2 Corinthians 11:3 Have You Been Led Astray?

But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3

Deception is something that can be seen nearly every place a person looks or goes. Movies deceive a person into thinking that what they are watching actually happened. Ads are made to make a person think that some item is the best possible to have.

In the process of being deceived, many people are led to do things that go against their basic beliefs.

Paul was concerned that the people might get led astray by deception of Satan, that they would leave their devotion to Christ down the wrong path.

The primary focus of Satan and the world is to get a believer to take his eyes off of Christ, to slow down on his devotion to God. This is often done in a way that uses something that is good or at least sounds good.

Focus upon family or friends will often take one’s focus off of Christ and what God wants him to do. Sometimes a strong focus on ministry can lead a person to do things that God was not leading him in.

Often the deception leads people into accepting ‘little’ sins as acceptable and not really sinful. Letting things occur that slowly pull one’s attention away from God, or things that do not honor God.

Many in the church have fallen into deep sins as acceptable, because of the deception of the world. Things are worded in such a way that sin appears to be good and loving, when it is nothing but death in the end.

In order to keep from being deceived, one needs to keep his focus and devotion upon Christ at all times, staying in God’s word and praying continually.

As a believer, the world is out to get you and stop you from focusing on God. Little things will be put in your way to deceive you and pull you away from Christ. All of these things start with the mind.

Each and everyday take time throughout the day to keep your focus upon God. Spend time in His word and think about it throughout the day. Allow God’s Holy Spirit to lead and guide you in all truth.

The more you focus upon God, the less likely it will be that you will be deceived.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be led by the Holy Spirit; that your focus will always be upon God and His word; that you will not be deceived by the enemy; and that your devotion to God will remain pure and strong.

2 Corinthians 11:3 Are You Being Deceived?

But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3

Magicians work hard on deceiving the audience into thinking something had happened that did not. Their goal is to distract those watching to not really see what is occurring, making it appear as though something else grand had happened.

Those watching a magician are usually very amazed and know that they are being fooled, but love it anyway. However, in life many are being deceived in the same way, but do not even realize it.

Paul was concerned that some in the church were being deceived, just as Eve was, and led astray from their devotion to Christ.

Deception can occur very easily when a person does not really know the truth. There have been many believers who begin looking at the world to understand how it works and thinks.

Suddenly, after a time, they change their ways of thinking, being deceived by the world, and begin to think and act as the world does, while claiming to be a follower of Jesus. The world was able to deceive them into thinking that some sinful activity or thought was acceptable to God and would not be judged as sinful.

Many in the church and churches themselves, have been deceived by the enemy. They have turned their eyes away from God, while claiming to follow Him. They accept and promote things as good that God calls evil.

The only way for believers to keep from being deceived like this, is for them to stay focused upon the truth. Every believer must flee all sin, not even step close to it. They must know God’s word thoroughly and stay in close communication with God. Knowing the truth will set one free from the deception of sin.

You may or may not know if you are being deceived. Take a look at your life and see if there are things in your life that could be or are sinful. Flee those things and get focused back on God.

Immerse yourself in God’s word and prayer. Focus on knowing the truth and the deception will reveal itself. Allow God’s Holy Spirit to lead you so that you do not get led astray by the deception of this world.

Are you being deceived by this world?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will be led by the Holy Spirit into all truth; that God will open your eyes to the deception of the enemy; that you will focus your life on God’s word; and that you will not be deceived into sinful thoughts or actions.

Song Of Solomon 1:4 Who Do You Want To Be With?

Time of devotion

Take me away with you–let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers. We rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. How right they are to adore you! Song Of Solomon 1:4

Most people have someone who they love to be around. They desire to be with that person all the time.

This is especially true of newly married couples. They want to be together. They hate being apart from each other and love to spend all their time together.

Young children often want to spend time with one of their parents, the dad or mom. They love their parent and cannot stand being away from the parent.

The reason that people love to spend time with someone is that they love that person.

Solomon shows a scene of a woman who is eager to be brought away by the king. She is in a hurry to have it happen. Her friends also realize the value of this relationship.

While this may be meant to be just a relationship between a man and woman, it can also represent the relationship between a person and God. God is always seen as the ultimate king. Jesus is called the King.

The believer in Jesus should have a desire to be with God in the most intimate of places, not just in the public open spaces. The intimate place shows the relationship at its highest level.

Often believers are content to be with God on Sunday in church, but ignore Him the rest of the week. Their heart is really not in the relationship, but just on getting out of hell.

When one realizes how much Jesus (The King) has done for him, he will also desire to be with God immediately. He will not want to wait for a later time, but wants to spend time getting to know God more and more. The relationship with God will take priority over any other relationship or action.

When you take a look at your life, who do you want to be around? Are you seeking friends on this earth and to have a good time, even though it is only temporary?

Or is your heart’s desire to be with God?

Seek to get to know God more and more in the intimate places. These are the private places of your life, in the quiet times of prayer and bible study. Get to know His great love for you.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s love for you; that you will seek to spend more time with God; and that God will be your one true love above all others.

Ezra 7:10 Devoted To God’s Word

Study the bible

For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD,  and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel. Ezra 7:10

Devotion to something is being committed to it. It is being willing to focus on whatever it is one is devoted to, regardless of what else is going on around. It is giving all of one’s time and attention to something.

People are devoted to many different things. Some common things people are devoted to are jobs, sports teams, and hobbies. Often these and other devotions are held so tightly that they can cause the expense of neglect in other areas of life.

Some things should hold this level of devotion, but are often not. Marriage devotion is often ignored. Time with God is often ignored. Many things that should be long-term or eternal are ignored in devotion.

Ezra was a priest during the time of Israel’s exile in Babylon. He had devoted himself to studying and teaching God’s laws to the people of Israel. Since he had devoted himself to God’s word, God’s hand of favor was upon him.

Although today there is grace the overrides the law of the Old Testament, God’s word is still to be used. Believers can devote themselves to studying His word and teaching others about it. This teaching is discipling others, which is what God commanded every believer to do–go and make disciples in all the world.

Studying God’s word does not mean one needs a bible college degree or cannot do other work, it is just taking time daily to get into His word and learn what it is says. It is more than just reading a verse or two each day and running on with the rest of the day. It is taking time to understand what it says and how to apply it  to life, then take that word to others.

You, like most people, may have some things that you are devoted to in your life. Your first devotion should be to God and His word. It is His word that lets you know what God wants and how to do it. Take time daily to focus on His word and apply it to your life. Then take time to share what you have learned with others.

Being devoted to His word is making God’s word a priority each day in your life.

Is God’s word a priority in your life?

I pray today that God will place a hunger for His word in your life; that God’s Holy Spirit will guide you in understanding His word; that you will apply God’s word to your life; and that you will share God’s word with everyone you meet.

2 Chronicles 17:6 Devoted Heart

Cross heart on bible

His heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah. 2 Chronicles 17:6

Being devoted to something or someone is being committed to whatever is being devoted to no matter what happens. It is being sold out in mind, body and soul.

People find some things that they get devoted to for a time. When younger, people often devote themselves to following some person. This can be an actor, actress, singer, band, sports person, musician or someone else. It is common to see people devote themselves as boyfriend/girlfriend with a friend while in school or college.

The majority of these devotions are short termed. They only last for a few years, at best, then the devotion changes to someone else. The world sees their devotion as good until something comes along that is better. Along with the short-term devotion, these things are all temporary.

Jehoshaphat had become king of Judah and was devoted to God. His heart was devoted to the ways of God and doing what was right in God’s eyes, removing idols from the land. He led the people back to God, to love, serve and worship God, alone.

Since the time of Jehoshaphat, nothing has changed. There is only one that remains permanent for all eternity–God. Jesus made it possible for people to have a relationship with God, through His death upon the cross.

Jesus was devoted to the Father and to each person to bring salvation. Every believer should have his first devotion focused upon God. God gave life and made the relationship possible, so He, alone, deserves all the devotion of one’s heart and life. Believers need to focus everything that they say and do upon God and His ways, not the ways of this world.

You have a choice to make also. Who or what will you be devoted to? You cannot be devoted to more than one thing. Either you are devoted and serving God or you are serving self and this world.

Take a moment and find out where your heart is at. What makes your heart beat? What gives you life?

The things of this world will only give an illusion of life and in the end will bring death.

God gave and will continue to bring life for eternity. Set your whole heart to be fully devoted to God and His kingdom. That relationship will last forever.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that your heart will be devoted to God; that you will live your life in service to God and His kingdom; and that God will do great things in and through you.
