But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3
Deception is something that can be seen nearly every place a person looks or goes. Movies deceive a person into thinking that what they are watching actually happened. Ads are made to make a person think that some item is the best possible to have.
In the process of being deceived, many people are led to do things that go against their basic beliefs.
Paul was concerned that the people might get led astray by deception of Satan, that they would leave their devotion to Christ down the wrong path.
The primary focus of Satan and the world is to get a believer to take his eyes off of Christ, to slow down on his devotion to God. This is often done in a way that uses something that is good or at least sounds good.
Focus upon family or friends will often take one’s focus off of Christ and what God wants him to do. Sometimes a strong focus on ministry can lead a person to do things that God was not leading him in.
Often the deception leads people into accepting ‘little’ sins as acceptable and not really sinful. Letting things occur that slowly pull one’s attention away from God, or things that do not honor God.
Many in the church have fallen into deep sins as acceptable, because of the deception of the world. Things are worded in such a way that sin appears to be good and loving, when it is nothing but death in the end.
In order to keep from being deceived, one needs to keep his focus and devotion upon Christ at all times, staying in God’s word and praying continually.
As a believer, the world is out to get you and stop you from focusing on God. Little things will be put in your way to deceive you and pull you away from Christ. All of these things start with the mind.
Each and everyday take time throughout the day to keep your focus upon God. Spend time in His word and think about it throughout the day. Allow God’s Holy Spirit to lead and guide you in all truth.
The more you focus upon God, the less likely it will be that you will be deceived.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be led by the Holy Spirit; that your focus will always be upon God and His word; that you will not be deceived by the enemy; and that your devotion to God will remain pure and strong.
