The Heart Of Communication

My 16 year old son, Caleb, wrote this blog post. He actually came to me and told me it first. I was so amazed by it, that I asked him to write it down for others to enjoy.

Talking Image

In all of life we use communication whether it is in the work place, school, church, home, or in other countries. Think about it, how many times do you read a sign on the road? That’s a form of communication.

There are three main tools of communication we use every day, which are the following:
1.Verbal
2.Non-verbal
3.Written.
Verbal means talking face to face, or the phone, public speaking, and more.

Nonverbal can mean watching a video on YouTube, a movie, music, the list goes on.

Movie film

Then there is written that’s books, articles, exactly what you are reading now.

Books

There is also a sub form of communication namely “Other“.
What is other? Well it means stuff like paintings, abstract art, drawings, and blueprints.
In order to perform any of these different types of communication you have to know what the heart of communication is.

At the heart of communication you need two key parts which are the following:
1.Giving
2.Receiving.

Here is an example: I give you the option to read this, but you have to receive it.
Now God has communicated with man since the beginning of time. In Genesis 1:27 you can find the first time God communicates with man, He blesses them. In Exodus you can find the account of Moses. God came to Moses through a burning bush told him to set his people free, but it would never have happened if Moses had not received the commission.

In 1 Kings in the bible you can find a prophet named Elijah, he prayed to God to send fire down from heaven. Yet again it would never have happened if God did not receive the prayer, and give the fire.

As you can see God has communicated since the beginning. It even gets better though. When a woman becomes pregnant, (hopefully in wedlock), God gave the child to her in the womb He knit the child together, created the child’s innermost being.

mother and child

Now when the woman gives birth if she is a follower of Jesus Christ, or attends a church, she would have the baby dedicated, or given back to God. This is when God receives the baby. If you fast forward a few years thechild one day has to choose whether to follow Jesus, or follow the world. God will knock on the heart of the child, and if the child decides to let God into his life. Than the child receives the gift of salvation God is presenting, and in doing so the child gave his life to Him.

But that’s not it. God receives your life with joy. But He also sends this child on a mission. God gives a command to the child to go to all the ends of the Earth and spread the gospel. This is the hard part for a lot of people to live out.

Why would you want to go out to the people in the mall and talk to people about Jesus, or at work, school, even in your own house? Yes you will be humiliated, mocked, ridiculed, there’s absolutely no doubt about it.

Take a look at what Jesus did for you. He, the Son of God himself, became a man for you, born in a manger which is a feeding trough. He grew up as a carpenter’s child, he taught people to love your neighbor as yourself. Love your enemies and to pray for those who persecute you. He was taken captive in the night, he was accused of blasphemy. He was spat upon, mocked, ridiculed, and beaten. He was scourged, than carried a cross about three miles. He had a crown of thorns, and was nailed to the cross where he died. All of this was for you. But three days later he came back to life.

Jesus resurrection

Thank God he did, or else we would all have no chance to go to heaven.
I hope this helped someone out there. God has and will always be there.

Grace Rules

Title: Grace Rules
Author:
Steve McVey
Publisher: Harvest House Publishers
Date: 1998
Pages: 203

The author looks at how many Christians are living for God, but are not always living in joy and excitement with God. People are always condemning themselves for the sins they have committed and feel that they will never measure up to God’s standard of living. They are being robbed of the abundant life that Jesus said every believer will have.

He points out that many Christians are living under the laws of many things to do or not to do. They feel that in order to please God, they must follow all the laws, both God’s and man-made, perfectly. They also impose those laws on others. This type of living is a legalistic life, living by rules, rather than by grace. If the Israelites in the Old Testament were unable to fully obey the laws of God, no one today can begin to do it either.

Looking at the New Testament, the author shows that Jesus fulfilled the law’s requirements which now allows God to pour out grace on His followers. No person is good enough to deserve the life God is willing to give through Jesus. No person will ever become good enough to earn their way into heaven.

This is where grace comes in. God is willing to give you the abundant life in and through Jesus. Jesus is to live in. You are to be controlled by Jesus and the Holy Spirit, rather than by your own thoughts and actions or this world.

It is pointed out that under the law, you have to obey God. Under grace, you will want to obey God. Previously it was a mandatory requirement. Now it is a choice desire.

The Bible calls every believer in Jesus a holy child of God, a royal priesthood. Do you believe that you are a holy child of God and a royal priesthood in God’s family?

This book will help you see the fullness of the grace God is willing to pour out on you. It will help you see how you can have your heart changed to be able to overcome sinful acts in your life.

If you are struggling with living the “full” life Jesus had promised; or if you feel like there should be more to your life with Jesus; or if you feel like you just don’t measure up to God’s standards, then this book is a great book for you to read.

This book is written in easy to read format. There are questions at the end of each chapter for you to ask yourself in response to what was written. Many scripture verses are used throughout the book. I highly recommend every believer to read this book.

Live, Love, Lead

Title: Live Love Lead
Author: Brian Houston
Publisher:Faith Words
Date: 2015
Pages: 258

The author, Brian Houston, is the founder and senior pastor of Hillsong Church in Australia. It is among the fastest growing churches in the world and has satellite churches around the world. It was through the worship leaders of this church that many of the current worship songs in churches was produced.

Brian tells of many stories of the struggles he, his family, and the church had to go through that brought them to where they are today. People will often look at someone like him and think that he has it made and that it was easy for him to build such a large church. When they try to accomplish something and run into roadblocks, they get discouraged and quit thinking that God will never use them as he did Brian.

Some of the challenges that he had to go through would have ran many people off and made others stop believing in God. He knew that he had a vision from God as to what he was supposed to do and he stayed focused on accomplishing that vision.

In each chapter he does not just talk about himself, but also how you can learn from what he went through and how to use it in your own life. It does not matter if your a leader in the church or just a person who attends church and works a job somewhere, God can use you if you let Him do it.

The ultimate focus is on living as Jesus lived, loving as Jesus loved, and leading as Jesus led. He uses many scriptures to back up what he is saying and has experienced.

In the end he points out that God has great things in store for you to do. Are you willing to run with God and do what He has for you to do?

I encourage you to read this and see what God challenges you to do in your own life. Even though he is the senior pastor, it is for every believer regardless your position in the church or in life. It is also for the young person as well as the elder one.

Hearts of Fire

“Hearts of Fire”
Author: The Voice of Martyrs
Date: 2015

This is an excellent book looking at the lives of eight women who stood for Jesus and went through some severe persecution. The women talked about were each from different countries, such as China, Russian, and Iran. The earliest one occurred in 1945, while the latest one was in the early 2000’s that ended in around 2009. The authors had to change the names of some of the women because they were still alive and preaching the gospel message in their nation.

Each of these women believed in Jesus in countries that hated all Christians. Many had family members that fought against them. They had to give up everything to follow Jesus. Often they were thrown into prisons with absolutely no sanitary conditions or help. While in the prison they would use the opportunity to reach out to the women there with the gospel message of salvation.

One of the women had an opportunity to get to America and be free to follow Jesus. After having a vision from God she chose to go back to Viet Nam to reach the lost there. She did this despite the persecution she would face there.

In the USA Christians do not see real persecution that can cost them their lives. It is often difficult to believe that such persecution, such as what is seen in the book of Acts is actually occurring in the world today, but it is real. This book covers the lives of these women to give you a view of that type of persecution. I encourage you to read this book if you get the chance. It will challenge you to speak the gospel message to everyone you meet.
