Psalm 95:6 Bowing Down

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker, Psalm 95:6

Bowing down to something or someone is not uncommon around the world. In many places around the world, bowing down is a symbol of respect and honor given to another person. There are also many who bow down to idols to worship them.

It is common to see people bow down and nearly worship other people. Watch how the fans of singers and actors perform when in presence of someone famous. They see someone famous who they love, and idolize that person, thinking he is the best thing on the earth.

While many will bow in worship and adoration of others, there are very few that will bow down in submission. People do not want to have someone over them. They want to be their own boss, in control of their own destiny in life.

The author tells the people to bow down in worship. They are to kneel before God as He is their maker.

This is not only bowing down in worship, but also bowing down in submission. It is allowing God to be the controller of all life. It is giving Him honor for being the ultimate ruler of all things.

As many will bow in worship to God, giving Him honor, there are few who will bow down in submission, giving Him authority. People want to be in control of their own lives. On Sunday they will bow in submission, but on Monday, as they go back to work, they pick that authority back up for themselves.

A believer must realize that God should be the ultimate authority in every area of his life. God is the one who created everything and deserves that position and authority.

The believer’s life must characterize one of worship and submission to God, constantly bowing down before Him.

Take a moment to examine your life. Who or what are you bowing down to? If you are following the ways of this world, it will be things or other people. Bowing down to temporary things will only lead to death.

Bowing down to God will bring life. He knows what is best for your life. Give Him the honor that He is worthy of. Give Him full authority over your whole life.

Let us bow down in worship and submission to God today.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will bow down to worship Him each day; that you will bow down in submission to God’s authority; and that you will trust God with your life.

Daniel 3:17-18 Even If God Does Not Help

If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. Daniel 3:17-18

King Nebuchadnezzar had set up a large statue of gold of himself and wanted every person in the nation to bow down to it. Three young men, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, known more as Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego, had refused to bow down to the statue. The king gave them several chances to change their minds, warning them that they would be thrown into a hot, fiery furnace if they did not do it. The men stated that God would deliver them, but even if He did not, they still would not bow down to that statue. They would obey and follow God, no matter what happened.

It is common to hear of a person who had believed in God for a time, but chose to walk away from God because God did not deliver them from something. One of the more common reasons is that the person prayed for either healing for a loved one and God did not heal the person. The person prayed for died in without healing. The one praying gives up on God and walks away.

Acting like that does not give God absolute authority or control. God is the one in control and knows what is best for each and every person.

In the Old Testament, God made the rule not to bow down to idols. The young men chose to do that regardless of what God does. They did not set any stipulations on obeying God.

You have to set it in your heart that you will follow God, no matter what the cost is or what He will or will not do. You have to trust that He is doing everything that is the best for you.

Make the choice to not bow down to any idols in this world. Worship God and God alone. In reality, the worst that can happen is death, which then will allow you to step into heaven for eternity.

Who are you going to bow down and worship today?

I pray today that God will reveal His power to you; that God will strengthen you to not bow to sin; that you will turn from all sin to God; and that you will not fear this world or anyone in it.

Deuteronomy 7:25 Destroy All Idols

The images of their gods you are to burn in the fire. Do not covet the silver and gold on them, and do not take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 7:25

As the Israelites were to go into the land of Canaan, they were to get rid of all of the inhabitants and their idols. They were not to even desire the silver and gold on the idols, but to destroy the idols completely. This was to be done because the idols would become a snare for them and God detested the idols.

As you go through life, God will bring you into new areas of life. These new areas are still a part of the world and it’s system. The world has and believes in things that are detestable to God. These are the new idols of the world.

Parts of the world still physically bow down to actual idols, but in many other places this is not done directly. The bowing down has changed to giving all their time, money and effort to have something. People “bow” down to cars, jobs, houses, vacations, positions, titles, and many other things in this life.

As a believer you must reject those things. The high paying position that someone has may be an idol and if God does not want you to have it, you must not even covet the money that comes from it, much less the position itself. This can be with a position or many other things. Any thing can become a snare in your life, pulling  you away from God.

Strive to place all your time, money and effort into seeking God and building His kingdom on this earth. Do not allow yourself to become ensnared by the idols of this world. Keep your focus on Jesus and His kingdom.

Is there any idol you need to reject or get rid of today?

Where is your focus and desire today?

I pray today that God will reveal to you any idols in your life; that God will give you strength to get rid of all idols; that you will reject any idols around you; that you will bow down God alone; and that you will strive to build His kingdom.
