Leviticus 13:52 Defiling, Destructive Mold

Moldy orange

He must burn the fabric, the woven or knitted material of wool or linen, or any leather article that has been spoiled; because the defiling mold is persistent, the article must be burned. Leviticus 13:52

For most things and most types of mold, mold is something that no one wants to have. Mold can get into many different things in different ways. Most often mold is destructive. Once it is in something, that item has to be destroyed.

Some molds, such as the black mold, is not only destructive of what it is on, but also contaminates the air, causing serious sickness. Mold is alive, once it is in or on something it does not stop reproducing and spreading, destroying.

Cleanliness has to be maintained strictly in order to keep mold from infesting some item. Old food must be tossed out, places in a house/building must be cleaned regularly, and spilled water must be dried up. There is an active work to be done to keep mold from occurring and even more work to be done in order to get rid of it.

Mold is just like sin. Once sin gets into a person’s life, it begins to destroy and kill. It will continue to spread throughout the person’s life, until he is dead. It will not only spread in that one person’s life, but will also spread to others, causing death in others.

Also, just like mold, sin takes an active, persistent effort in order to get rid of it and keep it out. The blood of Jesus, which He shed upon the cross, is the only thing strong enough to wipe away the sin in a person’s life.

The passions of sin must be destroyed. The person must become dead to sin, just as the item must be destroyed when contaminated with mold.

You, along with everyone else, has been contaminated with the mold of sin in your life. Seeking the forgiveness of Jesus will get the sin removed. Once that is done, however, there is work to be done to keep the sin from re-infesting your life and soul.

You must take an active effort to keep your eyes on God and keep sin out of your life. Do not allow the ‘little’ sins in life to get a hold of you. Just as mold, it will continue to spread until it has killed you.

How much mold are you allowing in your life?

I pray today that you will know the forgiveness of Jesus; that you will allow Jesus to remove the mold (sin) in your life; that you will turn away from all sin and follow God; and that your life will be productive, holy and pure for God.

Jeremiah 36:23-24 No Fear Or Remorse

Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns of the scroll, the king cut them off with a scribe’s knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire. The king and all his attendants who heard all these words showed no fear, nor did they tear their clothes. Jeremiah 36:23-24

Jehoiakim was the king of Judah and had been leading the people into sin against God. Through Jeremiah, God had been telling the people that destruction was coming because of their actions. Some of the people heard the words and believed them. When it was reported to the king what was being said, he requested the scroll be brought and read to him.

As the scroll was read, he would tear out section by section and burn it in the fire. When the entire scroll was read it was destroyed and there was no fear of God in what was said, nor did they turn and repent of their sins.

Very few people today would purposely burn the Bible if they were given one, even though even fewer would take time to read any of it. There are many people who go to church each week and hear the words of God read from the Bible. Instead of burning the Bible, they ignore it. Most people ignore most of what the Bible says.

The world likes to pick out the verses that God loves them, all believers are to forgive, and that there will be peace and happiness some day. When it comes to the verses talking about turning away from sin and coming judgment, most people ignore them.

Ignoring God’s word is no different than the king burning the scroll. It is actually better for one to burn the bible than to ignore it. Burning it, shows one has no fear of it or remorse for sins. Ignoring it gives the appearance of accepting it, while the heart is far from God.

Think about when you hear or read parts of the Bible. What are your thoughts on what you hear or read? Do you strive to apply those words to your life?

Do you respect and honor God’s word or do you ignore it and go on with your life?

Do not burn God’s word today, they are words of life, abundant, eternal life.

I pray today that you will find life in God’s word; that you will desire to know God’s word; that you will apply His word to your life; and that you will not ignore what God has to say to you.

Cleansing Fire

IMG_1085

Living out in the country on six acres of land has a lot of brush, branches and debris. Over time it can clutter the land and create an eyesore to be seen. Along with that, it also creates a spot for unwanted critters, such as snakes and opossums, to hide in.

Along with just regular branches that fall, and the brush that dies and we move into the burn pile, we also had tree full size oak trees that had fallen that needed to be burned up. The trees had fallen on our house about a month ago. You can read about that in my post: God’s Protection And Favor.

In the past we have attempted to sell or even give away the oak wood for fireplaces, if someone wanted to come and cut it up and haul it. We never had anyone take us up on it. Probably because we live in central Texas where it is always hot year round (at least hot to a northerner from Wisconsin). So we learned to just move it into a burn pile and burn it.

I had to do it soon before the burn bans start taking effect in this area. Usually about mid-July is when the burn bans start, unless we are in an exceptionally dry year or very wet year. This year has been neither very wet or dry.

The burn that you see in the picture above is just one of two large piles of wood and brush. It also includes some old chairs that were broken beyond repair and not saleable. I cleared some area around both piles of wood to keep the fire from getting out of control. The brush and weeds were cut back to keep it from spreading where it was not desired. I also kept a water hose on and ready near the fire. Every so often I would spray water around the base of the fire to keep the grass from catching on fire and spreading.

As I was burning this pile I was thinking about how burning in that spot is great for the ground around it. For one it removes all of the weeds. It also puts a lot of nutrients back into the ground.

In past years I have seen where a large area of forest had been burned to the ground. Years later, usually ten or more, one will see the ground where the fire had been growing lush and green with a lot of vegetation. I have known a few people, much older than I am, that used to burn their yards every other year for that same reason. It would clean out the unwanted weeds and put much needed nutrients into the ground. The grass always grew much more green than anyone else in the area.

While thinking about these things, God pointed to me that there are fires in our lives at times to do the very same thing. God looks at our lives and sees some unwanted weeds growing in our personal lives. These are weeds of deception, lies, impure thoughts, cheating, jealousy, pride, anger, and the list goes on. They do not belong in the life of a believer.

Situations come up in our lives that are painful and hurt a lot. They may feel like fire burning around you. Although there may be a million different reasons why God is allowing that fire in your life, one of them may be to clean out garbage in your life.

When there is a large fire that is burning, people look to someone else for help and strength to stop it. A fire in your life may be the thing needed to push you back towards God. It may help you focus back on what is really important in your life and get rid of the rest. Or at least not put so much time in the rest.

As you focus back on God and get back into His word and times of prayer, it will give you the needed nutrients to really live a full life after the fire dies out. It will strengthen you for greater works for God.

Going through a fire will also give you a testimony of God’s work in your life and His provision through the tough times. It can light a fire of testimony to be a witness to those in the world.

Just as with the fire that I burned on my property was controlled to keep it from becoming a wild fire, the fires in your life are controlled by God. Satan cannot give you anything more than God allows. There is nothing that God will allow in your life that, with His help and strength, you cannot overcome.

During the times that you are going through the fire, ask God to reveal to you how you can grow closer to Him and how you can use that fire as a witness to others. Do not allow the fire to force you to get out of control and remove God from the picture.

Never forget that God works all things for the good of those who love Him. That fire in your life can be a good thing. It can remove unwanted stuff and get your focus back on what is really important–God.

1 Peter 4:12 No Surprises

“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.” 1 Peter 4:12

When everything in life is going just like a person wants, he is happy and content. When things start to go bad and everything is falling apart, he then stands back surprised and wondering why everything is falling apart. People begin to question themselves, God and others when things go bad. Often they think that they are the only ones going through that struggle.

No one really likes it when things are not going the way they “should”, at least according to their plan of the way it should go. The world can think that way, since they do not have any thing greater to trust in.

Every believer must think again about being surprised at the struggles happening. Peter tells you that you are not alone in this. You are not the only one going through a fiery ordeal.

A fiery ordeal is something that is hot and painful. Being burned by fire is extremely painful. No one every wants this. Yet, it is common. God uses the fiery ordeals to test you.

When things are going good, it is easy to say that you trust in God and believe in Jesus. It is a much bigger challenge to still say you trust in God and believe in Jesus when everything is falling apart and you feel like you are being burned alive.

Jesus gave a promise that every believer would suffer just like He had to suffer. This suffering is to see where you really stand with God. It is to make you more like Jesus. It is to draw you closer to God. It is to help you be a witness of God’s great love and care for you.

As you go through a challenge in this life, rejoice. Rejoice knowing that God does really love you. Rejoice that God is right there with you. Know that God will bring you through it. And don’t be surprised at what is happening.

I pray today that God will reveal His plans for you in the challenges of your life; that you will keep your eyes focused on Jesus; that you will not be surprised at challenges God brings your way; and that God will make you more like Jesus everyday.

Matthew 3:11 Getting Burned

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Matthew 3:11

John is telling the people that he is baptizing with water for repentance, but there is one great coming with a greater cleansing. Baptism is an outward sign of repentance. It is a public declaration that you have turned from your sins and are now following God.

Notice that baptism is only the outward sign. Water will wash the body on the outside but cannot do anything for the inside.

John was not afraid to state that someone greater and more powerful than he, was coming soon. This one coming would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. This was Jesus.

With being baptized with the Holy Spirit, you are being baptized from the inside out. The Holy Spirit goes into your heart and mind and cleans out the sins located there. The Holy Spirit will guide you in how to live your life correctly for God.

Along with the Holy Spirit there is a fire. Throughout the scriptures, fire is used to burn out the garbage. In the end, hell and all sin will be cast into a burning lake of fire.

It is no fun to get burned. If you touch a hot pan on the stove and it burns you slightly, it is very painful and no fun. The purpose of that pain, though, is to teach you not to touch that hot pan again.

God’s Holy Spirit will put a fire in your heart and soul to burn out the sin in your life. He is trying to teach you not to touch that hot sin again.

Allow Jesus to remove that sin from your life by His blood. His blood will not burn or hurt you in any way. Then, as the Holy Spirit comes into you, there will be no more burning needed to be done. You will be clean before God.

I pray today that you will allow Jesus to cleanse you from all sin; that you will repent of all your sins and turn from them; that you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit of God; that God’s Holy Spirit to guide you and keep you clean before God; and that you will produce fruit that is valuable to God.
