Psalm 19:8 Rejoicing In God’s Commands

The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. Psalm 19:8

In every nation and city around the world there are various laws and regulations that people are expected to follow. Some of these prevent people from doing things, while other laws require people to do certain things. While most people are willing to accept most of these laws, very few actually find joy in them or rejoice over the laws. Often, they are seen as an infringement upon one’s personal freedom and choices.

David says that the statutes or laws of God are right and bring rejoicing to the heart and that the commands of God are pure bringing light to the eyes.

Although many laws step on the freedom of a person and appear to hold one back, many of those laws can also bring about life. Often laws are put into place in order to protect someone from others or from one’s own self. The laws of the world are often faulty and fail to do what is desired and cause more harm than good.

With man’s laws being faulty, many people do not find joy in the laws of God.

Unlike the laws of the world, the laws of God are right and pure. Every command that God gives is out of a pure of heart of pure love for each and every person. His laws and commands bring life to not only the whole, but also to each and every individual believer.

Eyes of the believer will be enlightened to understand how to live the best life possible until stepping into perfection in heaven someday. One can rejoice that God’s laws are put in place to give life, not take it or prevent life.

No matter where you live there are going to be man laws that you must obey. Some of these you may like, while others you do not like. Do not allow the faulty laws of the world shade your view of God’s laws and commands for you.

Recognize that God, out of perfect love, wants only the best for you and only gives you laws and commands that will help you attain that best. Allow God’s commands to enlighten your eyes and give you reason to rejoice, knowing that they are there only to help you live an abundant and full life that will go into eternity.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the laws and commands God has for you; that you will find joy in God’s commands; and that you will know the life God has in store for you.

Nehemiah 10:29 Entering An Agreement To Obey

these joined with their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse and an oath to walk in God’s Law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord, and His ordinances and His statutes: Nehemiah 10:29

Contracts are written up, agreed to and signed every day in every nation around the world. In the contracts are parts saying what will occur if everything is followed and what will occur if certain things are not followed by both parties. This occurs on individual, corporate and national levels.

All the people of Israel joined together to enter a curse and an oath to obey God’s Law and all His commandments.

Agreements with consequences for obedience and disobedience is common among people everywhere. They are made to hold people responsible to reward those who do right and to punish those who do not do the right thing.

Although believers are no longer under the Old Testament Law of Moses, they are still under the commands of God. Under the Law of Moses, it was do or die. Under the grace of Jesus, if one obeys God’s commands, there are blessings, if one chooses to not obey, His hand of blessing is removed. Jesus paid the penalty for sin, not obeying God’s commands.

Everyday God still gives commands to those who have chosen to believe in and follow Jesus with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength. These may be simple commands of just stopping to pray for someone, to detailed and complex ones of going overseas to do missions work. They may also be just stopping doing some activity or to start doing some activity.

All are commands of God and need to be obeyed just as much as the Israelites had to obey the Law of Moses.

God is willing to speak into your life what He wants you to do or not do. The moment you chose to believe in Jesus, you entered an agreement to obey His commands, no matter how little or big they are.

Make the choice to hear what God is telling you to do and then obey it without hesitation or delay. God knows what is best for your life. He has a plan for your life, but you must be willing to walk in it in full obedience, not turning to the left or the right.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the commands God has given you; that you will obey every command of God; that you will see the blessings of obeying God; and that you will see God’s favor in obedience.

1 Kings 13:21 Have You Kept God’s Word?

He cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, “This is what the Lord says: You have defied the word of the Lord and have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you.” 1 Kings 13:21

People are given commands or directions to follow every day. Many will follow the commands very well, but many will also reject those directions and do it their own way.

At the job, doing it one’s own way may get them fired from the job. Everyone is expected to follow the directions and commands of the boss or leader.

A man of God was sent to Jeroboam to give a message and then go straight home without stopping to eat or drink. A prophet deceived him, and he ate with the prophet. The prophet told him that he had defied God’s word and not obeyed His commands.

Workers are often told to do something that does not make sense to them. They cannot see the bigger picture that the boss can see and understand to cause him to give a command that does not make sense.

In the same way, God will often give a simple command that does not make sense, often defying logic. It did not make sense why the man of God could not stop and eat on his trip, yet when he did it cost him his life.

Just as in the workplace, many believers choose to not completely obey all the commands of God. They feel that they know what is best or that maybe they heard God wrong or that God made a mistake with them and choose to do things their own way.

True believers will obey God’s commands no matter what the cost or how little sense it makes. Their trust is in God, not themselves.

As you choose to walk with God, there will come times when God will give you a command that appears to defy all logic. When this occurs, you must remember that God’s ways and thoughts are above yours. He sees the bigger picture and knows what is best for you.

Do not allow yourself to go the way of the world and do things your own way, rejecting the command of God to you. Step out in obedience and trust the ways of God as being the best for you and obey His commands.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the commands God gives you to; that you will obey God with your whole life; and that you will not defy any of the commands of God.

Numbers 24:13 Not Being Bought Off

Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the Lord–and I must say only what the Lord says? Numbers 24:13

In this world it is commonly heard that money talks, meaning it can get people to do things that they would not normally do. It is very common for people to do things that go against their conscience or beliefs if they are given enough money in their greed to be wealthy at any cost.

After blessing the Israelites several times, Balaam tells the messengers of Balak that even if he was given a lot of money he could not say or do anything against the command of the Lord.

People are very quick to sell out their mind, body, soul, family, friends and more to get money. This includes many people in the church. The commands of God are pushed aside or ignored in order to gain wealth.

At the moment a person chooses to believe in Jesus, he needs to give his entire life over to God. God is to be the complete master of his life. This is to include everything the person says or does no matter what is offered.

Nothing this world can offer can equal eternal life. In the end all the world can give is temporary pleasure that ends in eternal death.

Obedience to God takes priority over everything else in a person’s life. If one does not obey God, he is not serving God nor does he trust in God. Disobedience is rejecting God.

One must never allow himself to be bought out by the world to do anything good or bad that goes against the commands or will of God.

Temptations will arise to try and get you to go against God’s desire or your life. Money, position, friendship, material things and more will be offered to gain your following and get you to sin against God by disobeying His commands.

Choose today that God is the only one you will serve with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength. Put His ways and commands above everything and everyone else.

Know that no matter what the world can offer, God offers something much better–eternal life. How willing are you to obey God’s commands?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the commands God is giving you; that God will give you the strength to obey His commands; that God will strengthen you to refuse to disobey His commands; and that you will know the reward God has for you as you obey Him.

Jeremiah 26:2 Speak All The Words

This is what the LORD says: Stand in the courtyard of the LORD’s house and speak to all the people of the towns of Judah who come to worship in the house of the LORD. Tell them everything I command you; do not omit a word. Jeremiah 26:2

God was going to have Jeremiah stand before the people and speak some of His words. The words that were to be spoken were not the most kind type of words. It would be words that were commands to change their ways or become a curse and be destroyed. They would be words that the people would become very angry about and attempt to kill Jeremiah. God did not want Jeremiah to miss a single word as he spoke to the people, despite how the people would react.

It is easy to talk about how much God loves a person and all the things that are good about God. For many people it is much harder to talk about God’s commands to change and the results of not giving up sin. It is more difficult because people may not accept the words or get angry about them.

In today’s society, often one has to be careful not to politically/socially offend someone else with their words. No Christian believer should ever attempt to offend someone on purpose. However, every Christian has a duty to speak God’s word in truth and love.

God has spoken a lot of words and told His people to speak all of them. Some of those words are easy to hear because they are just about God’s love. Other words are harder to hear, because they are about change and giving up sinful ways. Not everyone will accept the words, but they still need to be spoken.

When you go out today in this world, be willing to speak every word God has given you. Be led by His Holy Spirit in what to say to those you come in contact with.

Some people may accept those words and change, while others may reject them and get angry. Regardless of the outcome, you need to be faithful to God’s Word and commands.

Are you speaking God’s word today?

Are you being a witness of what God wants to do and is doing?

Do not be afraid to speak His words today.

I pray today that you will know what God wants to be said; that you will not fear speaking God’s word to everyone you meet; that you will speak with the love and compassion for people that God has; and that you will be God’s witness to this world of His love and judgment.
