So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 2 Corinthians 5:9
Goals are something that nearly everyone talks about and many strive to make, while many others totally ignore. Those who are able to set a good goal and focus on it, usually are able to attain it with much work and perseverance.
Since it often takes a lot of work and focus to accomplish most goals, most people don’t really set them with full accomplishment in mind. They quit before they even have begun.
After talking about being away from the body, dead, it means to be at home with the Lord, Paul says that he makes it the goal to please God, whether in the body or away from it, alive or dead.
The goals the world is most often known to focus on and aim for are personal health, wealth and happiness. Some will set goals to help others in some social way. In all of these goals, the focus is on temporary pleasure and happiness of self or of others. Everything in this world will eventually fade away and be destroyed.
God is the only one who is completely eternal and owns everything. It is He who made this earth and every person in it. Since He is the head person, everything should be about pleasing Him.
Those who are true believers in Jesus realize that all they have and all they are is because of what Jesus had already did for them. In light of this revelation, their goal is to please Him in every way possible.
Pleasing God means one continually turns away from sin, immediately repents of any sins, strives to live as Christ lived, and strives to bring others to the Lord and help them live as Christ lived. God does not desire anything less or anything more.
Looking at your own personal life, what do you see as your greatest goal in this life? Do not allow it to be on temporary things that will perish and fade away, but on things that will last for eternity.
Only two things will last for eternity: your soul and the souls of everyone else around you. Focus on pleasing God with your life and with the lives of others. Be holy like God is holy.
Make it your goal to live as Jesus lived and you will please God.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that your goal in life will be to please God; that you will live as Jesus lived; that you will point others towards Jesus; and that God will help you turn from the ways of this world.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:11
In the eyes of the world there is no solid line of right and wrong. Everything depends upon the situation as to whether it is right or wrong, which can change on a regular basis.
Life is about pleasure of self for most people around the world. It is about how they can be happy, regardless of what the action is. If it makes a person happy and successful, then it is acceptable. In this way, there is no such thing as sin in the eyes of the world.
Paul says that believers are to count themselves as dead to sin, but alive to God.
When a person has died, there is absolutely nothing that can affect them any longer on this earth. No one can make them work, or stop working. No one can entice them to do something or not do something. They are dead with no feelings or abilities to do anything anymore.
Prior to becoming a believer, a person is dead to God, but alive to self and this world. His life is governed by the standards of this world–that anything that makes him happy is good.
Once a person becomes a believer and begins to follow Jesus, he is to die with Christ to sin. He is allow himself to be dead to sin so that sin has no more power over him. All desires to sin are done away with, because he is no longer alive, but dead.
Instead of hiding behind faults and past actions, one must be dead to sin. God can and is willing to change a person, to make him a new creation who does not purposefully walk in sin. This only happens when one is alive to God in Christ Jesus.
As a believer you no longer have to sin. Every sin is a choice that you make by your own free will that God has given you. Instead of falling to temptation and sinning, live for God.
Allow yourself to become dead to sin and alive to God. When you are living for God all the time, you will no longer have the time to sin, nor the desire to sin.
Focus all of your life and being upon living for God now that you are dead to sin.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will choose to be dead to sin; that you will live for God; that you will turn away from all sin towards God; and that you will know the life God has for you.
Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed as they had been. Revelation 6:11
Problems occur in the lives of every person on the earth. When these problems occur because of the acts of someone else, people want to see vengeance brought upon the other person. They want to see the other person punished.
One thing people ask is how long it will take to punish the offender. Punishment is expected to be expedient.
In a vision, John sees an angel open seven seals. After the fifth seal was opened, he saw souls of those who had died because of their belief, and they wanted to know when they would be avenged. They were given a white robe and told to wait until a certain number of then had been killed.
It is common for people who have become believers to believe that life will become easier as a believer. It is expected that all problems will go away.
However this is not true. Jesus promised troubles and that people would be martyred for their belief in Him.
The world hates Jesus and God and any one who follows Jesus with a true heart. Satan will do whatever he can to stop every believer, including murder.
God is patiently watching what is going on and keeping record of what evil people are doing to believers. Those who do evil against His people are only storing up a record for His wrath to be poured out upon.
At the right time, Jesus will return and get the vengeance against those who harmed His people. Until that time occurs, believers will be killed. Every believer needs to be willing to stand strong and true to God, despite the troubles that they may and will face.
God sees every trouble that you are going through. He knows exactly who is doing you harm.
Do not worry or fret over what others are doing or have done to you, God is watching. At the right time He will call each of those people into account and get His vengeance. His vengeance will be greater than anything you or anyone on this earth can provide.
Just as God is patient, be patient and wait just a little longer. In light of eternity, life on this planet is very, very short.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will trust God’s plan for your life; that you will know God will take vengeance for you; that you will have God’s patience in waiting for His next move; and that God will give you strength to continue to follow Him through any troubles that come your way.
