Micah 2:6 Refusing To Listen

Holding hand to stop

“Do not prophecy,” their prophets say. “Do not prophecy about these things; disgrace will not overtake us.” Micah 2:6

No one likes to hear bad news, when it is about themselves. They only want to hear good news, positive things.

People who go to the doctor and receive some bad news about their health, often go to another doctor to get a second opinion. Or the ignore the news, not believing it is the truth. They do not want to believe that the bad news is the truth.

Micah was bringing bad news to the people of Israel. Their prophets were telling him to stop prophesying that way. They did not believe it would happen as they were being told.

God has not changed over the years since Micah’s time. He still is against sin and sinful practices. He still warns people to turn away from sin or else there will be disaster and punishment.

All over America and most other nations, sin is promoted as good. Anyone who speaks out against sinful practices is listed as a hater or as one who wants to take away someone else’s freedom to do and live as he desires. As this is done believers are told to keep quiet and keep their belief to themselves.

Every believer is placed upon this earth to be a witness of who Jesus is. One of the things Jesus is, is holy and pure. The believer is also supposed to be like Jesus and tell others to be like Him–holy and pure.  This requires a turning away from sin.

Those who choose not to turn away from sin will eventually face a final judgement. Punishment or correction for living in sin may occur in this life. God does this to warn people of what is to come, giving them a chance to repent.

When God is speaking to you about some warning of judgement to come, do not ignore it. Take it to heart and change as He is calling you to change. Do not allow your heart to be hardened like the world and ignore the prophesies.

If you choose to purposely live in sin, then disgrace will overtake you and you will be destroyed. However, you have the opportunity to turn from sin and follow God. Do not live for evil, but live for God and His holiness and righteousness. Listen to the prophets for God wants to give you good, not punishment.

I pray today you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will live as Jesus lived; that you will listen to what God says through His prophets; that you will not give God a reason to bring on disaster; and that you will speak the words of God to this world.

Psalm 112:7 No Fear

Man sitting on cliff edge

They will have no fear of bad news: their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Psalm 112:7

Hearing bad news about someone or something else is what sells in the news broadcasting business. People want to hear about the negative things going on around the world. Only on rare occasions does good news make the headline news.

In the personal lives of most, people do not want to hear any bad news. They do not want to hear from their doctor that he has bad news for them. Very few people want to get a phone call containing bad news.

In both types of bad news people often get fearful. They are afraid of what might happen or will happen. Hearing the news makes people fear going places or other people. Hearing bad news personally makes one fear that things will change.

The psalmist points out that those who are righteous have no fear of any bad news. The simple reason is that they trust in God.

While living in this life, there will come days when every person will hear some bad news. There will be trouble and challenges in this life. However, the believer knows that God is in control and loves him.

If God is in control and loves a person, there is no reason to be afraid. Fear does not need to come about because one knows that God will not allow anything to happen that is not within His will.

Love will cast out all fear, strengthening a person. Love trusts that God will either remove the what is bad, protect the person or help the person walk through the bad situation.

The believer knows that he is secure in Jesus Christ, that there is nothing that the world can do to stop the salvation He provides. With that there is no fear.

As you go through your days, you will hear or see bad news. Some of it will be impersonal, while other news will be very personal. When you hear the bad news, focus your eyes and thoughts on God, rather than the bad news.

Know what Jesus has done for you and what He will continue to do for you. Know the tremendous love God has for you. Then allow God to remove all fear that may arise in your heart.

Trust that God knows what He is doing and what is best for you. Stand strong and true in Christ Jesus with no fear.

I pray today that you will know God’s love for you; that God will fill you with His presence; that God will remove all fear in your life; and that you will know God is in control of everything.

Isaiah 52:7 Proclaim The Good News

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7

People love to hear good news. A couple gets excited when they find out they are expecting their first child. A student loves to hear that he passed a difficult test. Fans get excited to hear their favorite team is going to the Superbowl. Voters love to hear that the person they voted for won the election. Soldiers and people love to hear that there is a peace agreement between two warring nations.

Good news is always great to hear, especially in a time when there is a lot of bad news going on all around. Turn on any news channel and one will probably hear ten bad things occurring for every one good thing.

Even in one’s own personal life, one can find a lot of negative things to talk about, if so desired. So hearing good news is what people desire.

Believers have some good news to tell, in fact, it is the best news of all time. The one thing that no person can overcome is death. It is a fact that every person will die. So telling some news that death can be overcome is the greatest news story of all time.

Death is overcome because God does reign. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, there was a peace agreement made between man and God. Salvation was purchased by the blood of Jesus for every person who believes.

As a believer you are the carrier of this great news. You are the messenger of the greatest news of all time. When you are walking through a store and see someone who looks like they could use some good news, tell him that God does reign and loves him and has salvation for him today. Be willing to proclaim that great news out loud to everyone you meet.

In a day where there is so much negative news happening, why won’t you go and tell someone the greatest news of all time? It may be the news someone is waiting to hear and needs to hear. In their eyes you will be beautiful with that great news.

I pray today that you will know the salvation God provides; that you will know that God reigns; that you will be bold in telling others about Jesus; and that you will proclaim to this world that God does reign.

Psalm 112:6-7 No Fear Of Bad News

Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD. Psalm 112:6-7

Bad news seems to be everywhere. When a person watches the news, there is very little that is positive in the news. People feed off of bad news.

When bad news comes out, people often get scared and worried. They worry about what is happening or what will happen next. Fear rises up in the people.

Many Christians fall prey to this type of thinking. Someone in the government makes a new ruling or gets elected into a position, and suddenly everyone is worried and fear what is going to happen next. They fear that persecution is about to happen to believers. They fear that their freedom to worship God will be removed. They fear that their freedom to talk about God will be removed.

God is not a god of fear, but of love. Perfect love casts out all fear. God is not going to do anything that will harm a believer in any way. He is there to build a person up in the best way possible.

What does this have to do with hearing bad news? Everything.

Hearing bad news is not something any person can control. You may not hear any bad news right now, but wait a few minutes and you most likely will. Turn on the news and it will be there. Read the posts on Facebook and you will read some bad news. Someone will post something about something negative going on.

Yet, as a believer, you do not have to be afraid of the bad news. Whether that bad news is a part of your life, or it is about someone else on the other side of the world, you do not have to fear it.

The reason you do not have to fear any bad news, is that you know God is in control. He is working to make you more like Jesus everyday. He will use whatever it takes to make that happen. God will use bad things to make you better if it is the best way possible.

When you hear bad news, do not worry about it. Instead trust God. He is in control and loves you. God to sleep with no fear or worries. Everything will be alright.

I pray today that God will remove fear from your heart; that you will know God’s love; that you will know God is in control; and that you will not fear any bad news.
