He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken. Mark 12:27
There are many people who are fascinated with the dead or things after death. All their time is spent on studying what life may be like after death. Others see life as only partying and having a good time and never look to what the future after death may look like. Going through life in these ways are people who are missing out on really living their life to the fullest.
Mark records Jesus responding to the question about marriage in the resurrection by saying that God is not the God of the dead, but of the living and that they were mistaken in their views.
The world looks at life only in this life. It is all a matter of what one can do right now in the moment to have pleasure. There is no solid standard of what is right or wrong. Sin does not exist in their minds. As a result, because of sin, they are dead even while they are living.
In the same way there are many in the church who claim to believe in Jesus yet are still dead. Going through life, they do not live for Christ. They strive to stop doing all sin and go to church to worship all the time, but they are not living for God. They walk around somber, with no joy, as though dead.
Being a witness for Jesus is something that is far from their mind and heart. It is all about self. God is supposed to be the God of the living, not the dead. Believers need to be alive for God, going out and being His witness, showing the joy of the Lord to the world.
Each day you go out you have a choice to make as to whether you will really live that day or not. Partying and having a good time may appear to be really living, but if it is not doing God’s will, it is dead.
God wants you to be alive and have an abundant life as promised by Jesus. Being alive for God means you will be going about doing His will, being His witness and worshipping Him with your whole life.
Ask yourself if you are really alive or dead for God.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal what it means to be alive for Him; that you will live for God; and that you will do His will each day.
