James 1:4 Hang In There To Be Made Complete

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:4

When people start out to learn to do something new, they want to be a professional at it immediately. Very few people like the idea of having to work at it, being patient while learning and growing.

With this attitude, many people will strive to cut corners in the learning and will end up short of their goal or they end up giving up because of the difficulties involved. This can be seen in every age of life and every area of life.

James encourages the believers to continue to persevere so that they may become complete and having all that they need.

Growing as a believer in Jesus is not something that is instant nor is it always easy. Going through difficult times, sets a person up to learn and grow more mature. Just as a child that is growing physically, must be patient and will go through many growing pains.

Just as in other areas of life, believers will often try to cut corners in learning to grow in Jesus to become a mature believer. Instead of persevering through prayer and study of the bible, they gloss over both, cutting many corners.

Most want to be instant large believers doing great works for God. Living as one who does great works for God, comes with slow growth and struggles. God uses difficult situations to help build the believer up.

Instead of getting frustrated, cutting corners or giving up, the believer must be willing to persevere in his training. The more God is allowed to train the believer, the more he will be able to do for God and the greater his trust in God in every way.

He will become a mature and complete believer in the end.

God will allow difficult situations to occur in your life, in order to train you to trust in Him and do what He commands. Rather than fighting God and trying to cut corners, do what God says and grow despite what is occurring.

Persevere in running hard after God and becoming like Jesus more and more. As you hang in there and don’t give up, God will make you complete and provide everything that you need for life and to be more like Jesus.

Never ever give up! Hang in there and you will make it.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will persevere in the situations God brings into your life; that you will do all God commands you to do; that you will grow in maturity in Jesus; and that God will provide for all that you need so that you will never lack anything.

Habakkuk 2:9 Building A House

“Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, setting his nest on high to escape the clutches of ruin!” Habakkuk 2:9

Habakkuk had noticed all the people who refused to follow God were appearing to be prosperous and making it. He could not understand how the pagans could be wealthy, while the believers suffered, so he questions God about what He is seeing. God answers him. God points out that there will be trouble for the person who builds his house by evil ways.

A house is where a person lives, eats, and sleeps in. It is a representation of a part of their life. For some people it is a major portion of their life, while with others it is only a small part of their life. It depends on how much they work or travel.

Lives and homes are built all the time with money that is worked for. Most people will state that they have legally earned the money that they have to build their life the way that they want to. The real challenge is what a person means by work.

Some people when they do go to work, they cut corners all the time at work, not fully working, and still get a paycheck. Others do work hard all the time, but are doing things that are illegal or sinful to get their money. These are people building their house on something that is unjust gain.

Even though they appear to be successful, God is watching them and their time will come. Their house is not built on the foundation of Jesus Christ. It is built upon things of this world and it will come crashing down in the end.

If you are believer, you must work at things that will honor God. Gaining money to build your life will do no good if it is gained by measures that does not honor God in any way or goes against God’s commands. If you sell something that promotes sin, you are building your house by unjust gain. If you do not give all of yourself to your work, when you are working, then you are building your house by unjust gain.

Take a look at your life and how you are building your house. What is the foundation? What are the materials you are using? Does it honor God? Or is it being done in the ways of this world?

I pray today that Jesus will be the foundation of your life; that you will build your life in God’s ways; that the work you do will show honor to God; and that you will be a witness of God wherever you work.

Colossians 3:23-24 Do Everything For God

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24

In these verses Paul is speaking directly and specifically to slaves. Although today most people are not slaves in the same sense of physical purchase and ownership, most everyone is a slave to someone. There is someone that they have to answer to and obey, whether it is a parent, boss, or some other authority, there is usually someone who is in control.

Paul is telling the people to work with all their heart. This is working with the best of your ability, not cutting corners, and not complaining.

Many people in the workplace like to cut corners on getting things done. They like to show up five minutes late or leave five minutes early because they know that the time clock works in fifteen minute increments. Others will stop working and talk for twenty minutes on a fifteen minute break. Some will work slower than they are actually able to work. All of these and many other ways are cheating the boss.

God wants you to work for that boss or obey that authority as though it was Jesus standing there telling you what to do. Every good thing that you do will be rewarded by God someday. The struggles and hardships that you endure working on this earth will get you an inheritance in heaven some day.

This work is not to gain you salvation or favor with God. It is showing your love for God and for others. It is doing the right thing. Do it whether someone sees you or not, because God is watching you and sees all that you are doing or not doing. Do it out of sincerity of your heart and obedience to God.

How do you obey those over you today? Do you cheat, lie, or cut corners? Or do you do the right thing every time, all the time?

I pray today that God will give you the strength to do the work that needs to be done; that you will do everything you do for Jesus; that you will know that God will reward you some day; and that God will draw many to Jesus through you.
