Revelation 3:4 Are Your Clothes Dirty?

Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. Revelation 3:4

Everyone expects clothing that is put on to be clean and presentable. Once the clothing gets soiled, they are expected to get cleaned before using again.

In many businesses, the workers are expected to dress in business attire that is clean. They work in an environment that does not usually get a person’s clothing dirty. If their clothing gets soiled, they have to change their clothing or else they are in danger of losing their position.

John tells the church of Sardis that some have not soiled their clothing because of their deeds done. Those people will walk with God, dressed in white because they are worthy.

God expects people to do various types of work for His kingdom. All of these works focus on building up His kingdom. When a person is doing what God has called him to do, he will not get his clothing dirty with the things of the world.

This fallen world is full of sin and sinful activities. The world strives hard to get the believer to follow their ways and get his clothing dirty with sin.

In every situation, God has provided a way out of stepping into sin and getting soiled. Sadly many believers are like little children in that they love to get into the mud and cover themselves with it. They want to look just like the world, covered in sin. Instead of resisting temptation, they walk into it soiling their souls.

The believer who chooses to follow God, will run away from the mud of sin. He will keep himself clean by resisting temptation and clothing himself with the righteousness that Jesus provides. At that point, he will be worthy of God.

As a believer you must be willing to look at yourself and see if you have soiled your clothing with sin. When Jesus had forgiven you, He gave you a robe of pure white righteousness.

Do not allow yourself to walk in the ways of the world and get those clothes dirty with sin. Keep yourself pure and holy before God, so that you will be considered worthy before God.

Be alive and victorious in Jesus, remaining in clean clothing, not sin-soiled clothing.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the forgiveness of sin Jesus offers; that you will keep your soul clean of sinful activities; that you will follow God with all of your heart; and that your deeds will honor God.

Luke 12:35 Be Dressed And Ready

Dressed and ready

Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, Luke 12:35

Jesus is teaching the crowds about various topics. He had just finished telling them not to worry about anything. Now He tells them to be dressed ready for service and to keep their lamps burning. They are to be servants that the master can leave alone, knowing that they will do what they are supposed to do and not slack off on the job.

Everyday millions of people get up and get ready to go to work. Each one may start at different times of the day or night, but each do very similar things to get ready.

Each person must get up and get dressed for work. Depending upon what type of workplace a person works in, depends on what he wears. The person working in an office may have to wear a suit and tie, while the construction worker wears steel-toed boots and jeans.

Along with being dressed, each person must be willing to work. They have to remember what they need to do and how to do it. They need to do their best on the job, with a positive attitude to get the best possible pay raises.

Not everyone goes to work in this way. Some refuse to dress for the position. Others have a poor attitude or try to slack off on getting the work done correctly. They are not ready to work.

Believers have to also get dressed and be ready to be a worker for God with the correct attitude.

It is not the outward clothing that a believer must be dressed with. It is the characteristics of Jesus and His righteousness that a person must be clothed with. He must have compassion, love, truth, faithfulness, whole hearted, and more. Anything that makes him look like Jesus is clothing that is important.

He must also keep the lamp burning. Be filled with God’s Holy Spirit, ready to serve God and others. Walk and work in His power and might. Be excited about sharing the gospel message. Know that God is faithful.

These are things that you, as a believer, must have on to be ready for service each day. Look at your life in a mirror and see if you look like Jesus.

Are you dressed with the righteousness of Jesus?

Is your lamp light and shining bright in this world?

I pray today that you will be dressed like Jesus; that you will be ready to serve God and others; that you will do the work God has called you to do; and that you will be a witness to this world of Jesus.

Luke 12:35 Be Dressed And Ready To Work

“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning” Luke 12:35

In this passage Jesus is talking about servants that are up and ready to serve their master. The master may be away at the moment, but he could come in at any moment and the servants need to be ready to do what he wants immediately. In order for them to be ready, they must be awake, dressed, and have the lights on.

Every believer today must also be like those servants. They must be dressed and ready for service.

The first thing is being dressed. As a believer, you should not be dressed like the world is. Do not put on lies, theft, cheating, hypocrisy, or any other worldly sins. What you think and do are the clothing you put on.

You must put on the righteousness of Jesus. Allow the fruit of the Holy Spirit to fill your life. It will make you look very different. It will allow you to be ready to serve.

Next you must keep your lamps burning. The servants had physical lamps to light in order to see in the night. You are living in a dark world spiritually. The light of Jesus must be shining in order to see correctly.

Keep the excitement and joy of knowing Jesus shining brightly in your life. Lift up Jesus at every moment you can. Be the light on a hill so the world can see Jesus. God’s Word is a lamp to your feet. Stay in the Word of God daily.

Once you are dressed and your lamp is burning, be ready to do a service for God. This service may be directly helping other believers, or it may be helping a non-believer. It may be being a witness through action or words. Keep yourself open and ready to do any service when the opportunity opens up. Do not turn from that service.

Be the good servant you are meant to be today.

I pray today that God will help you be dressed for His work to do; that God will show you opportunities to do His work; that you will keep the lamp burning brightly in your life; that you will be willing to be God’s servant; and that God will draw others to Jesus through you.
