Can a man be profitable to God, though he who is wise may be profitable to himself? Job 22:2
People like to have value or know that they are of value to someone else. They want to know that they are important and needed by someone else. Some people thrive on being needed and so work towards that end.
When a person does not feel that he is of any benefit to someone, then he will stop what he is doing or at least, not do as well. The work that he is doing will become of no real value when it does not benefit anyone at all. There is no importance to what is being done.
Eliphaz speaks up and asks a very good question that deals with value and being a benefit. He wants to know if a person can be of any benefit to God.
This question has been asked by many people, many times over the years. Some feel as if they are very important and that God needs them. While others feel as they are no value at all and that God does not need, nor want them because they are too horrible or bad.
Some believers have walked away from God, because of some sin, and then they feel as though they are of no value to God at all.
When thinking about it, God does not need man at all. He is the one who created everything from nothing. If He created everything from nothing, what is man? In reality, nothing.
Yet, God wants every person. The only benefit God receives in having man with Him, is that there is fellowship. God loves to have fellowship with others. The only others is mankind.
No person is wise enough to help God. No man is so important that God needs Him. It is not that God needs a person, but that He wants him. This is true love.
God loves you so much that He wants you, no matter what it costs to get you. You can bring a relationship to Him. While it is true you cannot benefit God in any real way, you bring the benefit of having a relationship to Him.
Take time to build your relationship with God. Get to know Him, and He already knows you. Be His hands, feet, and voice to the rest of this world. In these ways you do become a benefit to God. You are of high value to Him, His Son died for you.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will have a personal relationship with God; that you will know how much God values you; and that you will see how you can be a benefit to God.
