1 Thessalonians 1:4 God Chose You

For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, 1 Thessalonians 1:4

Every person likes to be wanted or chosen. It gives them a sense of value and worth. It encourages and strengthens a person to continue moving forward.

Deep hurts have scared people for life, when as a child, they were not chosen on a regular basis when playing games or sports. It gives the person a sense that they have no value and that no one wants them at all. This often creates problems that continue into adulthood.

Paul tells the Thessalonian church that he knows that they are loved by God and that He had chosen them.

Some, with a selfish pride, feel as if they are the one who had chosen God. It is placed completely upon what they said or did, leaving God out of the picture.

While a person must choose to believe in Jesus, God has to choose the person first. In His perfect and eternal love, God ALWAYS chooses everyone first.

God does not want anyone to perish, but all to be saved. His love begins before any person can possibly begin to love Him. It is started when the person still hates Him and is against Him. This love started before the creation of the world and continues to this day for each and every person that walks upon this earth.

However not everyone recognizes God’s great love for them. Some do not see that God has already chosen them to forgive them and save them. These people chose to live in selfish pride and sin, rejecting the one who died for them to save them.

Those who have chosen to believe in Jesus, have chosen to recognize that God loves them and has already chosen them. This is why they put aside selfishness and sin to follow Jesus.

Whether you believe in Jesus or not, God has already chosen you. He loves you with an eternal and perfect love that cannot end, regardless of how you live your life.

Take a moment to think about how much love God has for you, in that He, Creator of the universe, has chosen you while you still hated Him. As you allow that thought to sink in, choose today to believe in and follow Jesus, because of His great love for you in choosing you. Know that you are of great value to God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know that God has chosen you; that you will know God’s great love for you; that you will choose to believe in and follow Jesus; and that you will know your value in Christ Jesus.

Revelation 2:14 Claiming God While Living In Sin

Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. Revelation 2:14

The world does not live by any concrete, eternal rules. They live in a way that is do what feels good in the moment, living only for the moment and for pleasure.

All the rules and standards that the world implements changes on a regular basis. Rules change according to their feelings at the moment.

An angel spoke to the church in Pergamum saying that they remained faithful in claiming Jesus, but they also held onto the false teachings of Balaam–pleasing themselves.

It is easy for a person to begin to believe in Jesus and claim that. All it takes is saying a few things. Across America, there are millions who claim to believe in Jesus. However, at the same time, many of those same people are holding to the teachings of Balaam or the world.

Balaam had taught to eat food sacrificed to idols because they were sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality. Today people are taught to listen to, watch or participate in things that are offered as sacrifices to idols. They are also taught how to live sexually immoral lives as though it is normal and acceptable to God.

Inside the church there are many who have chosen to follow the ways of the world, while claiming to believe in Jesus. They are willing to follow the same idols that the world follows and live the same sexually immoral lives that the world lives.

Although God appears to allow this for now, there will come a day of severe judgement. Every believer is to live separate from the world, fleeing all sin.

As you claim to believe in and follow Jesus, you must examine yourself to see if you are also following the teachings of Balaam, the teachings of this world.

How willing are you to eat of the food sacrificed to idols because they were sacrificed to idols? How willing are you to live a sexually immoral life?

Turn away from all sin and pursue God and God alone. Do not allow yourself to be enticed to live a sinful life, but live a holy life unto God, otherwise you will have to face the judgement of God’s wrath.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know how God wants you to live; that God will strengthen you to turn away from sin; that God will open your eyes to the sin the world promotes; and that you will live a true and holy life unto God.

Romans 10:3 Submit To God’s Righteousness

Tree On a hill

Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. Romans 10:3

Paul talked about the Israelites were very zealous for God. They wanted to be God’s people, so they sought out how to be righteous before God on their own. They would not submit to the righteousness of God–that is Jesus.

All over the world there are many people who claim to believe in God. They are quick to say that they have a belief in God. Many will say that they believe that they will get into heaven.

When asked why they will get into heaven, many will say because they are a good person, never killed anyone and believe in God. They believe that their own works will get them into heaven.

Many in the church believe in the same way, they believe that they are righteous because of what they do. They go to church, read the bible, and are a good person.

Both are looking at salvation by their own personal works. Yet, getting into heaven is impossible for anyone apart from Jesus. He is the one who is righteous and makes a person righteous.

Others will believe in Jesus, but will add that a person must do certain things to get into heaven. If they do not read five chapters of the bible everyday, memorize a bunch of scripture, go to church every Sunday, then they are not saved. In the same way they are trying to make themselves righteous.

Every person needs the righteousness of Jesus in his life. Only Jesus is perfectly righteous and He extends that righteousness to every one who believes in Him and submits to Him.

As a believer, you must be willing to submit to God’s righteousness in Jesus and then strive to live like He did. You do the works to prove your submission to Jesus, but not to earn your salvation or righteousness. Love God, by doing what He wants and fleeing all sin, not by earning your salvation.

Trust that Jesus is making you righteous before God. He has removed your sins and makes you clean. Do not try to establish your own righteousness, you will fall short in the end.

Everything you do should be out of belief in Jesus and what He has done for you. Submit today and know His salvation and righteousness.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that you will know the righteousness Jesus provides; that you will not seek to earn your salvation; and that you will know the forgiveness Jesus gives you.
