from your heart; that you will put all of your heart into your praise to God; and that you will have a song of praise in your heart all day long.

Psalm 122:1 Excited To Go To Church

I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1

Going to church is something that people have many different feelings about. Most of the world does not even believe in God at all, so they won’t even think about going to church. Some will go there for a wedding or funeral, but see no other purpose in going.

Among the believers there is also a variety of feelings. There are many believers who refuse to go to a church because of some bad incident that had occurred in some church years before that hurt them. Some feel that the church building is just a man-made thing that God does not want and so they choose not to go and support it.

Then there are many who do go to church, but do it out of obligation. They do not go because they really want to. Along side of these, there are those who go to get something from the church rather than to worship God and give to others.

The psalmist was rejoicing when asked to go to the house of the Lord. He saw it as a great thing to do, a place to meet God with others.

Church is a place where believers can get together to build each other up as they worship God. The house of the Lord is to be a place of worship and praise. It needs to be a place of excitement and life, people alive and excited to be serving a great and loving God.

Whether you go to church on Sunday, Wednesday or any other day of the week, there should be excitement in going. Do not just go out of obligation or to look good. Be excited that you can get together with others who believe in God and worship Him and build each other up.

You were created to serve and worship. Going to church gives you the opportunity to do both with others. You are not to serve and worship God alone.

Do you rejoice when it is time to go to church?

Or do you moan and groan, and go because you have to do it?

I pray today that you will find joy in going to church; that you will find joy in worshiping with other believers; that you will find ways to build others up in Jesus in a church; and that time at church will be alive in Christ for you.

Psalm 85:6-7 Revive Us Again

Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, LORD, and grant us your salvation. Psalm 85:6-7

When a person passes out, that person is as though he is dead. He is unable to do anything at all, and appears to be dead. In order for him to do anything again, he must be revived, brought back to consciousness.

The same thing occurs when a person has a heart attack and his heart stops beating. In reality the person has died and needs to be revived in order to live again.

Being dead does not do any good for a person in this life. He cannot do, think or say anything to or for anyone in this world. His life is over.

Many people in this world are living in this very way. They are alive physically, but are very dead spiritually. While most have never been alive spiritually, there are many who have been.

Throughout the churches around the world, there are people who had come to Jesus for salvation. They were excited for a time and followed God with excitement.

Somewhere along the path of life, something made them give up the spiritual life. They died spiritually. There is no more excitement about going to church, or worshipping, or praying, or reading God’s Word, or telling others about Jesus. In reality they are dead and need to be revived.

Unlike many people in this world, God is right there ready to revive His people. He wants His people to be alive and living for Him. God’s love will never fail to love everyone, no matter if they spiritually died again or were never alive spiritually. God wants to give everyone His salvation.

Take a look at your own life. Are you alive or dead to God?

To determine which you are, think about what excites you. Are you rejoicing in God throughout your day?

Or is God just a quick passing thought on Sunday, because that is just what you do on Sunday?

You can be going through all the motions, but still be dead. Allow God to enter your life and make you alive. Find the joy of His salvation. Rejoice in what God is doing in your life.

Allow God to revive you.

I pray today that God will revive you; that you will rejoice in God’s salvation; that you will live for God each day; that you will know the love and salvation of God; and that you will be a witness to this world of Jesus.

1 Chronicles 15:28 Excitement For God’s Presence

So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouts, with the sounding of rams’ horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps. 1 Chronicles 15:28

The ark was  being brought back to the temple in Jerusalem for the first time in several years. As it was being brought in animals were being sacrificed to God in a gesture of thanksgiving. All the people were gathered around watching and were excited. Everyone was shouting and making music with the excitement of the return of the ark.

During football season, many people get very excited about the game being played. In the town where Texas A & M is located, when there is a home game with the A & M team playing many people show up for the game. Usually there over 100,000 people there to watch the game live. As the game is being played, the crowd of people get very excited about the game. When the A & M team scores a touch down, the crowd will roar with such loud excitement that it can be heard for at least a mile away.

Football is not the only thing that people get excited about. It can be any other sport, or some concert, or when they win a contest, or one of many other things.

What is not seen as often, is people getting excited about the presence of God showing up. Most people ignore even thinking about going to church. Others go because that is what they do on Sundays. And when they go, they sit in the back of the church and are very quiet, not really participating.

As a believer in God, you should be excited every time God shows up or you have a chance to meet with God. Being in God’s presence should be the highlight of your day. Think about it, you get to be with the One who created the entire universe. How exciting is that?

Do you welcome the presence of God in your life?

Or is the presence of God something that you just take for granted?

That excitement that you feel for a football game or any other sport, you should feel when you get into God’s presence. Get excited when God is doing something in your life, and He is always doing something if you open your eyes to see it.

Give God a shout of praise today for who He is, what He is doing and His presence in your life.

I pray today that you will know God’s presence; that you will find joy and excitement in God’s presence; that you will welcome God into your life; and that others will see that God is with you.
